so lets put on our classics and we’ll have a little dance shall we
Reeboks that is 😉
If you put the playback speed up with this one it really helps.
X 1.75 is perfect 👌 thanks 👍
@@spike1976 haha no probs mate. Started doing this recently as I seem to have a backlog of podcasts and stuff I watch and it really helps to get through them.
🤣
@@oil_dzn hope it helped
“A grand don’t come for free” is a brilliant album. Genius from Mike Skinner.
A story, from start to finish. Told and felt by many young fellas back in the day. (myself included)!
I can see why you don't see many interviews with him, I was looking forward to this but damn 😴 im struggling to stay engaged with this one.
Yeah I see where your coming from but I think in this case it's almost ramblings of a genius. This is how his mind works however, im similar in the sense that as I try to answer and show respect to the question my mind pops off with random cavities to the initial question which means sometimes the way I convey over doesn't translate well but if you listen carefully there are gold nuggets in there but it can appear an incoherent madman ramblings. Remember there is a fine between genuis and madness.
The lack of eye contact is quite alarming.
Pirete material ❤❤❤❤
Yeah felt the same about this one. Top guy and genius but just doesn’t come across well when being asked questions.
Felt the same. Pretty boring. Turned off after 20 mins
Top class getting Mike skinner on. I’m 43 so grew up wrecked in random houses listening to his stuff.
He was a genius in that he captured the culture at that time and as you say James, was unique.
👍🏼
@@JamesEnglishcan I come on the podcast? Ill help people in the same boat as me ..
The most important man in my life. I genuinely don't know who I might have been had I not been able to grow along side Mikes albums. You saved my life on more than one occasion, our generations philosopher ( he said they'd play it in museums, didn't he!) . Thank you Mike.
Unfortunately I have a very strong character and will. Jesus himself wasn't saving me. Still after a 20 year battle with addiction I'm basically back to me. That strong will came in very handy indeed. My best and worst point. I don't understand giving up.
This episode really shows James' skills as an interviewer. He gave Mike as much space as he needed to let his thoughts spill out. I've never heard Mike interviewed in the long format before and it's obvious he's an eloquent speaker and deep thinker. A real revelation! Thanks James and the team for one of your best podcasts so far. Happy New Year!
Thank you
What a boring podcast.I fell asleep and when I woke this bore was still on. Wow what a boring person.Long time since I heard such a bore.
Giz a job ?go on go on i can do that! 😅🎹🎸 🥁 🪘 🎙 🔊!! 🇬🇧 ⚽️ 🥅!
Geezers on es and first timers, kids on whizz, darlings on Charlie, all come together for this party ❤
Them words were classics. Along with, "imagine world leaders on pills, the morning after always causing disaster". Lyrical genius
"Feel the pressure your back's against the wall, love is gaining on you, you're just about to fall.
If you're afraid to love afraid to take a chance, you better hide your feelings, get out while you can.
Cause you'll be going loco down in Acapulco, if you stay too long
Yes, you'll be going loco down in Acapulco, the magic down there is so strong"
Mike is a genius musically. I’m a massive fan and I know they’ll be people in this comment thread. Who like me have had his work throughout their lives. His music resonates with so many ups and downs in my life. Mike you’re a genius. If people don’t get the interview I get it, but for his fan base. It’s been a pleasure Mike. What a talent and what a man. The edge of a cliff 🎵 life saver ❤️
He my dad
Watching on x2 speed and still wanting him to hurry the fuck up! Lol😂
10 minutes in and I have to say I was really looking forward to this one, but I'm struggling to stay engaged
He thinks before he speaks. He doesn't waste words. Its a forgotten art. Be patient and you will watch an interesting person express his thoughts, however slow they may come across.
Go on mike! People with their negative comments should keep to themselves. Your an absolute legend and pioneeer to the scene. You have proved to not change yourself for nobody which is massive, your a true one. Independent artist out there putting some absolute bangers out for the masses you done us all proud big up ya self!!! ❤🎉
Why should they keep it to themselves? Opinions are opinions good and bad and there is nothing to say you can't offer a negative opinion. Stop being a prick....prick

