My question is how can I share a folder or file from Desktop Google Drive as I can do from Online Google Drive?
I used to use the dislike count to give me an indication of whether a video will answer my questions or if it'll be just a waste of my time. Unfortunately, they took that away. Luckily, this video rocks it. It answered my question quickly, and it gave me valuable info I wasn't anticipating.
I'm so glad to hear that John. Thanks for the like!
I just bought a chromebook and I'm finding this is the best channel to use. I'm definitely going to subscribe.
What an incredible video and channel ... so clear, concise, and substantive ... makes it so much easier to understand ... thank you ... great job!!
Thank you outstanding and concise. Very well done and exactly what I was looking for!
Soooooo much better than other Google Drive for Desktop tutorials I have encountered (points made much more clearly)! Thank you.
I'm so glad to hear that. Thanks for watching!

I thought you did an outstanding job! Thanks
Thank you so much, Sir 😊
Thanks for sharing
Thanks. The Google drive icon was hidden on my pc and I didn't understand several points. Your video revealed it to me.
Glad it helped!
Man...I had seen the settings button on the google drive icon but never bothered to use it. Turns out, that it is pretty much useful. Thank you very much.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you Scott. Very helpful and I will share with others on our (Charitable) Trust. They will find it extremely helpful I am sure - like I have done. We are remote from one another and our "site" is remote from all of us; yet most are using either a PC or a MAC by default day to day. Having an accessible file storage tool to store and update the Trusts working information AND direct from our desktops is HUGE.
Another thing that you can do with Google Drive for desktop and which you didn't quite get to in the latter stages of this video is the ability to add multiple google drive accounts to Drive for Desktop. For me this is a GOLD NUGGET - yet a possibility that is surprisingly well hidden. Its always simple when you know how of course - like clicking on the profile avatar in the settings/preferences screen that you were highlighting at the back end of the video.
Thank you again Scott. Keep up the great work. I find your videos very very helpful and across on a wide range of subjects and tools.
So glad that you found this helpful, Jon. And thanks for sharing that bonus tip!
Excellent and thank you - I have been using Google drive for years and did not know this.
The same with me
Omg I just spent over an hour trying to figure out how this worked when I could have just watched this 10min video. Thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Only an hour? I was in for about 5 hours, with a few breaks now and then. After watching this, I'm on the brink of understanding. Too tired now to deal with any more of it today though. What an absolute gong show. glad for a good video.
FANTASTIC JOB ON THIS VIDEO!!! Easy to understand.
Great to hear!
Thank a lot friend,
Brilliant explanation - excellent tutorial, concise and logical to follow.

Its useful for beginners of Google Drive. uploading a folder is nice.
Thank you Scott ! Your Tutorials are made didactically and very clear.
A Question: When Synchronizing a folder to "Google Drive - Computers", Is it still needed to backup (upload) it to "google - My Drive"? Thank you. Daniel
Thanks for this video, just what I needed. I just started using Google Drive and was confused about the difference between Google Web and desktop. Looked at other explanations on the subject, and though I could understand them, I couldn't relate to the real significance of the desktop. This is now in the past thanks to your excellent video on the subject. I've also subscribed, thanks again😊
So glad that you found this video helpful. Thanks for sharing your feedback and for subscribing!

