  • BOWNESS ON WINDERMERE in the Lake District, England is a stunning lakeside town in Cumbria between Kendal and Keswick. Come with us as we have a walk down to Lake Windermere.
Also watch our tour of Kendal here - • KENDAL Cumbria [Lake D...
In todays Gimbal Walk TV video we visit Bowness-On-Windermere which is a gorgeous town down by Lake Windermere where you can stay in one of the many hotels and guesthouses, have a lovely meal in the town, and head out for walks in the lake district.
In this walking tour I'll take you through the town, down the hill, and down to the side of the lake where we can see the boat trips, cruises, boat hire and lake tours that happen here, as well as the little shops and pubs and bars along the lakeside.
The Lake District really is a stunning part of Great Britain and it's hard to imagine you're in England at times as it looks more like parts of Canada or America with it's huge mountains and beautiful calm still lakes with little boats sailing up and down them!
You can hire a boat and go sailing yourself across the lake, or take one of the many boat cruises or trips across from Bowness to places like Ambleside or Lakeside with great views along the way.
Bowness-on-Windermere is also home to The World of Beatrix Potter attraction, opened in July 1991 by Victoria Wood
Bowness-on-Windermere is one of the most popular holiday locations in the Lake District and the easiest way to access the lake, most notably by steamer. It is an excellent base for water activities, including boating and leisurely water attractions, as well as boat hire or family watersports.
My top 5 Lake District places to visit (in no particular order)
    1 - Bowness On Windermere
    2 - Grasmere
    3 - Ambleside
    4 - Kendal
    5 - Keswick
If you visit the Lake District do try and visit those places. They're a real treat for tourists and visitors looking for the best tourist attraction or places to visit in the Lake District.
It's important to note that this tour is of Bowness On Windermere and isn't actually Windermere village which is further uphill. I'll feature that place in a separate video walking tour on my channel.

"The Ship Inn" on The Glebe is a great place for pub lunches, especially if you have kids: Their menu always includes 'child sized' portions of their main meals, so you're not reduced to feeding your kids the usual fare of pizza, sausage, chicken nuggets or burger (each with "chips and beans!") and they can have a 'proper' meal with their parents. (The kids portions are 'child-sized' mainly by reducing the amount of veggies they serve with them - that's usually OK with the kids - and the main part of meat, etc. is almost as large as it is in the full-prized portions on the 'adult' menu!)

Nice video; though you missed so much in Bowness that you might have wanted to include: St Martin's Church, and the little 'old town' right behind it, is worth a visit. Also, if you'd have continued on your walk along 'The Glebe' beyond the bar you'd have come to a short footpath onto Cockshot Point: like a piece of the countryside in the middle of town, with beautiful unspoiled views of the lake and of Bell Isle; this would lead to Ferry Nab (where the Windermere Ferry arrives/departs) and adjacent to that is Windermere Marina Village, which is well worth a visit.
