  • The fourth film in our Cotswolds series looks at old traditions like The Mop hiring fair and the 19th century farm hands belief that stones and skeletons grow in the fields.
    __________________________________________________________________________
In the late 19th - early 20th century, Joseph Arthur Gibbs and Alfred Williams documented everyday life in the villages of the Cotswolds.
Using their evocative descriptions from Gibbs, Williams and a handful of others who knew the Cotswolds intimately, combined with a wonderful collection of old photographs and archive film, this fascinating series brings to life the Cotswolds of a bygone age.

Wonderful series. I have noticed an increase in historic early films on the internet. Beginning in 1896 through the 1920s. Especially the pre-WW1 short minute or two clips. Restored or not. They have many positive views which, in my opinion, indicates are real desire on the part of a good portion of the populace to return to those early days. Even with shorter life spans a result of primitive medical technology. Penicillin, for example. No mass consumerism because nonsensical products had yet to be invented. No dumb smart phones. The films offer a small escape.
