- Mario Strikers: Battle League recently released and has been receiving a lot of backlash over the lack of content. It seems people are getting tired of these bare bones launches on Nintendo Switch.

Remember when you could just walk into a video game store Day 1, buy a game, and got a complete package? Pepperidge Farms remembers...
Most of the blame goes to the consumer. These companies wouldn't be doing this stuff if people stop enabling these companies with their bad business practices.
The original strikers was not much to ride home about, but if you talk about charge then yes I remember. However the third entry has less content day one then the original fifteen years ago.
I do think it can be reformed if enough content was given to the base. If you still want a complete package support indies. Bombing Metacritic might as well be shouting in a cave.
good ol ps2/gamecube days and before
I know, right? I miss those days.
It’s insane that a game from 2007 offers more for its players than a game in 2022. The gaming industry is in the absolute dumpster with these DLC focused releases.
Truly sad it’s all about monay monay monay
They're aiming for streaming services more this time around. These dropplet released are just slowly preparing people for game, streaming services. PlayStation just did it with the new psplus and Nintendo is slowly doing it with their membership account. I still hate it. It is ultimately anti consumerism. You will literally never own anything with streaming services.
Also, dropplet released like these with Mario soccer make it so people with no internet are stuck with incomplete games because they can't update it
As annoying as it is from a company perspective it makes sense. Some people will buy a game day one and beat it and be done with it by the time the rest of the public gets it. Then when the next wave gets it they do the same and the only people left playing are the die hard fans and everyone quits talking about it and sales tank. By drip feeding the shit that should have been in the game since the start it keeps people playing and talking about it.
When done correctly no one feels like they've been ripped off, but this was not done correctly and it backfired.

The original had secondary characters accompanying the main one instead of just having the main ones, i would prefer that honestly
you mean the sidekicks
I prefer the main ones. I prefer a team of Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser than a team of Mario and some randoms.
Yeah that was my favorite part you pick your captain then side kicks and only the captain has super powers
Think about if from a multiplayer point of view. I would rather want to control a captain than boo #2 on my team and playing with people is extremely fun and rewarding in this one. When club battles start I think the game will get more praise.
@Austin Clubb bad thing is, you need to pay for online for club battles... If NSO didn't exist, people would be way happier, everyone would be able to play instead of paying to use the internet every year (not really that bad but its not free like the past systems...) or... On a child's POV: _"asking their parents and they say no"_ which is the big one right there. Plus if the game is still bland, no amount of playing online will help, it will be a challenge sure, but it will still feel like its missing something

It's a shame that Battle League is in the state it's in now. Charged still holds up as the superior Mario soccer game because it wasn't afraid to go wild. Every stadium was either a crazy venue or packed from floor to rafter with crazy, wild, insane fans chanting or screaming their heads off. The action was fast paced and crazy while the aesthetic was chaotic, gritty, and brutal without being overly edgy. It somehow took itself seriously while not taking itself too seriously. It really looked like this was some ultra blood sport and that every player was a superstar in it's own way. In battle league, there's less of it and it's been toned down to be more safe.
Honestly I wouldn't deny the being edgy part, but just because of so I don't think it really changes anything. It was a common thing for games to be darker and edgier during the Wii era and honestly I wish Nintendo could go back to that style, even if it is criticized in other franchises for replacing bright and vivid colors with more gloomy and greyish colors.
Idk about that, but I played the one on GameCube and it was one of my favorites. I've been waiting for a new reboot for the franchise and I'm not sure if I should
When i was a kid i must admit Mario Strikers Charged is the only game that driven me crazy beyond control due to how edgy, extreme, thrill and how tough the game is. Mario strikers charged hands down the best mario strikers ever.
Funny variety win and lose (sad and angry) animations, thrilling sudden death match. Wow... Can't say anymore than this... 😎🔥👍
Nintendo needs a HUGE management overhaul. The leaders there are so damn anti-consumer, it’s crazy. Ever since Iwata died, they’ve really been going downhill
Relatively true, I do think it stems from the Japanese part of the company wanting to extend the longevity of their games, but I personally think the plan can work if content was balance so there is enough for the base and more offered free.
Alright, what's your solution
the switch came out after Iwata passed, and its the best selling console ever, and smash ultimate, mario kart 8, mario odyssey and Botw are all amazing.....whoever is in charge of nintendo's sports games needs a management overhaul.
@@stnrodriguez Then again it also came out BEFORE Reggie left Nintendo. After Reggie's departure, it all started to go downhill
Nintendo hasn't been the same since the Switch's release
As someone who hasn't bought strikers. I think a big reason is because every clip of gameplay and every trailer looks the same. At least with Aces and Super Rush they showed new things (speed golf, story mode, etc) over time, but with strikers, if you watch the first trailer, you've kind of seen the whole game.
I don't know though man golf and in my opinion aces (though I enjoyed it for what it is) was the same bland boring stages over and over. The reason this game looked as good as it did wasn't because of the stages for me it was the expressive pixar level animation, incredible visuals and extensive art style and yet the game fell flat for me with the gameplay and lack of content but I did enjoy aces for what it was.
