      Dick comment ! I’ve seen Seth play several times over 10 years and he is as good as he was all those years ago !

      @@danprice8398 fair enough,but him stating he's some form of ever changing expanding and fluid dj is nonsense, scroll for 1 hour on beatport you'll find his playlist, novelty dj.

    Yup, put ego aside. Play for the crowd and not your buddies. Give it your own twist. Don't worry about how cool you look. Don't be a diva. Smile

      sure ... be a sell out and call it "playing for the people"
      i always went to clubs and when some new stuff came up, a dj with a certain style or whatever i got lost in it.
      fck what the mainstream wants to hear cause' there won't be any progress if you do the jukebox for the audience.

    I’ve heard this dude at least 50 times since 2011. He’s hit the spot only two times from a musically perspective (alignment with the type of genre/party/crowd). Indeed he was mostly Fdup and couldn’t care less.

      Well at least someone is saying it how it is. To be honest, I think you can tell how big his ego is from the way he carrys on in the booth

    Pandering to the masses seems like a slippery slope. Works for some. Others may want to push boundaries.

      I mean you can't push boundaries if you can't make money. Can't make money unless you pander (within reason).

    I totally agree. But it would be nice to ask the same question about producing music instead of DJing. In my personal experience, in my 20 I was way more creative than today even if I was constantly fucked up. I mean, today I can start/finish a track within 24 hours (including mixing and mastering) but I feel like my skills and targets rule over my creativity. Maybe I will experience again my 90s flux when I will retire 😃

    Some bull shit in this interview. There isn't an arrogance to playing what you play. That is like stating that Metallica are arrogant for not playing pop indie rock. What he's saying is 'I play a wider range of music to get more gigs' and that's fine but don't berate the DJ's that stay true to their style as arrogance, that's a dick thing to say.

    • @chattyman4740
      @chattyman4740 Před 5 měsíci +2

      I think he means the great djs are great at playing certain genres, the legendary djs, the top top top "god tier", the people the djs look/looked up to, the frankie knuckles, Larry levan, Alfredo, the people always put in the top 10 of all time, they can/could just read a room and play tunes that fit that audience - whilst not compromising on quality. It's really hard to be a great selecta, much harder than mixing these days with modern tech. Metallica play metal for metal fans, it would be arrogance for them to expect to play Master of Puppets at Tomorrowland the same way it's arrogent of Seth to take £25k from a corporate gig and play a load of Berghain type thumping racket. Although that would be better than literally anything that's on at Tomorrowland!

      @@chattyman4740 There's 'bandwidth' within a genre I understand but he meant it how he said it. The truth is Seth is getting older, playing more handbag as that's what's more popular and palatable & commercial can't fault for a professional move as he admits. However, underground he is not, that's gone for him...

    dude says in one breath that it's arrogant to have your own style, then in the next breath says he thinks he is getting to the point in his career of making real art. When has art ever been spineless pandering to the masses? 😂

      @mrme8732 Před 5 měsíci +1

      you can have your own style and play to satisfy your crowd and also make each set creative and unique
      these things aren't exclusive, and perhaps its the ability to combine these seamlessly that make a successful dj like Seth

    Djs ain't artists, just record jugglers; grab a trumpet and try to play some music with that...:) good luck!

    • @gbrl_cyber
      @gbrl_cyber Před 4 měsíci +1

      yeah ... i don't think ppl like you go to clubs or are part of the scene really.
      Dj's are Artists (at least should be) and not necessarily musicians even if they produce tracks themselves.
      Especially since the record digging era emerged it's going through back catalogues of labels, digging through endless tracks and find your own style and even push boundaries. I love this shit so much.
      What do you do? Hatin on the electronic music scene and leaving comments ... why? if you're not into this just leave us alone and go listen to some jazz records or whatever satisfies your needs. no offense tho'
