Politicians put all money in their packet and spend nothing back on the town what is $7,000.000 to fix up a Transportation center

transport center is in wrong place compared to what the users do- and actually would be better split in two- one where the one craft market is for a limited number of vehicles for each route, with easy access for banks, shopping, and health center, and the other mixed with the buses.. then put the craft market in the current bus park between the transport center and the police station.
because most people would rather risk tickets and avoid the long walks where the higglers harrass them and they have no shelter

I am not surprised because outside of the one in Half Way Tree transport center, I have seen a few around the island that look like people would risk their lives or health to enter. Many are poorly located, maintained, or in some cases abandoned shortly after being built by the very people and vehicles they were designed to serve. In some cases due to logistic challenges the market is seen as too far from the center and the rebellious taxi drivers go back on the road and park up to facilitate the needs of their passengers. Police then do not enforce the usage as the pushback creates hours of footage for videos of confrontations daily and accusations of harassing taxi men.

Yep. That sounds about right. Why don't they build proper facilities and charge appropriate fees.

@@drivinginjamaicathat is what one would call the million dollar question. It is not like someone did not use tax payer dollars to build it and got paid. Do not be even surprised if someone is not still being paid well to maintain it.
Go to the one in Hopewell, Hanover and it is abandoned. Go to the one in Lucea, Hanover and although in use it looks a right mess. People need to hold municipal councils to better standards. Small wonder public transportation is a dirty word in Jamaica and seen as something poor Jamaicans or curious tourist use.

Well, I guess every little counts, but $7M jmd for a major transport hub in one of our most important cities sounds like an insult, right? I mean, you would be hard pressed to buy even a house for that in Kingston. What we should be asking is, is Ocho Rios getting its fair share of all the tourism revenue that it generates for Jamaica? Shame.

@@islandboi2130 yet aside from tourists visiting, Ocho Rios area is the playground of some the most well off persons in Jamaica. If an uptown Kingstonian does not know any other rural area in Jamaica, you can be assured they know Ochi. Damn shame they would not want the whole town to shine and not just certain areas.