Too bad the gameplay is shallow and offers little content. It feels more like a 20 dollar game and not a whopping 60. This game was just lazy plain and simple. Does not live up to the previous games. If you play one hour of this game then you’ve seen everything which is embarrassing
@@SoggySlopster I agree 100% I enjoy the animation but if that's the only thing you like then there is something wrong with your game
This game has so many flaws that it’s actually made me decide, I’m never buying a sports game ever again. I’ll stick to the mainline games thank you very much. I’m not about to tolerate this type of bullshit from a lazy company who can’t even make a half ass game never mind a full one
@Talkative Yellow Toad damn, I felt that... Sad that it comes to that point, we can't be fooled too many times, and eventually Nintendo will get it the hard way... They are a big business, but even they can crash down hard (they almost did so many times in the past)
All of these Mario sports games all suffer from the same issue I think: Good gameplay but lack of content
But it's not just characters and stages.
It's that the gameplay has issues too. The fields are too small making it hard to breath and plan out a strategy. Captain items are completely missing and those really helped strategize your game plan. The charged shots are just an item so it feels really random when you can and can't shoot a hyper Shot. It's missing characters and stage hazards yes...but it's missing alot of heart too
Exactly, my exact thoughts.
Its so true though, the game itself in terms of gameplay and aesthetics isn't bad, its very good. But they made the game look pretty when it plays like a game you'd binge play for a few hours and never touch it again for a week to even a month
@@dr.wolfstar1765 the hyperstrikes are like this because now your entire team can do them
@@therandomguy2212 no I understand but it feels like there should be more strategy to when you can do them. Like after every 3 shots on goal your team can do a hyperstrike. Or make it a rewards for being fouled too much and justify the extra point. Idk just having it being an item you get at random feels hollow
@@dr.wolfstar1765 special shots never worked like that in any Mario strikers game, and it would be way to op if you could just do 3 shots and then hyperstrikes, considering how fast people can get goals in this game.
The absence of character specific abilities and items was already a blow, but having only 10 characters? That was what hurt the most
U hit the nail on the head. I said the same thing once I saw the trailer

I remember playing Mario strikers charged, and the thing that i enjoyed the most was to use the backplayers. Throwing hammers at the goalie as a charge shot, burning the goalies hands with toads charge shot and then jumping over him, using the skeleton koopa to teleport into the goal when the ball was fully charged. And i used to try to avoid using the team captains, as their chargeup move was long, teadious and overpowered. The campaign mode was also super fun as it allowed you to win new team captains, and it got more challenging as you moved up the ranks. Now they have litterally removed everything that was fun and unique about the game, and tried to compensate it with a 8-player split screen mode... I dont even have that many friends, wtf nintendo.
The Side kick players where probably more enjoyable to score with than the main characters
Fully agree.
Dry Bones was absolutely busted and I loved it.
@Seamire i always had him in my team with koopa troopa and shy guy
I always disabled the super shots and power ups, that way the game was the most enjoyable. Seeing this is kinda heartbreaking, even today I play strikers charged from time to time
I honestly would’ve preferred if the just rereleased strikers charged with a higher resolution, more consistent frame rate, better online, and that’s it because at the very least it’s an already feature complete game and a fantastic game
That is honestly more scummy.
Online wasn’t bad but kritter needed an upgrade 😂
Exactly my thought since charged holds up well and and is perfect for switch. Even the gcn one was better then battle league
@@chriskagero4583 w
The only problem with charged was it was unbalanced and side kick characters use cheese to score. Like Boo can phase through a critter and kick the ball in. I don't know if that was intentional, but that seemed broken af.
Part of the issue I have with Strikers:BL at a glance is just how generic it is. Team logos are generic, theres no fancy Super Abilities or Skillshots (the later due to removal of sidekicks) to make the characters more than stats and a hyper strike, there's only the one generic field. And while this the most expressive they have been in ages, Charged characters still have way more personality down to having theme songs.
This game also has it after a goal. Character themes that is.
This game just doesn't have enough content to justify the asking price.
This is a 4v4 game with no 4v4 online, that only has 10 characters, 5 stages that are basically the same, and almost no single-player content. This feels more like a $15-$20 game and they are asking for $60 instead.
I know they are gonna finish the game later for free, but by then the game will be dead, especially if all they add is just more characters and stages.
You can have 4 players all on one team if you do co-op with two consoles. I find that to be very strange tho that they wouldn't allow you to search 4v4 as well because it's clearly doable.
NGL, I'm scared to see what they'd do if they revive Sluggers next if it falls victim to the "update later" approach. I feel it'd just be the basic Mario cast (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, DK, etc.) and have Yoshis/Toads to fill the rest of the roster since you need at least 18 characters. There'd also be like 2 stadiums.
I really want a new sluggers game, however I’m concerned they’re gonna forget something like chemistry
@@flynn4945 Honestly I would rather a port of the original one and that’s what makes it sad.

