- A day all Metal Detectorists dream of. On a Rally held by Go Detecting Midlands who you can find on Facebook an amazing hoard of Saxon silver pennies came to light. Watch the video and see the moment some of these 1200 year old coins were found. Most likely buried in a pot by a Saxon noble as they got word the Viking Army were about to invade them.

Nice job documenting the finds so we can see them especially the live digs. Unbelievable those coins have been in the ground 600 years before Columbus sailed to the new world. I really enjoy your channel. 🇺🇸 Thanks Steve

Good job Steve 👍 Only just saw this. Anglo Saxon finds are rare and really help to piece our history together. Brilliant job filming the coins coming up.
I found a Saxon Gilded Hooked Tag on the beach a couple of months ago and it made my year.
Congrats buddy on your find. I’ve had one sceat and a few strap ends. Would love a penny 😊
Wow! What I wouldn't give to be able to hunt old ground like that someday! Thanks for sharing, Ro

Great video Stephen on the hoard well done finders
Cheers Bobby hope you’re keeping well mate. 😊
nice to see you and buster out again.
Thanks mate great to be back out 😊
New subscriber from SE Minnesota, USA. Great video of an amazing day! We have nothing that old to fine here. We're having a very good day if we find a coin from the mid 1800s in this part of our country. It's fun to see you guys finding coins a thousand years older than that. Looking forward to following more of your adventures here. Jim Parry, Backroads Metal Detecting
Thanks Jim. History is all relevant to where you live. There is still some amazing finds coming to light in America. Thanks for the sub I’ll go check your channel out. Good luck 😊
massive congratulations to all the finders....and well done to you Steve for getting down there and documenting what was there...things like this should inspire anyone to get out there and do some detecting....i for one cant wait to get out again on my Iron Age site...already had 2 hoards on there...roll on end of september...all the best when your out again m8 you n Buster take care...GL&HH Gordon.
Cheers mate good luck on your site 😊
Awesome video Steve keep up the good health your looking much better I’ll be looking forward to seeing the other part of this dig hopefully you will be on the Saxon 👍👍👍
Thanks mate I won’t spoil it for you. They need to get on that spot when the rains have been too.
@@AngloCelticMetalDetecting it’s a shame that the farmer didn’t wet it for them👍👍👍
I was out in that dig and I have to say well done to the guys. I'm relatively new to detecting. I'm looking forward to this Saturdays dig, a lot of Roman history. Just one coin would make me happy
That’s all it takes mate just one coin 😊
great to see them Saxon silvers coming up
Glad you liked it mate 😊
Amazing to see!
Cheers buddy 😊
Awesome job Steve.
Well done buddy 👍
Cheers Jeff 😊
cool day Steve, well done for getting down there to get it on video.
I've been digging a lot of old scrap from caravans so getting well fed up at the moment.
not had a coin in a few days.
nice 1857 3 pence the other day but the ground is so hard it's difficult to get things out without damaging them.
lovely 1830 floral triple guilt button yesterday but slow going and hard on the wrists and ankles here in Cornwall.
thanks for giving us a view of what can be found.
just not in my fields unfortunately.
glad your on the mend.
Well done on your three pence mate. We need some rain 😊
Sorry short comment. Was in hurry to get other stuff done.glad to see you cover the old old coins.

