This it what it was like when I was young. Crap suspension and brakes. Ignition systems with points and a condenser. Aluminum fenders that bent or fiberglass fenders that shattered. Handlebars that would bend if you looked at them wrong. Most tracks had no sound requirements, so it sounded great.

The word motocross bwas first invented in England but the Hare Scrambles (Jack Rabbit Runs) were first invented in California USA. That is a well established fact. Now when these two worlds met up collectively was around 1958-59 at what were labeled as GP or SX's. But those American Hare Scrambles were already running back in the 1880"s - 1960' and became launchers for the 1900 board track racing, horse track flat track racing and hill climbing.

No; motocross was born in both Great Britain and France in the early 1920's. In Britain, it was called "scrambles" and in France it was called "moto-cross". When world championship events started being scheduled after the end of WW2, the term "motocross" became the established term, although Britain continued to refer to their own events as "scrambles" for many years after. In America, "scrambles" would gain some popularity after WW2, but the term was used to describe various forms of off-road motorcycle racing. It wasn't until Edison Dye brought over World Champion Torsten Hallman in the late 60's that the term "motocross" really caught on, and began growing as a properly organized sport.