I don't understand why people are so upset with the game. It's honestly mind blowing how people are so upset over the character roster and map selection. Many people seem to overlook many of the improvements MSBL has over MSC and SMS. Whether its more competitive and involved gameplay with mechanics such as perfect tackles and team tackles or the addition of gear and clubs. At it's core MSBL is a improved version of SMS in every way imaginable. Many who play it are upset it isnt charged however MSBL wasnt intended to be Charged. Charged is an extremely fun and chaotic game dont get me wrong however, it was often critiqued for its chaotic gameplay; Especially when it came to the map events and megastrikes. MSBL went back to its gamecube roots and hit the nail on the head by improving upon it greatly. Sure there are less characters and stadiums total then charged but is that really that big of an issue? Even if there were more characters the optimal builds would more or less be the same. It would just be different characters scoring goals. Thats far from a deal breaker to me. Furthemore, when it comes to stadiums each club has its own club stadium which you can edit to your liking. You can change things such as floor patterns, goals posts. etc. The overall gameplay of the game is great and has more depth then the previous two entries thanks to gear, new mechanics, and a more involved stat system as previously mentioned. People also seem to have a major issue with no 4 vs 4 online mode but if we are being completely honest 4 vs 4 online would be a chaotic mess and would flow poorly. Im not exactly sure what people expected when they bought MSBL. At its core its a soccer game so its gonna be a bit repetitive. Theres still cup battles and even unlockable gear. I myself am very pleased with the game. I also may be in the minority for this part of the take but I for one look forward to the addition of characters in the future rather than having more at launch. It's a reason to come back to the game at a later date. Overall I am pleased with the game and look forward to seeing what club leagues and the other updates bring to the game.

These Mario sports games have all been so horribly disappointing lately. The Mario series is my favorite game series by far but I haven’t even been able to bring myself to buy this game or golf. I used to really not have any problems with DLC, and to an extent I still don’t, smash ultimate and Mario maker 2 are great examples of complete games that got GOOD DLC after launch. But these sports games are really not good signs for whats to come, all I can hope is that this “incomplete” issue stays out of the mainline series and the big spin-offs like kart and maker.
Yes. I hated Mario tennis on the switch. It was so awful and the story mode was just downright unfair how accurate the opposing cpu was.
Tbh, MM2 DLC was awesome... But its still a shame amiibo costumes didn't come back... That was a top tier Mario Maker part that didn't come back 😔
It almost feels like a slap in the face to bring something back, and then just not give a crap about putting much of anything substantial in the game. Makes me glad I never got invested in the sports series spinoff.
Guess i won't get this game then
this game is TRASH i'd rather play sonic frontiers
Honestly something that was also really disappointing was the choice to replace the kritters with the boom-booms. Like when I was 10 I was playing strikers charged and the kritters were super awesome and kinda made me want to play goalkeeper IRL, which i ended up doing all through high school. The Kritters were super hard to beat which made it all the more satisfying to score on them, while the boom booms are trying to make kicksaves which is kind of a big no-no and a very last resort when it comes to goalkeeping. IDK, the Boom-booms just look dumb while the kritters looked mean and intense. And on top of it all the ball isn't as satisfying anymore. Like in Charged, every time you hit the ball the sound was metallic, or it sounded like it was charged, while in this game, everytime someone kicks the ball it sounds like someones punching a pillow. Even a real soccer ball sounds better than that.
They’ve even taken the fun out of the arenas
Not at all sometimes they sucks too .
Yeah Idc for the Kritter or Boom Booms. But to take out the Charge mechanic is just so disappointing. Whoever thought of that should be ashamed.
@@Winterhe4rt I always hated the change to the chargers mechanic. I liked the first Mario Strikers more back then. I like that they went back to the roots with that change.
Yeah, I'm sad they took out Kritters. But I'm just confused that we still can't pick our own goalie nor have Kritters as non-goalie teammates. Then again, they took all the sidekicks out and kept Toad as a Captain, so it's whatever at this point.
I can agree with you on that conspiratorial take. There's something wrong with not just the Mario Sports games, but *all* the Mario Spin-offs with probably the exception of Mario Kart. Ever since the 3DS era, it seems that someone at the top has been insisting on homogenizing the whole Mario brand to the point where developers flat out aren't allowed to go wild with the franchise anymore. The rpgs not being allowed to make new original character npcs, the sports games lacking in content, imagination, etc.; it just ends up feeling bland and it's disappointing because I really enjoy the gameplay of Tennis Aces, but the overall lack of content ended up killing that game.
I was pretty surprised that they actually gave Strikers another shot considering that this series had a more edgy tone compared to the other sports titles. ngl I was kinda disappointed with how toned down this game is compared to the last game. At first I was pretty hopeful that with this game's release, the prospect of a new Mario Baseball entry was in order, but with the how the recent entries performed and were treated, I'm not sure if Bandai Namco would be able to do that game justice if this trend of treating the spin-off games like one and done deals while slowly drip feeding the content continues.
We Paper Mario fans warned you all when Origami King released, the Mario brand has been consistently dumbed down for no reason since the 2010s (Super Mario Galaxy 2 cut content).
3DS's Mario Golf was kinda good though. But that aside, the rest of spin-offs in the system were pretty mediocre, with the other exception I can think of currently being M&L: Dream Team.