Absolute clown 😂 what are people not allowed an opinion now ? Div kid
Thanks Tom.
@@Tom-uv7ry
All the negative Nellie’s can’t enjoy unless they’re watching Jeremy Kyle or Kilroy
Absolute hero of a bloke! What an amazing start to 2024, he made banger, after banger, and I've just downloaded the Streets albums on Spotify for the gym 💪
The weak become heros & the stars aline
Love Mike skinner. You just never hear enough about how he makes his music. Especially the early stuff. Watched so many interviews of his and you never hear him talk about how he made “it’s too late, weak become heroes, Turn the page” I wanna hear where he got his samples from. Where he learned how to mix and master and so on…….still, I enjoyed it. He just never talks enough about his beat making process
I recommend listening to this at 1.5X or even 2X the speed. 👍👍
😂 that's hilarious.. its like it's normal speed
I'm completely mesmerised with this interview!! Listening to a genuinely humble man, trying to get us all onto his level of thinking, which i think is impossible because this is a genius at work!! Much love, Mike. Thanks, james, for this upload. This is my 3rd time watching it today ❤
Brilliant interview and well done for letting Mike answer without jumping in to fill the space or put answers to him.
Genius of a man and great interviewing you can add this to one of the few podcasts you mentioned you nailed ❤
Edge of a cliff is my favourite Streets song 🎉
I love these interviews. This is up there with your best ones for me. I find Mike really interesting being a musician myself. How he talks openly about himself is great 👍🏻
I saw The Streets in November - they’ve never been a favourite of mine but went with my fella. AMAZING gig!!! Really engages with the crowd and puts on a show 🎉
Empty cans is such a tune man, but the streets have always had a solid place in my music collection.
Perfect start to the new year! Mike & Co's lyrics, music saved my life.
Had the pleasure of seeing him 5 times on tour this year, long time fan. Instead of listening with and hangover I will listen whilst doing cardio. 2024 will be a good one 😊
👍🏼
Youve killed it getting Mike on James! look forward to watching this!!! :)
Absolutely love all y’all episodes totally luv Mike. With all respect I can see what you say about Artists having ticks & just different auras. They do say there’s a fine line between madness and greatness
Mike is a hero of mine definitely on the greatness side💕♾💕🇸🇪
Mike is the total opposite of how I expected him to be... Got the impression he didn't want to talk about certain things but fair play it's his life. Good interview, reckon you needed a lie down after this one 🙏
Mikes got a lot of Health issues. Has done from a kid
Personally I wish him all the best. People saying weird and stuff WELL we’re all a little weird in our own way. Hope he gets all good results he’s a great family man now. I really don’t know what half the folks were waiting for? Mike to pop eccys & be a million miles per hour
As the saying _goes never meet your heroes_
IF U can’t handle it 👈🏻 I added that piece 😂😘💁♀️💕♾💕🇸🇪🇸🇪🏆🏆
LOL IT WAS A TAD PAINFUL, HE SAID A LOT WITHOUT SAYING A LOT!

