  • Woke up and went to the range today, decided to shoot 87gr Hornady custom lite and Sako 100gr gamehead. Not the best shooter of course just a lad out on saturday morning. This gun is more accurate than I can shoot for sure lol. One sticky cartridge in the tikka was interesting from hornady.
Im noticing from watching the video myself I need to work on a few shooting techniques like the recoil anticipation. It's great to watch yourself shoot to pick out mistakes.

First time shooting a new gun and not the best rest i think you did well. And only a 9 power scope. I use a 2x7 with heavy cross hairs and average 1.2 m.o.a.

I am a wild Canadian too, but stuck in Toronto. Trying to get back to the country side.

Those are my stomping grounds as well, immediately looked familiar. I'm thinking of getting a 243 to work as both a deer and coyote rifle, or alternatively a 30-30 for deer and a dedicated coyote rifle, maybe 22-250, 223, or even a 17 WSM. Seems like 243 can be loaded to do well at both though with the right ammo.

That's exactly why i got this one. Deer and coyotes. Loads of great bullet options for sure!

@@alihernandez6200 For sure, nice to have one that can do double duty... but it's also fun getting more rifles :) I've been shooting a few years now but only just getting into hunting. Seems like around in Ottawa valley, deer opportunities are often within 100m so I'm tempted to try 12ga slugs or iron sight 6.5x55 Swede. I'm going to scout out some better crown land options that might present longer shots, but I'm not sure if I'll hunt deer this year or wait til next (didn't get in the draw). I'm really hoping to get some coyote, rabbit, and maybe a turkey.

@@Thirsty_Fox don't forget in wmu65 it's shotgun and bow only for deer. Coyotes you can use rifles. There's also moose opportunities very close by.

@@alihernandez6200 That's true, though I'm not quite prepared to hunt moose yet but maybe one day. I'm mostly in 58, 63, 64, which allow for rifle hunting for deer in the areas I would hunt deer. I think a .243 makes good sense to add to the collection, with 55gr for coyote and 100gr for deer. I do have a 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser that would work a charm except that it's only iron sights and I wouldn't scope a classic!

25-06 is a ripper for all of the above too

I’d keep trying different ammo’s . I know it’s not the gun, because I’ve never seen a tikka that can’t shoot . But those groups are not good at all.
When you find ammo your gun likes, you should be able to get one ragged hole groups even with factory ammo .
If my holes aren’t at least touching on paper, I try a different ammo .