EDIT: It's quite of an unpopular take I assume, but I'd like if they brought the Mario Golf human characters back to the games.
I'm not really into this series, but I do question why Daisy isn't playable here

This "finish it later" existed because it all started with Splatoon on the Wii U.
Facts man!
THANK YOU.
I always felt like Splatoon became what Shrek was to the movie industry, where it showed great success, but the company or entire industries attempt to copy what they THOUGHT was the reason for success and it just ends up not working. For Splatoon? The updates worked for Splatoon because it was actually a complete game at the start, like Smash Bros 4 or Ultimate especially. It doesn't work for other games because they don't feel like advancements than their predecessors.
This is all because Nintendo couldn’t wait to fully flesh this game out. Nintendo co-developed this game with Next Level Games (with the prior two entries being handled by Next Level Games exclusively) and it shows. The single player content is so anemic, with no story mode, characters or stadiums to unlock, training mode challenges akin to _Wii Sports,_ and in my opinion, the marquee _Mario Strikers_ attitude is _very_ toned down compared to _Super Mario Strikers_ and _Strikers Charged_ before it. You can tell Next Level Games wanted to do so much more with this entry, but couldn’t because of Nintendo wanting to rush this game out like their other sports games.
EDIT: Next Level Games are the sole developers of _Mario Strikers: Battle League._ Back when the game was first announced, Wikipedia listed Nintendo EPD _and_ Level Games as the developers, so I’d ran with that and didn’t check the wiki until a few minutes ago.
It can be hypothesized that Nintendo gave Next Level Games a strict deadline to “complete” the game and add content they was supposed to be in the base game as free DLC.

I think the thing that got me the most with this game was that about two cups in I was like "Okay I've seen this team composition at least four times now, I'm getting bored." yet with Charged I couldn't care less with the amount of Toads, Monty Moles, Birdos etc there were on the field cause it was so much fun to mix and match that it didn't matter. It feels unfinished and I'm glad I got it secondhand.
Anyone else have noticed just how low quality Nintendo has gone in recent years, starting from their online service to Pokemon and now this. It is sad. I barely find a reason to fire up my Nintendo Switch or buy any games for it.
Pokemon is basically solely Game Freak, Nintendo has not much to do with it by contrast
This is why we pirate... Or mod old systems that were actually fun... Like for me. CTGP is where its at... If you like MKWII
the NSO really updates in a snail's pace, compared to Virtual Console on the Wii U (don't know too much about the pacing on the 3DS and Wii)
Your argument became irrelevant the 2nd you said Pokemon.
1st N doesnt manage Pokemon in ANY way outside of publishing the game (blame TPC for constantly rushing GF instead of blaming someone not even involved with that) and are you implying that its been "lacking in quality" even with Arceus out? I bet ur one of those guys that says that gen 5 were the last good games when thats false
2nd they literally upgraded to a better service (look at Rise & Arceus)
Stinkin sick of ppl blaming N for Pkmn when its TPC that keeps stinkin rushing the devs 24/7
@@skullerclawerbandicoot7966 Yet TPC is 1/3 owned by Game Freak, 1/3 by Creatures Inc and 1/3 by Nintendo unless that changed somewhere in between
Back in the day buying a full game you got the full package now its rush it out then finish later.
As someone who owns the game i can see why everyone hates the game and says it lacks content because as everyone can see gamer or not its bare minimum work. But the gameplay is actually the best its been in the series so far because of the competitive nature of the game. It requires the most amount of skill ive seen in a long time from a mario game. But yes it lacks everything there is to a game except for gameplay. You can tell Nintendo just needed a game to release before a deadline but holy man the lack of content is infuriating. this game at its core is very very very good and i can see a long lasting competitive seen just based off the amount of skill you need. But Nintendo is really kicking themselves in the butt by releasing 40% done games. If this game came out 100% done like old games i would say this game would most likely be the best mario game of the year by far but because of the lack of content it really hurts the game....
YEESSSSS I AGREEE
Let me explain
Id rather buy a fun game that will later get content and remind me how fun it is, than a full game that will get boring quick
That's the shocking thing. I hadn't even heard about the game until the direct when it had a release date already. I wasn't even expecting it but when it was shown and announced I felt like it was gonna lack a ton of content exactly like golf and tennis
Yeah, I imagine sparks of hope will be the best Mario game this year instead and I am much more hopeful for that because the studio making the Mario+rabbids games are actually competent and not some lazy half ass company who can’t make a half decent sports games after like the 5th time on the one console
@@jeremymarcil6287 a full game day 1 is better than an incomplete game day 1 as it sends a better impression of its quality and enjoyment to the player.

Charged is still the best one I guess. Had characters with actual unique utility wise special shots and abilities. Then there's mission mode. Not sure but believe there's more characters in there just team captain wise. Game updates just giving content that should've been in there in the first place just to become relevant again in intervals sucks.
It still is. Captains and sidekicks have a purpose but in battle league, theres no purpose to be a captain or a sidekick. This game was doomed when they changed that.
I actually dislike Charged very much and prefer the original for the GameCube. It had the variety this game needs while also having actually good gameplay (Strikers Charged is literally just play hot potato and then shoot the ball.) This game does lack hella stuff though and it sucks because the gameplay looks nice but it looks like it lacks so much.

