I wish that I had done more of my own research when our Chihuahua was diagnosed with CHF. We relied on our vets advice. She was on furosemide and vitmeden. She didn’t have any symptoms other than after 3 weeks when she had a hacking cough for less than a minute, followed by rapid breathing. This happened three times and each time we got her to the vet to be told that there were no signs of fluid in her chest. She was back to normal within an hour each time. On the third visit with the same symptoms they scanned her to find excessive fluid in her lungs and the oxygen and additional furosemide they gave her didn’t work. She was only days away from seeing a cardiologist. I’m devastated that we lost her this way and can’t understand why she got so bad so quickly in the end. She was still full of energy, she didn’t have a persistent cough and she really seemed fine otherwise. I wish I had some answers as to why this happened.

My 14 year old just passed in June 2019 from chf. I gave him Co Q 10 , they love the taste .. He also took a calcium channel blocker and lasix . I felt it was time and when the vet showed me his x rays, I knew it was time, he had no more room to breathe. He lived 3 years after being diagnosed with chf. I miss him so much and still cry every day. Lost my other dog to Diabetes 3 years before, I've been through a lot of grief lately. I don't get over losing my furbabies, ever. I wish I had known about cbd oil sooner, I was getting ready to purchase him some, but by then , it was too late.

I know. If only I knew about CBD for my sister‘s dog that died a month ago, maybe you could help with her seizures. Although Shellie had seizures the day she passed, or better they decided to put her to sleep. My sister just didn’t want her to suffer and she did live long, right terrier 17.5 years old. The reason I’m looking into CBD oil and looking into this video is because my dog of 14-15 years has heart condition, allegedly kidney issues, and hypoparathyroidism, which I fixed her calcium and vitamin D. I gave her powdered egg shower and prescription vitamin D for that. I could be talking on and on about a lot, about the reasons I decided to start fitting what the vet recommended, hills science diet, because of her kidney issues, but ever since she got a lump in her mouth and that is almost certainly cancer, I just couldn’t bring myself to give her this process food filled with ingredients that I don’t think we’re good her, especially corn, GMO corn. I never used to be neurotic about GMO and other things, but do yourself one favor, One thing that help me transition to fresh food, although I’m still trying to figure out the balance of ingredients, search on CZcams Dr. Becker and how she explains why you’re off your diet is important and most importantly her take on the pet food industry. Whether they know it or not, basically the food we’ve been giving them is bad. Even the best quality of foods. All the processing, the heat all these things, may not only because in your dogs cancer, and we all know how many dogs have cases of cancer, and diabetes… Basically one of the things she says is that these foods are highly caloric, filled with starchy ingredients, and dogs systems are not meant to process a lot of these ingredients that they put in these foods. And not enough meat. And that our dogs are certainly not omnivores, they are definitely carnivores. But he has a small amount of vegetables and fruits important to be added. It’s basically a lot a lot of information, and a lot of her videos are very long, but start looking into her and Rodney Habib, and they interview each other. There’s a black girl that I can’t remember the name because I just started watching her videos on nutrition, and her interview any other doctors. Because my dog has cancer I’m not doing raw, but I also transition my other two dogs away from kibbles and into cooked foods.

The other component is getting your dog on a sodium free diet. That means no added salt. If you read the ingredients on dog food labels there is at least one type of salt/sodium. This isn't acceptable. I did my research and the only commercial dog food I found was Orijen and Arcana dry kibble. (Their canned is absolutely loaded with salt!) So what I did was begin making homemade dog food as the topper for the kibble. I mixed beef or chicken with cooked apples, just a bit of sweet potatoes, cooked carrots.. I didn't get fancy with the homemade bc the Orijen is so packed with amazing nutrients. I pureed it bc it goes further. Also I used organic meat without added sodium. Yes esp chicken has been injected with sodium to make it look larger. I always boiled the meat too.
Anyway my dog Milo (jackhuahua) was diagnosed at 8 yrs old and the vet gave him 3 yrs MAX. Well we beat those odds! He lived to 19!! He had a very active routine too. We went on a nice walk 2x / day. And when he got tired, I'd put him in the doggie stroller I took with us. He was also on the "big 3" lasix enalapril pimobendan. But I am convinced that his diet is what kept him healthy for so long. My sister tried this with her dog and got the same results. RIP Milo Dec 8 2016 :(
    I miss him tremendously

We have a little 9 year old Yorki/Maltese crossbreed (Morkie) who means the world to us. A heart murmur was discovered this spring. From there, we went to a cardiology appointment and learned she has degenerative valve disease and will face CHF. She is on Stage B2. The cardiologist prescribed Pimobendan and it seemed to cause all of the problems it was meant to prevent. We are at a loss about what to do. We were told that Pimobendan keeps dogs from progressing into CHF phase. Yesterday I stopped by our local vet which advised to check out holistic health medicines for her.

