  • Larry Bird would average 40 ppg 13 rpg and 12 apg with today's rules I truly and realistically believe that...It's just nutts to me how people act like Bird wasn't the best small forward ever by far!!! Bird is underrated believe it or not...he was an innovator at the position in many ways but as the years go by people tend to forget or haven't done they're homework and just talk gibberish like Bird wouldn't average 35 pts 13 reb and 11 ast per game (year in year out) with these rules today come on....STOP IT! There are only a hand full of players today that would persevere under those old stressful conditions back when it was more for the love of the game than "The Bag" My Dudes Bird is a Basketball God of the highest power and don't you forget it!

Everyone talks about his MVP years and rightfully so, but for me, the true measure of Bird's greatness is this: in his last season, a 35-year-old Bird, with two reconstructed Achilles tendons and a back that required hospitalization and traction between games, averaged 20.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 6.8 assists and shot 47.8% from two, .40.6% from three, and 92.6% from the line in a league in which players actually played defense.

I've been watching the NBA since the early 70's and Larry Bird was the best I ever saw. As great as Dr. J and McAdoo and Cowens and Havilcek and Maravich were in the 70's, Bird was better. As good as Magic and Kareem and this sixers and the bad boys were in the 80's, Bird was better. The 90's is all Jordan with no real competition for him. Bird was someone who you wanted to go see play against the highest competition because win or loose, it was going to be a GREAT game. Bird rose the competition level against all the greats in the 80's and beat them. He is, in my opinion, the best all around player of all time.

Larry was a genius on the basketball court. The GOAT no doubts about it.

Larry Bird's Confidence was His Skill set, no doubt about it. And when he added that trash talk, that was his nail in the coffin. He was Definately a dominate Finisher.

Jordan was 0 and 6 against Larry Bird in the playoffs. Prime Larry Legend is the best player I ever saw.

Jordan was sooo happy that Bird retired , just couldn’t stand never winning against a player who played left handed because he was bored , and put up 28. When your life is on the line Larry Bird is the MAN🕊

I just dont think youngsters today, who never had the opportunity to watch Larry Bird live, year in and year out, doing the things he did, at a time when the game was much more physical, and the competition much tougher, can truly appreciate just how good he was thru clips and highlights. Oldsters like myself who were lucky enough to live thru the Golden Age of basketball (which I do believe the 80's & 90's were), know, without a doubt, he is absolutely one of the greats, and hands down, a better player than Lebron ever will be.

I agree man Bird was by far the best SF ever. People say Lebron is best player ever but he isn't even the best at his position. Bird did almost everything better than LeBron. Better shooter, better rebounder, better passer. As good of a defender too as Bird was a really good defender especially team defender and getting in passing lanes, double teams, etc. Bird one of the highest basketball IQs of all time and right there with guys like Jordan and Russell as far as the "obsession of winning" goes. Also obviously more clutch than Lebron but thats not some tiebreaker like Steven A talks about the "last two minutes". Bird is by far the superior player. To me Bird is the 2nd most disrespected and underrated player of all time by Modern Media and Fans behind Chamberlain.

People keep saying that Magic was a better passer than Bird, Magic was a point guard, was an incredible passer, Bird could Instantaneously Improvise passes from anywhere on the court like no one in History !!

The most basketball savvy player ever. I was a 76er fan back then. Watching in those days when it was the winner of the Philly Boston series to play the Lakers in the finals. That was basketball to me.