This is satire if you don't know.
As much as I enjoyed this game. The lack of content really holds it back. if it just had a few more characters and fields, it could have been something amazing.
I doubt that, the game still has a whole list of flaws that I can’t be bothered repeating for the millionth time.
@@stevenmcburney8167 such as? I thought the gameplay was pretty great
Same here, at least give me a few more characters and some different fields with hazards. That in itself would help a lot.
Imagine being beaten by FIFA in content 💀
@@Fooza05 yeah the gameplay is fun, for a while but it becomes kinda stale knowing you can get a free goal with a perfect shot which isn’t hard to time. The field hazards before really made sure you couldn’t just cheese a easy goal. Field is too small, less item chaos, etc
Stickers charged was my addiction as a teenager. I feel robbed, I’ll never get those experiences back.
When you were talking about Cup Battles, you may recall in the past, like in Charged, you would sometimes get News articles based on how matches go. Reading the headlines and summaries between matches added that "little" something that worked with the vibe so much. I feel though this game, as it is, lacks too much content. Online play is fine and all, but a stronger OFFLINE would go a long way.
Bro beating Petey Piranha on the Final Cup was such a PAIN but it did feel so good finally beating it! The game is so special to me and it's sad that Battle League was such a disappointment.
The reason why it didn't do very well was because it lacked a number of playable characters, most notably Daisy. When it was first seen in a Direct months prior to its release, it seemed to excite many, but when the real truth came about, all the excitement finally fell through the roof.
I agree, I think Daisy being excluded is very bizarre, my only thought is that she was deliberately left out for DLC because she has a huge fanbase and is the face of Mario sports
@8:20, not just that, but the last Strikers game was 15 years ago. I feel like that contributes to the backlash. It definitely does for me.
The roster is so depressing compared to the other games in this series.
This game will still be a multimillion best seller because it has Mario in it. It's the other Mario sports games all over again, releasing with a bare bones amount of content and only getting a handful of new updates later on.
I think the problem is that with games like Mario strikers, golf, Wii sports, and a lot of their new games, is that we remember when they came out fully done. But since we’re in this new era of “DLC” and “updates” the games are coming out lesser than what they used to be. Honestly I still have my strikers on my Gamecube and I see no reason to get this one other than maybe online.
Knowing Nintendo, they are probably gonna cancel the games after a couple of updates like the Mario Golf (remember that?)
Yeah... I remember... That game died so fast, hope whoever bought it loves golf as their favorite sport
I think it failed because strikers was based on being edgy, and so it felt different from other nintendo games, it was a take that turned mario and its characters into savage, focused, unforgiving soccer players that were willing to play dirty to win.
I’m not sure why Nintendo rushed this game to release like why couldn’t they have at least pushed it back to July, august, September or even October
Never thought I'd say this, but lord please don't let Nintendo do another Sluggers game
Yeah it’s sad. I haven’t played too many Mario Sports games, but I absolutely loved Mario Super Sluggers. I’d rather have a port of that game because at least I know that game is good. Or maybe port Mario Superstar Baseball. I haven’t played that and I would love to see it on switch
@@JGr2000 Honestly considering Sonic Colors: Ultimate... I can't even promise ports being good.
@@rayplaysgamesrpg7233 yeah… good point
Honestly the fact that there aren't a bunch of modes and stuff isn't the problem for me, it's that they changed so much about the mechanics, controls, and vibe of the series that it feels almost like they've actively stepped away from associating with the previous games
The Mario sports games have become what they set out not to do. Be a box standard sports title. This game could have the potential to be good, but is ruined by Nintendo's "fix it later" approach. I remember when the sports games use to be full of personality, like the previous Mario Strikers games or any of the previous titles. Where Mario tropes were used in tangem with sports games to craft fun sports games. That's not to say this game doesn't have some amount of aggressiveness in characters, but I miss the more grungy look and more aggressive character tones of the previous two games.
Nintendo's trend of adding content to games that lack it has finally caught up to them to bite them in the ass
Has it really...?
@@rayplaysgamesrpg7233 If I'm being honest probably not...
minor change i think would make a BIG impact: instead of having the ability to 'block' hyper strikes by just tapping real fast (something with zero skill required) i think itd be waaaay more interesting to basically give the same timing minigame used to take the hyperstrike to the goalie but maybe make it move faster so its harder to pull off etc
Yeah, I was a huge fan of mario strikers charge mainly because it had such a unique take on the mushroom characters, and even going into a bit of an edgy direction for nintendo. Even the characters themselves despite just being generic cartoonish one off, had some actual character put into them when I played the Wii version of this game.
No Daisy? 🥺
The worst part is other than adding characters I don't think Nintendo is going to fix the issues they'll probably add their characters and then dip and not make a new strikers game for a long time
Yeah, because they're likely not the ones making the game at all.
And the funny thing is, some people defend this game's lack of content by saying that the Strikers games never had much content to begin with or that Battle League has roughly the same amount of content as the previous titles...