Dr Jones, I cannot thank you enough for this valuable information! I rescued two small dogs both with heart murmurs. Now one of them, a Malti-Poo has started coughing - sounds like Kennel cough. I cannot afford heart medication at present. But I have some CBD oil I bought a while back. I also have Co-Q10 and can buy the Dandelion extract or add the leaves to his homemade stew. This should alleviate his coughing and make heart stronger. I walk both my small dogs 1-2 miles daily going at their pace and they are strong and robust in muscles, and eat an excellent variety of homemade foods + kibbles. But they are both 14 yrs old and were neglected prior to my getting them, and products of puppy mills, so this is expected. I am very grateful for this video as it will improve my dog's health hopefully. If it does not, I will see the vet and put him on drugs. Many thanks!

Your model is ADORABLE!! I love him!
Edit: I came here because over a year ago my 13 year old dog Frank was diagnosed with a grade 1 murmur. The vet also claimed they believed my 9 year old dog Lucy had cushings. I opted to stay as natural as possible. First and foremost to not put them through unnecessary stress. I took them completely off kibble and put them back on a raw diet. I began adding supplements to their food two of those being CBD and Dandelion root. I did this primarily because I was told per Lucy's blood draw that she was "going through menopause" on top of "likely cushings". For Frank, I made sure he was getting plenty of methionine/cysteine in his diet to create adequate levels of Taurine. For many years I had them on a grain free diet so they may have had issues with improper levels of key nutrients as a result. Personal thought is grain free isn't the problem but the legumes are (which are used as a binding agent for grain free kibble). A binding agent is not needed in a non-kibble grain free diet (i.e. raw, home-made cooked, etc.).
The cbd was to help with mood stabilization for Lucy's "menopause" and the dandelion was to support her liver in case of early cushings (which I still don't believe she has). Just last week, I took a break from adding those two things to their meals. The result was astonishing. Frank's cough (the vet said was from heart disease) had returned. I will be adding the two supplements back in and editing this commenting with the result. I feel that this backs the thoughts on these two aiding in heart disease with dogs.
Thank you Dr. Jones for all you do. I hope you know the countless lives you enrich on a daily basis. Wishing you many blessings!!!

Thank you so much, Doc. Our 15yo schnoodle just got diagnosed with heart murmur and the pharma regime is expensive, more than we can handle over time. We spend a lot more on vet care than we spend on medical care for ourselves, because I've been studying and relying on herbal and other alternative medicines, along with diet and decent exercise, for most of my adult life. It is a huge blessing to be able to extend my preferred treatment modalities to my animal companions.

    • @victoriabaker4400

@@RosieMontoya Hi. We have the CoQ10, the CBD, and Dandelion leaf tincture for the heart issue, as outlined in the doc's video here. Not yet only using natural for the heart issues. The diagnosis is brand new and I'm wanting to wait until he's stabilized. If we'd started a few months ago when this cough first started to develop (it sounds like he's trying to cough up a hairball, and I'm ashamed to say I didn't take it seriously), the natural stuff would have been easy to use exclusively. At this point, I'm struggling about taking him off the pharmaceuticals. Actually, I appreciate your inquiry because it's made me realize that we can easily just adjust the meds if needed, and I need to stop being captive to my fears. See, even someone dedicated to natural healing for 40+ years can still struggle.

Perfect timing, Dr. Jones! My boy is on those plus enapril and thyroid. Hate all the meds but he is almost 17 so he's had a wonderful life and we cherish him! We were wondering about whether the CBC would help and if it could be used with those meds so Thank you! He's still going for his little walks and eating good so good quality of life but he is starting to get anxious when we leave. We give our other boy CBC for his anxiety so I will try with him! Thanks again!