Original pirate material, your listening to the streets.. lock down your aerial
Streets. Not Street. Dummy
Around the hour mark gets real good. James I think this is the best one yet. Mike is a genius mind. Well done both.
Not one of you're most up beat guests, BUT what a legend man! Dry ya eyes mate!😂
Decent guest but wow james this highlighted your strength as an ever improving interviewer. You deserve all the success and recognition coming your way xxxx
Still listen to his original pirate material 🤣 seen him live twice met him once backstage. Absolute geezer and spent some off his time chatting to me. Cant wait for this to drop james lad 👍 smashing these pods mate. All the best for next year🎉
The best start to the new year this mate. Love Mike. Love the streets. Seen them in Liverpool again a few weeks back. Amazing as ever
Happy new year pal
Brilliant interview, thank you 🙏
He seems quite guarded and concentrated even, in his speech, maybe he’s on the spectrum..Can’t knock his song writing ability loved his lyrics … FULL CREDIT TO THE MAN ❤
I thought that too
Great interview as always James. Would love it if you would do a section on each interview where we can ask a couple of questions
Quality interview with Mike.😊Happy New year 2024🎉
Happy new year
Why won’t he answer your questions 😅
Quality I love the streets love Mike skinner. See them years ago at Brixton. Legend. James your channel is brilliant mate I listen/watch at work all the boys at work get involved.👍👍
Thanks brother
Happy new year love this keep up the good work

I was looking forward to this interview but with all due respect to mike skinner I iound this a very hard listen! I struggled through for 20mins but eventually had to give in 🤷♂️
Me and my friend over Christmas were discussing past flames and he literally said yeah she's fit but didn't she know it, that thrust me back in time.
Around the 1hr mark ia excellent. Really enjoyed the 2 of you bounce off each other. Some Golden nuggets dropped
Mike Skinner is an absolute LEGEND! He went to my secondary school!!!
Was that Bournville ? Trying to work it out deffo not shenley

Halfway through this, such a beautiful conversation. I love Mike, yes he speaks slow and is very deep but for me it's not a tough watch, its fantastic!
This is nearly as hard work as reading 3 pages of his book.. defo on the spectrum unless is all the weed he's smoked
He suffers with chronic fatigue
ABSOLUTE LEGEND

If you were still about, i'd ask you what I'm supposed to do now!!! Gets me every time. Mike gave me and my friends the best night of 2022 at Victorious. Much love x
And me mate, deep lyric. Have a good 2024👊🏻
Definitely one of life’s introverts. Felt like James was the one getting interviewed at one point. Interesting though 😊
Loved this interview
Really good
Mike is being himself on here
Not fake
I loved it ❤
I'm drying my eyes mate bored me to tears 😭
I grew up listening to the streets his music is my younger years every lyrics I could relate to back then and dry your eyes come out just as I broke up with my girlfriend many a tear shed to that song 😂 what an absolute legend Mike is
I use to listen to The Streets to go asleep in my teens, I put this on on my commute home and I had to turn it off after 20 minutes after finding myself falling asleep. I’ve never seen an interview with Mike, but he sounds exactly like his music. This was effectively a 1.5 hour Streets tune.
😂😅hahaha
Sounds nothing like his music. He is a bore and chats 💩to be honest and his book is a rant too. But his music is clever and a beat and not something that could put anyone to sleep even if you are been sarcastic
Mike talking about growing up, his dad and things like that is exactly how my life was growing up. My dad was 15 years older than my mum and it was good until he got too old and i was 38 or so and i ended up looking after him while holding down a 50 hour week at work and splitting up with my partner who i adored. I never keep trying and pushing forwards i still work a job i hate, i try to be good but every corner i turn something is trying to stop me in one way or another. at 40 i bought my dream car and i felt good, but now i keep getting fines for speeding which really impacts someones mental health to the point i think when my remaining family are gone i will just top myself. in the meantime i really love Mikes music and it lets me escape my sad existance.
Speeding? Not sure why you can’t control not speedy. Seems like self destruct more to me. Also think of that child that may step out in front of you😮 you are in charge of your life and to an extent other peoples lives
Original Pirate Material is always in rotation of albums I listern to
Also his autobiography is amazing especially his audiobook as he reads it hinself
That was very clever how Mike became James's therapist. Great conversation.
Can’t wait for this James ❤
❤️❤️
Mike Skinner is an absolute Legend! What a way to start the year, I cant wait to see what else you have in store for us this year James. Happy 2024 x
Happy new year ❤️
Jesus christ this is painful. What a morbid person he is. He just crushed all your dreams there james saying about being the best podcaster in the world. 😳
😂 hahaha it was a struggle man , I’m not into his music I was into the libertines, Strokes, the Coral at this period early 2000s but I thought this would be good , I struggled …..😂
@@samuraininjarockstar9355 same. I couldnt go past 20mins. James did outstanding as usual.
Not how I expected the interview but personally I still really enjoyed it, absolutely love Mike and always will, from what I remember 😅I had some great times with his music playing setting the mood for the night.
Thankyou for the good times Mike!
great stuff! many thanks
👍🏼
Mike was a pal of mine at West Heath junior’s …. Remember Mike, doing the moonwalk in the school hall for the class…. And having tons of micro machine cars at his house.
That first albums still SLAPS hard to my ears, talented guy!!!!
The only thing that slaps is your maw shes the biggestSlapper on the planet 😂 Happy new year 🖕
Love the music . Love the interview. So real at being human. . .

