I always told non New Yorkers there's inexpensive decent apartments in NYC. I was born & live in NYC, everybody isn't rich or could afford to pay $4,000-$6,000 a month rent. There's a lot of low income people who need apartments they can afford. There's quite a bit of nice 1& 2 bedroom apartments under $1,600 a month in decent neighborhoods here in NYC. He's just finally showing them. Don't believe everything you hear about NYC, believe what you know. Thanks Cash & Have A Great Week ❤!!!

    • @EastSide-qc5oy
      @EastSide-qc5oy Před rokem +15

Yes, but those apartments are very difficult to find unless you know a lot of people and are constantly asking around, or have “ins” with owners and property managers. Folks such as yourself have an advantage because born and raised tend to have those connections much more than transplants. Also people have to keep in mind that rent stabilized units sometimes or perhaps often get the short end of the stick when it comes to repairs and upgrades. Landlords focus their resources and attention on profit producing market rate units. Landlords can be slow to respond to needs. Apartments can fall into poor conditions. The city can get involved to enforce tenant rights but that’s not always a magic bullet.

I'd take the first one. The layout is better I think. But I'd make sure to have the locks changed after I move in. But I'd insist on that no matter where I lived. Having big radiators can be great in the winter. Just put a pan of water on it and voila! a humidifier. Also great for keeping food a little warmer while entertaining. Just be sure to vacuum the radiator boxes at least twice a month. A LOT of dust can gather there. Believe me LoL.

I grew in with them in my house in Ozone Park Queens and remember putting my socks, hat, and mittens on if after coming home in rain/snow, the water pan humidifiers, and I know many people find the sounds annoying but they soothe me because they were the background music to my childhood, along with the A train El 2 blocks up.

Fort George was the last fort built during the Revolutionary War. The neighborhood sits on a ridge from 181st street to Dykman Street and Broadway to the Harlem river. The Cloister museum is close by. The blocks are extremely hilly and steep. The area is also known as nosebleed heights due to the ridge it sits on. Not the worst neighborhood but remember to get to midtown 30 minutes, downtown, Queens or Brooklyn longer. Late night train rides through some neighborhoods could be iffy. FYI.
This is Washington Heights/Inwood.- Post Pandemic
That subway tunnel Should tell you everything you need to know.
    I know the area
It's LOUD (This used to be the cocaine capital of the country. They sold it by the pound)
Be mindful of Drug dealers doing business on every block. Random shootings are commonplace and you wouldn't want to "catch a stray" (bullet)
There's also trash everywhere, much of which doesn't make the cans and it's also fairly isolated.
However, Riverside Drive is nice and Washington Heights south of 167th ( Columbia Presbyterian) is pretty calm now and with a nice mix of people.
But if you can handle it, fine.

As a former born and raised New Yorker both of those apartments are absolute gems. You can design and do a lot with both of them and for that point to have your own space is amazing. Prices like that are what rent should be everywhere in the country.

You are awesome! Loved this video. I really appreciated the look through the entire apartments and surrounding areas. I think I like the layout and feeling of the first apartment better than the second, though you are right that there is more room and area in the second one. The bathroom in the second one has much better tile around the tub - clean and neat, though I kind of like the first bathroom better. Hard to choose! That subway tunnel was so frightening to me, I could film a fantastic horror movie between that and the bus terminal. LOL

Great to see affordable units in New York! The downside would be no laundry in the building and no elevator in the second unit building, but to be able to save thousands of dollars in rent would likely be worth the inconvenience for people who want to live there without the financial strain of the usual inflated rental prices and to live with a normal amount of space!

Here is my experience. I moved in and got a killer deal. Cheap cheap cheap, but after only a few months they raised the rent, and then raise it again, and again, and again, and finally again. So it was no good deal, just worse then the expensive ones. I think they do it, to hook you and then screw you.

I personally have not viewed an apartment in Washington Heights (where I currently live on the west side ) for $1000 in about ten years, and the one I saw was a dump with eviction stickers everywhere-but east of broadway, which is where these apartments are, in prewar walkups without laundry deals definitely can routinely be found, and maybe even in elevator laundry buildings. A little loud there, especially in summer, but housing stock can be good.

Both are spacious apartments that look in decent shape, if also dated. While the first one had an elevator it looked like Cash had stairs for the second one - how many flights? If they are really close to a subway station they would seem to be a bargain. Further downtown you get a place in an alley for your refrigerator carton at that price. Surely there's a laundromat somewhere nearby.

I have NEVER before seen a massively heavy building of solid brick suspended on ancient rusty stilts before. And I must admit, it's a terrifying sight. But I guess it's stood there for almost 100 years so...??? I'm from earthquake country though, so I think I'll go with building #1. It'd be hard enough for me living in unreinforced masonry without constant anxiety LOL. That said, these are both really charming old apartments and I love everything else about them. The medical center NY Presbyterian Medical Center is 168th Street & Broadway. It's always good to have a hospital facility near you. That long long subway tunnel is Broadway & 191st street the IRT #1 train. BEWARE...one way in, one way out. It's been named the "worst subway entrance". It's worth to walk a few extra blocks to get to the "A" train which is express during rush hours. Don't forget the picturesque Fort Tryon Park. A good running park. It has the Cloister Museum.