First off, neither of those arguments are entirely true, because Charged still had more content than the original Strikers on the GameCube, by virtue of having the Road to the Striker Cup mode AND the Striker Challenges, not to mention having 20 characters and 17 stadiums.
And second off, here's the thing: isn't Battle League supposed to be... y'know, a SEQUEL? And aren't sequels supposed to have more content than their predecessors? Because not only does Battle League have less content than Charged, but I'd even go so far as to say that before the updates it had less content than even the first Mario Strikers (10 characters and 5 stadiums, when the original had 13 characters - and yes, the sidekicks count too whether you like it or not - and 7 stadiums)...
I've made a tweet about this situation a month ago about how Nintendo keep making these games unfinished and while the majority of people heavily lambasted me for it, it nice to some people knew where I'm coming from. MSBL will sell regardless cuz brand recognition, but if the Nintendo Community was louder enough about this bad practice, Nintendo will stop; but that just wishful thinking.
the truth is that no matter how loud we are, nintendo will never listen. remember the sticker star thing? after everyone said sticker star was the worst paper mario game nintendo dug their heels in even harder. they made paper jam, colour splash and origami king. nintendo used to be about unique, fun, original ideas. now they’re peak laziness. even next level games were victim to nintendo’s business practices.
Biggest issue with the game is a lack of content. Gameplay wise and visual wise it’s great but releasing a full priced game with only 10 characters no story and really only 2-3 modes and barely any gear. This game got bad scores because it was probably the most anticipated sports game Nintendo has ever made. No one expected a lot of content in golf and tennis but they eventually put a lot of content in those games. The model Nintendo is following with their current games is starting to get to players who want a complete package of fun modes content and maybe even customization instead of having to wait months to a year just for the game to be finished
Biggest additions I’d like to see is characters, a huge amount of gear, modes to spice up the gameplay, and maybe even quality of life changes like a uniform editor
there’s a lot I like about this game but I am so sick of nintendo releasing unfinished games that get finished later which makes it kinda middle of the road given there is nothing to do and there is essentially only one field in the game (the game tells you there is 5 but literally nothing but the music and backgrounds changes with them) and the lack of 4v4 is such a disappointment
This is not the first time that this has happened, but im glad people is finally realizing how uuterly lackluster some nintendo games are, with enough gameplay to play for like 5 hours and suddenly being done with the game out of nowhere. I remember buying kirby star allies back then and there was so little content i finished the game at 100% in just 5 hours of playing casually after lunch. The same has happened with many other games, theyre so short it is not even worth the 60+bucks they cost
All Mario Sports should be like the ones on GameBoy Advance, that had RPG story modes, and that player you leveled up could be used To play outside story Mode
Could of been about our miis saving the day through soccer lmao
I am going to be honest most people say that they still have personality but its so waterd down like peach used to be a little salty but now when she loses she Takes a deep breath
I really think that Nintendo should add more content for Mario Strikers Battle League example more playable characters like Daisy, Bowser Jr. and Diddy Kong. I would want to see an adventure added to this game in the future. The adventure mode focuses on the player to help improve their soccer skills while going though an adventure by competing different teams and trying to win the match and becoming the championship player of the team. The story needs a villain where the characters were forced to complete in a soccer championship competition and stop the villain from ruining soccer as a sport and trying to take over the world. The adventure mode will have levels that players could complete and challenges that will test the players skills. Mario Strikers Battle League would also need more than o e stadium at a time like a fire statdium, an ice stadium, and a sand stadium. Each stadium could be different parts of Mario’s world like New Donk City from Super Mario Odyssey or The Isle Delfino from Super Mario Sunshine. Each challenges will reward the player different skins for each Mario characters and coins base on the difficulty of the challenge. It going to be similar to the Mario Kart games. I think all of this ideas will help Mario Strikers Battle League in the long run if Nintendo put more effort into getting more content to the game.
Just more characters and fields would be enough.
@@MadMax-ii8gq I 100% agree with you.
They should add these things quickly
They should have those things at the start
It's Next Level Games that developed the title, so they're the ones that would have to add the new content.
It’s definitely overall a big downgrade from previous games with having just one small field, lack of special abilities (other than hyper strikes), small character roster, and not many items but I have still have had decent fun with it. Also gear is a cool feature and I’d say it has the best menu theme in the series.
The gameplay, music, animations all looks soo good to me and I actually want this game…but yeah I’m waiting for updates
Same here. The game looks wonderful. The characters are alive and full of personality. But yikes is there no content. Between this and Nintendo Switch Sports, Nintendo better rethink releasing games in this manner.
The problem is that due to lack of characters and less variety of animations, those animations will get repetitive fast. In strikers charged each character had 5 goal celebration animations and 2 losing animations. This game has only 2 goal celebration animations and 1 losing animtation.
I feel as of this has started ever since Mario Party for the Switch, I can barely remember the name of the game because of how lackluster everything is.
