      Thanks. The last comment I got on this old video was some dingus whining about how my camera shook around too much. It was an old camera from 10 years ago or so and he was complaining about the quality.

    I noticed you looked interested in that display turntable when you picked it up. Man that must have been so much fun. Thanks for taking the time to post this. I also heard you say you had been carrying the camera all day. I am sure many of the people who watch your videos really appreciate you taking this video, like all of your videos. Thanks so much for posting these. They are a lot of fun to watch.

    Yes, the model train company. I was trying to remember where Kato was located when I was writing the first post. I guess geographically an open house was out of the question, lol. What is your primary modeling interests? Mine is military armor, some military planes, N scale model trains, etc.
    Thanks for sharing the video, appreciate it, nice to see the tour, going to watch your other video next.

    Well, they didn't want any filming in the graphic design room or in the factory downstairs. I started recording the graphic designer guy using his computer before I saw the sign about no cameras, so I cut that part out. I asked permission to film the artist drawing on the aisle. The factory downstairs was very impressive. The models are designed on a computer, and parts are precisely cut out using X, Y, and Z coordinates. The machine could make anything, I bet.

    all those armor kits at the 10:00 mark. it's almost impossible to find any hobby store in my city in Florida with any in stock im stuck ordering via amazon. I would have went crazy. they literally have everything. every paint, wash, tool, accessory, model. omg I just...I just. I need a towel ;-)

      I suffer the same fate, Johnny. I have to drive nearly 50 miles to the north on I-95 to find a good hobby shop, Michael's and Hobby Lobby can not hold a candle in the wind to Riverside Hobbies in Sebastian! It's worth the trip because there is NOTHING in the south lands.

      @stevethefishdotnet  Před 4 lety +1

      Ha! Yes, I live in Japan, so at least I can pronounce Tamiya correctly. I sort of cringe when I hear people mispronounce it all the time.

    • @ian-read
      @ian-read Před 4 lety

      stevethefishdotnet yeah it makes me cringe too, I hate it in fact! I watch a lot of modelling channels and so many guys get it wrong. Many openly admit they simply don't care! I've been rewatching all your hobby shop visits recently as it really takes me back to my childhood when we had some great, well stocked model shops in the U.K. All seem to be sadly gone now😭. Thanks for the great channel.

    • @stevethefishdotnet
      @stevethefishdotnet  Před 4 lety +1

      I appreciate the kind feedback. Sometimes I get the worst feedback on these types of videos, with nitpicking jerks getting angry apparently because I did not upload a 5 hour video cataloging the store's entire inventory. They're a bunch of self-entitled buffoons and sometimes I have to just delete their comments. I have the opportunity to do another one of these videos for a model shop in Fujioka. I have had a few very long conversations with the owner and he is welcome to me doing a video of his store. I just don't make it down there very often.

    • @ian-read
      @ian-read Před 4 lety

      stevethefishdotnet I'll certainly keep my eyes open for that possible future video, I'm looking forward to it. It's great that you can chat to the owner at length, I'm guessing your Japanese must be pretty fluent by now? I vaguely remember you say you're an English teacher in one of your videos (sorry if I've got that wrong), did you move there for work, family/wife, or just for the love of the hobby? (cheap paint!!!) Thanks again for the videos, I'll stop bothering you now!

    • @stevethefishdotnet
      @stevethefishdotnet  Před 4 lety +1

      No, feel free to bother me. I've become friends with people who've "bothered" me. I wouldn't have made this channel if I didn't like interacting with other hobby enthusiasts. To answer your question as to why I moved to Japan, it's all of the above. My wife and I weren't happy living in America and wanted to move back to Japan. After our house was broken into and the police couldn't be bothered to even look into it, that was the last straw. I am an English teacher. I worked at Aoshima for about 7 months but that's a long story. I like the company, but I'm glad I'm not there anymore. That was 3 years ago, and my Japanese study has stagnated since then. I am nowhere near fluent, but I can get by better than most.

      sad but true. My generation 18-30. or millennial as they call us. I exclude myself being raised by my grandparents i was taught better. Anyways this generation does not have the intellectual means or the pride in craftsmanship to take sprues and turn them into master works of art. Much less just assemble them. There are exceptions mind you. This is the real reason though.

    Kato? The model railroad company? I saw a lot of model railroad exhibits at the Shizuoka Hobby Show. Kato is based in Tokyo and Saitama-ken. They may have been at the Shizuoka Hobby Show, but I don't know. Tamiya is just down the street from where the Shizuoka Hobby Show was located.

    So I see that you did visit the mothership. Quick question: When walking through the museum, and the area where the TamiyaCon winners were, I saw Dale King's Porsche, and Brian Jocelyn's USS Missouri, but I didn't see the F-16CJ I was looking for. Do you happen to remember if it was there anywhere?

  • @straightto8

    You must not be much into R/C? Some of those models would have stopped an R/C collector in their tracks and you breezed by them pretty quick. ;)

    • @stevethefishdotnet
      @stevethefishdotnet  Před 10 lety +7

      You are correct. I've never cared for R/C, and I always skip past this as well as airsoft gun replicas at the stores I visit. I can't pretend to be everything for everybody. I just point my camera at what interests me and everyone is invited along for the ride.