My beloved cocker spaniel died of heart failure back in March. She's started coughing and in 3 weeks she was dead. Her 1st diagnoses was for kennel cough which she's given antibiotics. After a week with no improvement she had an xray it showed her lungs packed with fluids and a large heart. She started with diuretics immediately but it was too late. She died on the same night it's horrendous. I never felt so heartbroken like that before. Thanks for the wonderful eye opening video. I just found out my new adopted dog has a heart murmur so I'm taking all the precautions I possibly can.

Ok, so I rarely comment on videos but let me tell you, you saved my a$$! My boy Koda is a king charles spaniel. He will be 15 this February. He has been living with a murmur for the past couple years. He takes vetmedin enaprapil and Lasix. He ran out of his Lasix right after we moved. Set up an appointment with the new vet but the old vet would not renew because he was one week past his 1 year! Literally one week. Anyway it was so clear that Koda needed the Lasix coughing all the time and hard bloated belly. I quickly looked up what I could do in the interim and found you!!!! I ordered the liquid dandelion leaf on Amazon for like 20 bucks and after 3 or four doses over the last two days his belly is soft again and he is not coughing at all! Not at all!!!!! Thank you so much for this. This is so good for people like me who have the diagnosis already but need some alternatives! You are my new hero!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

    My buddy is ill.
He's a little old, 12 years old now almost 13, he's been in the family since I was in junior high school....
He has been restless for a few months now and has had breathing problems and what seemed to be a brief collapse.
I took him to the vet for a routine checkup and he confirmed a strong heart murmur, as well as possible entherite or colon cancer... He said that the main problem is the second that the heart can wait and scheduled an x-ray and ecg for next month...but for the agitation I forgot to tell him about the episode in which he had a fainting spell...
I read that dogs affected by CHF (congestive heart failure) have very low life expectancy max 6 months 1 year ...
    Besides the possible tumor...
I'm very afraid of losing him, it's funny that at the beginning I hated him, I didn't want him, then he broke into my heart, with those beady eyes and the big nose, so cheerful and hyperactive, he jumped around like a kangaroo, he did so many pranks when he was young... I'm almost addicted to him, he's the only real friend, a part of my soul... I regret having neglected him several years ago, too busy with teenage dramas.
How do you handle loss? I'm not capable, I hate even more the fact that in time I will forget him... as if he never existed. The house will be so cold and empty...and I'll get used to it like nothing happened.

Thanks for sharing this! Our dog recently had an episode of collapse and issues breathing and we have been struggling to figure out what is actually going on with her. She does not have a heart murmur. The emerge we went to gave us Furosemide and Pimobendan. Our regular vet examined her after the incident and could not determine that anything was wrong with her. About a week later she had another episode where she was having issues breathing on the inhale. We had an in-home vet come and do an assessment on her and she prescribed Prednisone and Cerenia. After a week of being on all 4 medications (oh and I forgot to mention, our pup has low thyroid and is taking Laventa 0.025mL twice daily before meals) we noticed that she was having an easier time breathing at night, which was good, but upon withholding the regular dose of the heart medications (furosemide and pimobendan) she did seem to have some struggle breathing, so we now have to take her for an ultrasound to determine if we are treating an upper respiratory disease or a heart disease. Our emerge visit, her medications, and the cost to see our vet and an in-home vet has far surpassed the cost of our rent for one month. Now our vet is saying that she may have Pulmonary Hypertension, which I guess is better than CHF in terms of quality of life, but it has been a bumpy ride. In 2017 she started to lose her coat and it wasn't until 2019 that she was put on thyroid medication to help with the treatment of this. In the meantime, we tried a number of the foods on the list of dog foods that are associated with heart failure (Zignature's kangaroo formula to be specific) to try and confirm if it was an allergy or alopecia-X. When she was a puppy we fed her Fromm almost exclusively, so we can't help but feel responsible. She's only 6.5 years old, I just want her to be well. Our other pup has been struggling with anxiety so we happened to have some CBD dog treats in the house (they didn't work for our boy's anxiety, his compulsive licking is made worse by it) and I started giving these to her when I noticed they would help her calm down at night. Just wish I had a magic wand that would give me all the money required to treat our girl and get this all sorted out.