Nice one! I wish Mike made more content these days. Such an interesting guy. His music have helped me a ton during rough times.
James already has the No.1 podcast as far as I'm concerned, varied topics, varied guests no bullshit, what more can you ask for?
😮
Well done james this was like getting blood out of a stone
It is interesting watching his thought process.
its nice that he actually thinks about what he says before delivering it,top bloke@@harryevans1786
@@harryevans1786he seems like he has autism, i dont mean that in a offensive way he really does seem autistic
Well done James!!! I think he is quite a complex character and interesting. He is either a deep thinker or a slow thinker! But I loved how he was speaking to you and asking you questions!! The Streets for me one of the best gigs’s I have been too, Alexandra Palace …. brilliant memories ❤❤❤
I cannot wait for this.
🙌🏼🙌🏼
Grew up listening to Mike's tunes started off with Original Pirate Material and went from there, Mike speaks to me in his music! I can relate to lots of what he talks about. Great interview.
Fuck me, he’s difficult to follow. I feel like I understand his music now because he is just talking lol.. Jesus, love you James but this one was tough
Mans got the tism! Alot people basically saying it was boring , i was hooked. Great watch mate 👍👌
😂😂😂😂😂
On the morning of a Student's Union gig in 2009, I had to take The Streets' breakfast order. I asked Mike if he would like plenty of scrambled eggs, and plenty of fried tomato
He is so good , when he talks ypu feel like a tunes gonna drop it in behind his voice...
Mans a musical genius!
Original pirate material is THE best album ever made .
Steady on.
I shut the door behind me, huddled up in my coat.
Condensation floating off my breath, squinted out the sun.

Didn't talk about how the Streets started & how he shafted his pals (Crispy and Sean Kelly). I had the original OPM on tape from Crispy before it was released, and it was so much better with all of them
Oh wow
True story!, funny how he couldn’t remember how THE STREETS started!… big up sk propergeez and crispy!
Spot on about folk gravitating towards his music, it was so different. Genius really
I don't know who was interviewing who. Best ever. Well done Mr. English. 😀❤️
😂😂❤️
Spit it out mate !!
His music is superb and timeless and he is clearly a clued up bloke but this is in my top 3 of James English interviews that i have found myself shouting the above at the TV... interesting and also a hard watch.
Never Went To Church his best work for me very emotional track
Was one of the songs I chose for my dad’s funeral, as you say very emotional track.

Brilliant interview. Now I see why his first album was so fire. He digs deep
Great to hear from Mike Skinner what a legend. Slightly disappointed not to find out much about his personal life, maybe no questions about that is part of the agreement?
Mike is a legend and seems like a nice guy 👍
I definitely fell asleep 3 times watching this though
Looking forward to this but fuck lads I'm nearly asleep after 15 minutes. Liven up a bit Mike
Happy New Year Jamesy boy.
This should be changed to release on Xmas day this will be amazing
