  • Debates around our current challenges is politicised, reactionary, and short term. Most of our issues are interlinked and a broader social, historical and cultural perspective is needed along with the economics. The question is not so much about if we have the capability to address these challenges but the capacity to collectively work together to overcome them.
    About the Speaker:
Amin Hashwani is a businessman, social activist, an analyst and a poet. He has founded and continues to support initiatives in the field of health, education, women empowerment, disability, youth, culture and societal harmony. Internationally, he has promoted peace between nations and societies, organised cultural and media events, spoken at conferences, universities, think tanks, and the United Nations. He has an honorary Doctorate and was nominated as the 25 ‘Intelligent Optimists’ globally by Ode magazine.

Watching from India because we always get some critical analysis of our Country from your side. Beg to differ from Amin’s views where he justifies huge expenditure on your Military to counter perceived threat from India. In fact majority of Indians view Akhand Bharat a myth. Our PM is on record stating “we don’t want this to happen because India will then become a Muslim majority country “( with all the tragic consequences like your country is facing now). Pakistan is not of any relevance to us. Right now our priority is Development & to compete with China and play our rightful role in World affairs.

Most critics of India are from outside the country, apart from the opposition of course. These critics just do not know anything about the country. India has 1.4 billion people! About 20% are Muslims who generally happen to do much much better than the Muslims of Pakistan. There are no fights or killings of Sunni, Shia, Ahmadi, or other offshoots of Islam. Hindus per se are secular by build. If they had the same thought process of a Muslim, there wouldn't be any Muslims left in India. You see the point?

The speaker displays severe cognitive dissonance at every level.
    1. Anchoring the Pakistani identity to 1947. The degree of myopia and the sheer disregard of human history and cultural efflorescence in this assumption is stunning.
    2. The constant value judgement of India. Calling India a fascist state, while sitting in a country that actually cleansed its minorities and teaches Islamic Supremacism in its school textbooks. And, in the same breath, admiring another fascist state China that has also subjugated and cleansed every kind of identity that does not conform with the Han Chinese identity.
    3. He conveniently calls America and Israel as occupiers that would not allow the status quo to alter. All the while not questioning what Muslims are doing in the subcontinent. Did they migrate into the land? Were they refugees? No, the Muslims are occupiers of equal calibre, if not of a worse kind. The Jews and the Europeans in America at least brought their women with them, rather than ravaging the womenfolk of this traumatized land.
    4. "Scandinavian countries are more Islamic than Pakistan", "Women Rights are paramount in Islam", What??? And these statements were quoted several times unchallenged. Maybe that is the cool-aid they are selling in Pakistan. While the real Muslim in Scandinavia dreams of Sharia. Even the fountainhead of Islam, Saudi, is steadily moving away from this ideology.
These are some that I could retain.
But, overall his rationality is marred with blatant erroneous facts (some that Mr. Hoodbhoy rectified) and he is unwilling to even acknowledge them.
Maybe, in this time of sheer crisis one should remove themselves from their current identity and start looking the situation a priori. At least get down from the high horse and introspect humbly. But, it seems rock bottom is yet to arrive.
I was expecting some depth in the title "Back to our Roots". Apparently, these roots don't go very deep, neither does anyone want to explore them. However, the impending storm is an unprecedented one.
Feel sad for the powerless masses in this land. Unending suffering since a millennia and even more so within the last 75 years.
One should not be pessimistic, but this is a decade of consequence. I would advise the Indian Government to prepare the western border to deal with the refugee outflow when it happens.

One of his successes is bringing Jammu & Kashmir into the mainstream administrative realm. He has delivered. While it may not be palatable to some, the country at large accepts his delivery of what he promises. As they say, Modi hai to mumkin hai. People see this as happening. Pakistan is an Islamic republic. It's citizens are often asked not to question the country's working culture quoting reference of their religious scriptures. Common people do not know about their rights of equality, freedom, education, constitutional remedies, right against exploitation and freedom of speech granted in a true democracy. Otherwise, people would have reformed this country long back through effective criticism.

To be frank, I never found you as candid about your views on India Pakistan relationship as in this debate. I'm not impressed because I am an Indian and you spoke in favour of India. The thing is, you spoke truth and that too quite bluntly. Pakistan's biggest problem is its obsession with Islam coupled with its belief that all kafirs are inferior. It's okay to love your religion, but to have a feeling of contempt towards other religions is unacceptable. I ❤your statement that Hindus are aboriginals of this land. I pray that more sane voices like you come up in Pakistan; as that would go a long way in making your country prosperous and peaceful. Amen!!

It's a fallacy to say that Pakistan was ever an "Asian tiger". It never had a manufacturing or technology base compared to its size. It was always agrarian with large landholders - no land reform was ever undertaken. Instead, Pakistan always pushed it's strategic location right from Jinnah onwards for which It was richly but sporadically rewarded. Those rewards made it appear successful and prosperous. Right now, that income stream has dried up and you can see the results.
One more thing. Modi is a nationalist. He is not a populist. That's a completely incorrect reading. Indians vote for Modi because he performs and because he works hard for his country.

As to Pakistan at one time being considered the Asian Tiger was because as a willing client state of the US it received large amounts of funds which subsequently was misused and looted. Its original agricultural and industrial as well as educational base was run by Hindus, Sikhs and other minorities who were expelled at gunpoint so that the Muslims could loot their wealth.
This pretty much goes with Islamic thought in which living off other peoples wealth and hard work. is its underpinning.