One thing I will say about the free updates is that it feels more special with strikers. Like I’m kinda excited to see their goal animations, losing animations, victory animation, hyperstrikes, what their stats and how many builds I could make with that character. It’s a feeling that isn’t the same with tennis and golf
As soon as Nintendo stops releasing 1/8th of the game and finishing it through updates we should’ve had, we will never escape this era of boring Nintendo games. This is why old Nintendo games are timeless, they feel complete, and you can always come back to them. Even New Horizons was boring because it wasn’t finished. Im so grateful everyday for every BOTW 2 delay
Me and my buds bought this game hoping for a full squad to be disappointed thats its 2 players
New to your channel, awesome stuff! So this has embarrassingly kept me up for days. What song do you use for your intro?
one football match has 22 players without subs. The full game has just 11 players.
This game is a major let down. Stadiums are so boring.. no characters, barley any items, bam bam blows, online is so laggy, cup battles I beat in 2 hours.. now there’s nothing to do but lag online. I really don’t get it why they didn’t take notes from charged. Stadiums are fun and crowds were also so noisy and more fun. Also, menus are boring… charged had it all man
Nintendo gotten lazy with their spin-offs
Next Mario platformer will come with a free Dlc that includes the jumping mechanic.
I give you Super Mario Run.
that didn't happen now
do you guys think they’re gonna add more items? I think they’ve gotta add characters, including the ones that can be multiples of, like toad and yoshi. stages need hazards tho idk if that’s gonna be in updates but next level games made whole new mini games as updates for luigi’s mansion three so who knows
edit: as for going online with a group of four friends, this should’ve been obvious when they couldn’t even do it with smash. it’s not gonna happen because of the hardware, not the software
the fields are just too small and the style just isnt as good and so many things are just off, very dissapointed.
Getting tired of Nintendo giving us incomplete games I tried the demo was really impressed
This is tough. I really wanted this to be the best strikers game in the series but this took a step back. Lack of roster, bland fields that all look the same, the field is too small for my liking, and no button mapping (I keep pressing pass to shoot)
Man I miss Mario Sports Mix
Kinda glad people are getting fed up of this practice, hopefully Nintendo actually does something about it but only if we let our voices be heard and vote with our wallet.
First Next Level Games project after the Nintendo acquisition. This sure does give me hope for the future… hopefully this dumb free update model is just something they follow for multiplayer games and the single-player games are actually satisfactory at launch, I think that’s been the case so far for most Switch games
We as the customers should use the feedback and telk Nintendo we don't want the free update nonsense.
If next level games make another single player game I doubt it'll be as bare bones as this. This issue seems to be exclusive to the sports games and not Nintendo as a whole.
@@somethin7020 Kirby Star Allies and Animal Crossing New Horizons also suffered from the "release now, update later" approach
Agreed with everything you pointed out, but the thing that killed it for my friends and I was that we couldn't have 4 people on the same team to play online battle cup. That was the whole reason we wanted to play, so we could play on the same team like pro clubs in fifa.
Nintendo has gotten so lazy with their sports games as a whole on the Switch. Instead of making a good game at launch they are experimenting and following the industry trend of release the game unfinished, add stuff later. It’s pathetic and sad
Without the drive to unlock things it's been very difficult to keep excited and wanting to play more. At the very least I'm happy the core experience (gameplay) is really good and fleshed out. So by the time this game finally has it's content I'm sure it will be a blast.
Played for a few hours on day one of purchase, then a few more on day two - Haven't touched it since. Not a lot to come back for really. Online is already full of try hards and the matches are more exhausting than fun.
It's weird how nowadays games are basically guaranteed to be released as a "live service" product. It will drop bare bones, as you said, and gradually bring out free post launch content that was probably mostly ready to go in with the full release game. I know not every game release is like this but over the past 3 years or so I've been noticing it a bit of a trend
U mean nintendo games. Xbox and playstation exclusives don't do this
Remember how many players were in Super Mario Baseball? That’s about what I expect for a game like this.
The DLC trailer: "We added Daisy and Shy Guy!"
Reality: "Ok fine have Daisy you fucking bastards, oh but by the way we are gutting half of the entire roster!"
Things I would change...
1. Patch out the Death Lob, but keep the titans chip.
2. Un-nerf Technique, un-nerf long shots, nerf uncharged shots, buff charged shots, nerf cross-shots, nerf interceptions, and buff tackles.
To clarify I would make it much easier to defend against cross-shots, while making charged shots more effective.
The best way to do this, is to change what tackles do. To put it simply I would either leave the stun duration alone, but I would also add A LOT of knockback to tackles! If I tackle someone with a charged tackle it should push them clear out of the goalie area.
3. Interceptions and items need a slight cooldown. I'm really tired of every match just devolving into item spam madness...especially in the galactic cups. (Because intercepting an interception from another interception which was its self an interception of one of Boom Boom's throw ins should not be a thing that happens every single round of a match, not even in the Chain Cup)
4. I would make it possible to turn off items and Hyper Strikes in club mode.
5. No more slow-mo on hyper strikes in Club mode, but items can still be put down (at least this has some semblance of strategy).
6. I would limit Boom Boom's throw ins to only that teams side of the court, because why the hell does he constantly throw it clear to the other side, when I have multiple eligible receivers near him. No seriously he is the goalie, the goalie is supposed to be on your team, not a third party. WTF?!