Thanks mate and well done on your awesome coin 😊
What a beauty, the wiglaf is a dream coin off mine. Good luck to the fella.
Yes some amazing coins there bud cheers 😊
@@AngloCelticMetalDetecting yes obviously, I only saw one coin that I have searched for. Trouble is you are not the owner or finder, in my opinion it incredibly rare. Under estimated in reference.
stunning finds!
Indeed mate cheers and be lucky.
What a buzz. Well done.
Thank you 😊
Just watched this video in Australia 🇦🇺 Absolutely awesome and well done on getting this recorded. Definitely going to watch your videos. Hoping you get on a Saxon coin or 2 or 3
Well Gday to you down under. Up to now I’ve only ever found one Saxon coin that was last year. But I do find nice Roman and Medieval coins a fair bit. If you click the trailer for my channel you’ll see I have Ozzy mates over most years too till covid came along. John finds an amazing coin in the trailer and we tease him. Think there’s even an old play list on my channel from years ago called the Detecting Ashes. Named after the Cricket Ashes. Me and John got talking about cricket buckles we’d both found one each. The rest is history as they say he even came over to be my best man. Next time he comes he’ll have to visit my wife’s grave cos unfortunately I lost her to cancer. Glad you liked the video. Dip in and enjoy 😊
Tbh when ya find saxion you know your in some serious history and hope all it well man
Cheers mate yes all good thanks 😊
Fantastic ! Congrats to all , stunning ! 😄👍
Cheers Guss mate 😊
lovely hoard
Cheers 😊
beautiful find, and ofcourse well documented mate
Thanks Lars say hello to Gerrie for me 😊
@@AngloCelticMetalDetecting She Thanks you very much mate :)
Oh nice very rare wulfred and Burgred
Yes you don’t see them often mate 😊
Wow what a find steve, good luck for you on the next field, glad your feeling better xxx
Thanks darling yes hopefully on the mend xxx
Being from the US i’m a bit dense on all the coins you all dig over there, but that looks like a spectacular find. Makes me want to hop a plane over some day to do a hunt.
It’s a fascinating part of our history. Sometimes these ancient hoards actually add to our knowledge showing allegiances between king’s we didn’t know existed.
WOW. one day I Wanna b there n find some or even 1 lol 👌🙏🏼❤️
Me too 🤣
well done guys
Thanks buddy 😊
Health is the most important thing of all
It sure is mate thanks
Thanks
Fabulous to watch our history uncovered. So happy that you decided to go and catch it on film for us all to enjoy. Have a coffee on me and it would be marvellous if everyone else bought you coffee if they enjoyed watching your filming x
Thanks Nicole for your nice comment. Let me know if you can’t find my Kofi link I’ll find it fit you. Very kind of you. x
Good to see the Deus 2 well in the lead
Yes tough with the ground so dry too.
Cracking hoard...
Yes nice coins mate cheers.
Great video
Thanks buddy 😊
Cheers Cary 😊
🇱🇺 Pretty coins 😜
Thanks buddy 😊
It’s a shame the original finder couldn’t have the area to dig them all up on his own
Guy who found the first one thought it was a Jetton and moved off. It was roped off as soon as they knew it was a hoard and him and two others shared the area.
👍
🤟
One for the flo
Yes indeed mate
Will make a playlist and play them playing overnight, maybe help with your channel Stephen. Hopefully you're on the mend now. 😘 Chez
Oh bless ha ha thank you 😊
I live in Bidford and feel your excitement.. Well done on the find, could you advise me on what happens to the coins now. Would love to see them at some point... Jx
They’ll all be handed in . Each county has their own Finds Liaison Officer. A coroner has to write a report on them. Decide if a museum is keeping them or returned to finders. In this high status important case the museum will keep them. Treasure valuation committee will pay out a value. The farmer will get half and the finders split the rest. The whole Treasure process can take two to three years sometimes longer. Hopefully at the end of that they’ll go on display . I dubbed it the Bidford hoard possibly might end up being called the Bickmarsh hoard it’s early days just now. Detecting conditions were really bad we struggle with dry ground so hopefully the total of 24 will rise when people revisit with better ground conditions.
@@AngloCelticMetalDetecting this is fantastic. My grandson has just told me he saw you all on his way past to do his pony. Hopefully some better weather conditions for you and a bigger find, good luck all involved...Jx
The right place at the right time. Luck of the draw.
Got to be in it to win it 😊
@@AngloCelticMetalDetecting Defo man.
Nice. Seem like there is so much hate through the facebook group😅
Typical Facebook groups 😊 but this group is a good one 😊
Watching back a old video mate..
So what happens if someone finds one or more outside of the cornered off area? They are clearly part of the hoard..
Yes they did. All declared together mate.
Imagine what Britain would be now if the Normans had not invaded?
We wouldn’t have so many nice castles for one. But one way or another Britain would still be on its knees today like it is. Those rich controllers are all the same more so now than ever. 😊
CELTO SAXON
Let’s hope so 😊
any legends on the hunt ? be intresting to see if they got any hits
Not amongst the finders. My mate uses a Legend but found a tiny fragment of one of the hoard coins when we went back today with his Deus 2.
@@AngloCelticMetalDetecting how are you getting on with your deus ive seen in some other videos how you have said your deus needs an update etc etc is it getting better or dose it still need somthing ? thanks for your time
@@kilner79 I’ve not been out much lately. I’m running the latest update and initially wasn’t impressed but I have found nice stuff with it. Doesn’t look like XP are in a hurry to bring out any more.
@@AngloCelticMetalDetecting ive had a nox800 but i feel i was a lemon it allways had bad emi and churping i hated it so much and then i tried a friends nox800 and it was silent and amazing i tried his settings and mine was all over the place i ended up selling it and now im in the market for a new machine ive done so much reserch and some are saying the legend is best others saying the nox is better than legend then some saying the deus is the best then a couple saying the ctx3030 is the best its mega hard at the moment to pick somthing and it feels like every one is pulling the other brand down so its hard to make a decision
i see the deus 2 got that hord the other day but then again im sure any detector could get those coins at 3inch
@@kilner79 with what I know about all the latest detectors if I didn’t have one just now and was spending my own money I’d buy the Legend. My mate Badger just bought one and he’s happy. Sid often uses his over his Deus 2 also. Just a good machine at a decent price not saying any one is better than another.
I’d go crazy if that was me that found the first coins as anyone else there with a coin has the rite to claim as there own field needs to be cleared and left to first person to find any otherwise there will be arguments which there most likely will be
You pay to dig on the land for the day if stuff starts coming up you cant say "right everyone the digs off " 🤣
@@joebloggs7103 yess you can that’s the way it’s done otherwise coins end up in pockets and multiple try claiming the hoard it’s happened many times before it hits avoids that
@@owainwilliams7993 they could end up in pockets at any dig though probs happens all the time tbh lol
The first finder thought he’d found a worthless Jetton. So he went far away from that area. Second finder came in and started finding lots. Just as he realised it was a hoard a third finder had found two. So it was cordoned off.
@@AngloCelticMetalDetecting haha that will haunt him
Modern Saxons plundering a Field. Will all these coins come under treasure trove and not be taken home?? How does it work?
The FLO is aware of them and she can watch the video even 😊