1- have as big library as possible within your resources but make sure books from different countries and cultures are there. In the age of internet this is not impossible.
    2. Introduce debates within classes on regular basis but subjects and prospective should be different. For example one child should speak from Pak books other should Indian other form uk and usa etc etc.

India was in the same mess in 1991 ( economically) . Manmohan Singh and Prime Minister Rao, besides borrowing from IMF they actually took the humiliating step of pledging Indias Gold as security towards borrowings. Later this was redeemed. Pakistans redemption lies in trading directly with India. Instead of Indian onions being shipped to Dubai , then to Karachi and then being transported to Lahore does it not make sense to the Pakistani establishment to purchase through Wagah border? If they want Pakistan to survive its time they swallowed their ego and placed trade with India as 1st priority. However if they wish to go down the Black Hole its their call.

1st reason, One of the main fundamental reason why Pakistan going back ward - - Most of the people of Pakistan don't know that The colonial system of jaghirdar / jamindar was abolished during land reforms in former East Bengal / East Pakistan now (Bangladesh) in 1950,India in 1951 but still it is totally absence in Pakistan.Still Pakistan protecting the colonial system of jaghirdar and General's and estabilishmentse. When 1% ( jaghirdar and Punjabi Ruling Elite and Army Establishment ) of pakistan controls 99 % Pakistan then Nothing will be OK.That 1% was a gift of colonial British mindset.People of East Bengal realised that colonial mindset from 1st day but still people of Pakistan living in Denial mindset of colonialism.2ND Reason why Pakistan going back ward that is majority people of Pakistan are not serious about their country. 3rd reason is that people of Pakistan are sleeping last 75 years but don't want to wake up and those people of East Bengal did wake up and fight for equal rights & justice from first day to 1971 they're now one of the fastest growing nation in the world. 4th fundamental reasin pakistan and the people of pakistan systemetically destroy own identical roots , language ,traditional values and haritage of ethnecity and divercity. Another reason is that people of Pakistan always take short cut policy and their is no long-term futuristic Sustainable development program or plan for future - No Educational & Socioeconomical plan but still waiting for next Sultan or kind of Leader to Grow. Last 75 years Pakistan made a lollypop mindset in Pakistan that Pakistan and people of Pakistan are only greatest and Rightful but rest of the world fake & false . It's a multi organ failure of Pakistan. It's too late to make changes in course correction after 75 years in the DNA of Pakistan.it's a martial race nation and its not a country for the people but it's a country for jaghirdar and General's with colonial setup of mindset and still living in confused Denial mindset and conspiracy mentality and it became self-destructive nation. 1% ( jaghirdar and Punjabi Ruling Elite and Army Establishment ) use Pakistan as a strategic depth to sell own land and sovereignty to the foreign power and create different types of Armed Terror group for Billion USD and destroying neighbor's but when you keeping snake in your backyard and expect them to only bite your neighbor's but that snake bite you too . Pakistan became as a garrison state with colonial setup. Pakistan is an over Militarilise state. It's neither a Islamic nor a democratic country.Socially- Politically - Economically and Mentally Pakistan became Black Hole . If the Grass look greener on the other side of the world. Stop comparing, Stop complaining and Start watering the grass you are standing on.*PAKISTAN SE ZINDA BAAGH *🙈🙉🙊

I am Pakistani with Indian roots, I openly acknowledge vast majority of Pakistanis are indians as we have been part of india for centuries and our earlier forefathers were Hindus part of sanathan dharma. Many Pakistanis now openly recognise they don't have arab/turk/Persian lineage. There might be some exceptions but largely Pakistanis be it punjabis, sindhis and kashmiris were Hindus and are 100% Indian.
Take me for example, my father side are Rajput bhutta who are Suryavanshi rajputs who have lineage going back to house of holy Rama and seeta devi. Bhutta was one of the sons of mulraj Singh who headed chaulkhya Empire. The later generations were centred around jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Derawar Fort in rajasthan was built by Hindu Rajput bhutta leader. Done Bhuttas eventually shifted to sindh then many parts of punjab including multan where they accekted Islam via Sufi Saint Bahudeen zakaria in 12th century approx ( 800 years ago). My forefathers settled down in small city called Pakpattan.
My mother side is kashmiri butt also known as Bhat / bhatt/ Bhatta. As you know kashmiriys were Hindu saraswati brahmins pandits who lived around saraswati river region and later shifted towards kashmir valley. Kashmiris accepted Islam approx 500 years ago. My mother side kashmiris shifted from jammu & kashmir to lahore around 18th century and have been in lahore since then where they lost kashmiri language and developed speaking punjabi and urdu languages.
Many Pakistanis are waking up from slumber thanks to awareness via social media documentaries and their own desire for independent researches and studies to define their identity. One day very soon majority Pakistanis will openly accept they identity is only Indian and that will ultimate be the ice breaker to peace with our motherland India and perhaps reunification with India as it was pre partition 1947. I prefer bring part if United india then that of a artificial state called Pakistan.

He didnt provide any example of laws in India that implemented currently that decreased secularism. Secularism in India has increased - article 370 gone, triple talak gone, halala gone, Jizya for Hajj gone etc. If he want to say that liberalism has impacted then that is true to some extend but then again you got some LGBTA rights. Democratic institutions and accountability is much stronger now.
Sending terrorist in India or killing non-Muslims is not the way to show friendship.

Religious identity is local identity; I live in USA, I am an American. When I was in India, I was Indian. Religion can’t be or should not be core Identity.

Yes mam religion is not identified but I think nation is also not identification..

I think ur always identity is indian becoz
Skin color, culture , language kill etc..
Also check the DNA of blood...
