The Overland | Adelaide to Melbourne on Australia's Oldest Interstate Passenger Train - Full Review

- Join Aussie JetSetter on my longest train journey undertaken yet as I embark on The Overland between Adelaide and Melbourne which is Australia's oldest continually running interstate passenger train service which has operated for over 135 years! Over the course of nearly 12 hours and travelling 828 kilometres on The Overland between the capitals of South Australia and Victoria which is operated by Journey Beyond I will review the Red Standard Class of service on board and how it compares to Red Premium. Secondly, I offer the most in-detail showcase of varied and changing scenery that you will see on this full day adventure through Australia's South East and offer commentary about some of the towns, cities and regions that the Overland traverses through!

Welcome to this evenings’s Overland train experience and review! I will be following the comments in real time over the next hour or so in lure of an offical premier so do leave your comments down below on your thoughts on the Overland and I’ll be sure to respond :)
It’s so annoying that this train is so infrequent! It has potential but it’s a bit of a disservice to call it public transportation when it doesn’t run daily.
Also exclusive trains from Melbourne to Horsham / dimboola / Nhill should be reinstated so the north western part of Victoria can be served like the swan hill, Echuca, Albury, Shepparton and Bairnsdale lines are served. And coaches from close towns to be connected to the nearest station along the route.
I agree twice weekly only in each direction I believe. Apparently the pandemic nearly ended the service altogether - so infrequent really had to plan all my other travel movements around this train! It be great if it run daily back to back this mean you would have both day time and overnight services giving people choice. Reckon the demand for intercity trains has never been higher in Australia with cost of living crisis! Reality is this service is privately run so they can’t just cop huge losses paid for by the taxpayer!
Me being an little twit by thinking that you rode the Indian Pacific because of the thumbnail with the "Pacific National" train carriage 😅
The trusty Pacific National locomotive is the backbone of the Australian railways it hauls everything form the Indian Pacific (and indeed the Overland) to all your freight trains across the Trans Australian Railway and up at the mines!