7. We need an absolutely MASSIVE buff to friendly AI, no seriously the AI is so bad, but only for your team. I know they "buffed" Boom Boom, but actually that just hurt it that much more, because it feels like ONLY the opposing goalie is better, and "Boom Boom diff" is an even bigger problem then ever before! Its not just the goalie either, every match in a cup battle feels like a constant 1 VS 9, and I think its even worse then before. Pre-patch AI behavior was bad, but post-patch I literally have had instances where CPUs just move around and nothing else.
8. Add more game modes, add a lot more gear sets, more characters, more stadiums, add button remapping, implement play invitations, add a spectator mode, add a story or campaign mode, make the visual assist mode a lot better, make the hyper strike bar easier to see, make the ball itself A LOT easier to see (maybe by bringing back its design from Charged), allow each member of a club to have 2 strikers each not just one (I mean if u can have 2 players each then why the fuck not), and add A LOT more incentives to either join or start a Strikers Club .
9. I would change how the CPU difficulty setting works, I would add a new "Brutal" difficulty to CPUs, but would also make "Hard" a bit easier. So, the new "Hard" CPUs would land between current Normal and Hard, while the "Brutal" difficulty would be slightly more difficult then the current "Hard" CPUs.
This is how I wish the game could be....instead of the absolute mess I am currently dealing with....would this fix all the issues…no, not even close, but it would b a good first step!!!
The only reason this is my "breaking point" is because this is the only game I was actually excited for. In all honesty, I knew it was gonna be a little boo boo when I saw the trailer, especially with the recent events, but I was just happy for another entry in strikers. I think many striker fans don't care about other sports, do I think that's where this entire mob came from. The other sports fans aren't as vocal or friends with their series. Golf just lacked content but I believe was given what was expected. Tennis was just happy they didn't get aces again. Baseball is still throbbing. But with this, after so many years, it's really lack luster. Tennis and golf were focused on mechanics, whereas strikers had mechanics yes, it's about the characters. The dry bones doing the worm to spooky dj scratches, the shy guy having a banger song and making funny faces, and the waluigi crotch w. I'm not gonna lie, I'm tired of Rosalina being put into everything. She's just space girl with no personality. I like her in Mario Galaxy, but she's like that in every game she gets shoved into. Sure it's cool animations for her but there's nothing to it. And this game shows that even more. In a series that gave many characters new and cool personalities, it's crazy that the one new comer this game gets is just made bland af. Her atmospheral kick is cool, but no personality to it. Even if it's just a little angry it would be fine. Shit like even folding her arms while waiting for the ball to come back would be personality enough.
I know this is a bit off-topic, but that's how a lot of people who awaited the remake of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl felt. After so many years all they got was an overly loyal game that refused to be greater than the original.
I really agree with Rosalina being shoved into every game possible. I've always regarded Rosalina as a more special character who should only appear in serious or important games (Like Smash Bros). Now Rosalina is in Mario Party Super Stars, eating a giant pizza on the floor alongside with Wario...
@@Super_Smash_Dude I feel the Pokemon comparison is reasonable, because the previous gens all got remakes and all that right? So it makes sense. Yeah Pauline would be a great choice and a wonderful opportunity to give her more personality. Although, Rosalina is rather bland in this game. They should've replaced Rosalina with Daisy. It's clear that Rosalina is not meant to be in every game.

@@skullerclawerbandicoot7966 Oh yeah I remember ILCA made the game. Pokemon Legends of Arceus was a pretty good game. It's a shame that Pokemon Diamond and Pearl remakes didn't turn out the best as it could've been. ILCA still did a decent job with the game though.
I got into the Mario sports games during GameCube into Wii generations and it felt like they were better at making these games more interesting then. Games like Mario tennis incorporated the wacky charm of Mario universe with mini games that took advantage of the IP in addition to a solid main game with interesting levels and sufficient content. Tennis Aces was really disappointing in this regard.
I’d argue the quality and the foundation of the gameplay is still there. But it’s hard to defend the $60 price tag on these recent releases when other games give you so much more more content for that.
It’s super fun, you just need three dedicated friends. It’s hard, and skill based at first but when you get everyone working together it feels very rewarding. The gear mechanics have a lot of depth when you get to use them. My only complaint would be lack of characters but they can add more later.
So Nintendo has been doing a thing with sports games that they sell them incomplete, Arms, Mario Ace, Mario Golf, Switch Sports etc. My biggest concern is they start doing it to all of there 1st party games. I really hope not but it seems to be there new norm.
I’m so glad Strikers is finally back, and I love everything about it so far… but there isn’t enough of it… and the fact we can’t play 4 friends online in the same team is ridiculous…
I can't see the online at all being stable with 8 players. Using Volleyball as a reference for how Nintendo can handle latency with faster paced games proves they still can't achieve that.
Daisy and Shy Guy are now playable as of the July 21 update. I hope we also get Diddy Kong, Bowser Jr., Petey Piranha and Super Team added soon.
Only thing I find odd about the game is the fact you cannot intercept lob passes though when playing against the cpu they’re able to intercept your lob passes. Lmk if you’ve figured out how but so far I haven’t been able to
