Do all the edges on the bottom need to be touching/flat against the ground for the sand not to escape? I know you staple that black cloth to the edges inside but do you think that would tear over time if there are a few 1-2” gaps around the edges at the bottom? Like I’d imaging over time the sand would want to work its way out of those gaps and the only thing preventing it would be the clothe right? I’m thinking of packing dirt/mud around the edges to seal those gaps but it’s on my grass and that’d make it look really ugly. Any suggestions?

All edges do need to be level or sunk in the ground. My backyard was a bit out of level so I dug down into the grass a little to ensure the sand couldn't escape. The fabric will help though!

@@thirdstallwoodworking ended up using some small pebbles/gravel for the base and it works like a charm! Didn’t even have to level the ground that great.

I’m going to do something similar. Can I use pressure treated decking?

Yeah for sure. I built a matching playset out of PT. My recommendation is to let it dry as much as possible before using screws or it may crack/split down the road. Wait to stain it, I left mine all summer before putting the stain on and it has held up well for three years without needing to restain.
