  • Here's the sermon segment Meditations on WMAQ Channel 5 followed by the station sign-off and national anthem. Also preceeded by a WMAQ "The People's Court" bumper promo and ending with some static.
The pastor during Mediations is Rev. Richard (Dick) D. Ahlberg of the First Evangelical Free Church. Voiceover for the Station Sign-off is Ed Grennan. The theme music used for Meditations is a portion of "Last Dance" by Chuck Mangione.
Wow, who knew - 2-16-84 was Judgment Day? Doug Llewelyn said so!
This aired on local Chicago TV early Thursday, February 16th 1984 at 2:30am.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

It is a question. The singer is an American on a neutral British truce ship, watching the all-night battle on Fort McHenry during the war of 1812. In the morning he wants to know who won, if he still has a country.

this is from 1984, as the one NAOMI19631963 posted is apparently from 1963. So we don't know for sure if it is real or not.

@@cleverparrot32 It's not real, the colors in NAOMI's videos are all f*cked up, it's made to be what people think early 1960s color is like, maybe it would be accurate for a 1960's color TV, but from a reel? No, if it was from a reel the colors would be better than this video's national anthem.

    Very nice!
Plus, for the courtesy of you and others who view this, the words of our national anthem were penned by Francis Scott Key in the aftermath of the British attack on Fort McHenry during the War of 1812 upon seeing the American flag still waving over the fort that morning and below are Mr. Key's words if you want to read them while listening or sing along as you stand with your hand over your heart.
The anthem begins at the 3:55 mark.
    O say, can you see?
    By the dawn's early light,
    what so proudly we hailed
    at the twilight's last gleaming,
whose broad stripes and bright stars,
    through the perilous fight,
    o'er the ramparts we watched
    were so gallantly streaming.
    And the rockets' red glare,
    the bombs bursting in air,
    gave proof through the night
that our flag was still there.
O say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
o'er the land of the free
and the home of the brave?