Welcome 😊
Hi. A very useful video thank you. I've just finally (and I think/hope successfully, I haven't double-checked everything yet and we're talking about 90+ gigs-worth of data in total!) synced my 2 home computers, a desktop and a laptop with the GDD cloud. A couple of questions though please... even though the data on both of my PCs is essentially the same (or should now be), does that double the amount of storage in my Google Drive account because separate storage is required of each of my computers, and secondly do/can I only see my data in all 3 locations via the 'My Computers' tab (and the corresponding names I've given my PCs) rather than in My Drive when in 'Mirroring' mode? I hope this makes sense.
excellent presentation
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks to your tutorial. How are the contents of Google Drive related to Time Machine and External Hard Drive?
Thanks for the tutorial. Please how do I locate what I have save in the drive.
this awesome
Very helpful ❤
Glad you think so!
tq bro
Great overview, thanks so much! I think I missed something however.. If I create a new file or folder on my desktop, hen does the synching actually occur to ensure that it also is added to Drive? As well, when does it occur if I create a new file within a old folder on my desktop?
A point to note is that even if you choose the "stream all files" option to save hard drive space, you can still select (via your G: local folder) individual files and folders that you want to have available offline.
Hi !! tks you for you video ! i get a question ! when i was using backup and synch i could see everything about folder activities on my web drive when there were some modifications from desktop ! now after upgrading to drive for deskstop i no longer have activity tracking ? what' could wrong ?
Thank you - very understandable and helpful!
One question: If i delete a file from my harddrive, that is shared w/ Google Drive for Desktop, will it be deleted from my Google Drive --- assuming a mirror configuration? Thanks.
Thank you!!!!!!!
Welcome!
Great video. If I have multiple Google accounts (personal, business, wife's business, etc). Can they each have their own folder in Google desktop?
Nice
Yeah, i like it!
Yes, it is helpful.
Glad to hear that!
Thanks for the video.
But haven't you forgot the other computer feature?
Good intro video...Question. I've chosen 'Stream' and GDrive is still trying to download about 1,000 files on my Surface Pro7 that has a very small hard drive. Any advice?
Hi, thank you for the tutorial. After the download was complete, G drive didn't show up in my explore file under Window C line instead I had to look for it, when I did find it and tried to drag and drop it under window for easy access, it didn't drop under the line but instead it got hidden somewhere else un window c. Do I need to uninstall and install again and maybe direct it to where it needs to show up? Thank you!
nice
you just saved my life : one like and one subscription
Thanks so much, Alex.
Hey, nice video! But I don't want to mirror all of Google's files on my computer, can I only sync selected folders? Plus, all files from my computer were automatically saved to Google Drive as well. Can this be exhibited?
Hi Scott, A question concerning Mirroring:
When something is changed on computer, for example a new file is created, it will be copied automatically into the Drive online isn't it ? But what is leading when you computer hasn't got a file "X" anymore and your Drive Online still has it. There can be a tiny moment that you made a mistake to delete a file on your computer and want to keep the file which is only stored for that moment in Google Online for that moment (because you deleted in on your computer)
1.How can you overcome that your only copy in Drive Online is deleted ?
2. And how can je be sure the only copy in Drive Online will be copied some time later to your Desktop again as well ?
Thanx. Martin
Hi ! is there a way to choose what folder or files is syncro? dont want to see all my files and folders in my desktop gdrive
Can you please show how to install or access " Sheard with me " also on the desktop as part of Google drive.
Thank you
Thank you very much for your useful video. I have a problem and I hope you can help me. I have a folder having automatically created and named Classroom in my Google Drive and my desktop Google Drive. This folder contains the stuff that I have posted and stuff that my students have submitted in my Google Classrooms. I do not want this folder on my desktop because it occupies too much storage on my hard drive. How can I stop syncing this folder? If I delete this folder, do the files in this folder will disappear from my Google Classrooms? Thank you in advance!
Fast, Focus and Cool (Like for you)
tnx for this tutorial. would you plz explain this: when I click (This Pc/Google Drive); only (My Drive option) is displayed , I couldn't find (Other computers)? Urgent Plz
Any tips for syncing a windows 2016 local server? My office computers currently save all of the files to my server. I want to have the google drive for desktop backup everything from the server so I can access my files when I am out of the office.
Hi, I downloaded the software and use it to make a backup copy of my important folders, but I noticed that when I delete a file from my computer; it syncs back from google drive, it behaves like 2 dimensional syncing (mirroring) while I want to use it as a one dimensional sync to sync only from laptop to drive and not vice versa.. is there any solution?
So i have this issue. I had a folder on my desktop synced with Google Drive, to save my work both offline and on cloud. I formated recently and this folder is available on My Computers section --> My laptop on Google Drive online. Can i make a copy of it on my desktop folder (as i used to have) and manage to keep it synced in the same folder online?
Can you sync specific local folders directly to a Shared Drive (formerly Team Drive)?
Hi Scott, I'm having an issue here: I've successfully downloaded Drive, everything's backed up - BUT when I try to open my doc files in my new Google Docs app, it opens a browser window that is full of all of my docs, not the one I intended to open. I don't mind going to browser, but heading to a library instead of my desired app is really annoying. That said, when I right click the file there are some "Quick Actions" - one of them being open the file with Google Docs. This, despite seeming to be the exact same process, works for me. Do you have any idea what's happening here? This is the last leg of my file journey and I really wanna figure it out. Thanks for your consideration.
wonderful tutorial, very easy to understand and thorough.
Google drive is really a solid place to store your files. Until previously I did not know about the desktop app but it's honestly so helpful to have
You said it, Demetri. Having direct access from your computer can save you so much time!
Hi, I recently had to reinstall my PC after a Windows update. Since then drive has created My Computer (1).
How to I remove this and get it to start syncing with the original My Computer, please?
Should also add that I have moved some folders in My Computer after the reinstall. Is there a way to tell Drive that the folders backed up already are the same as the ones in the new location, or does it just have to backup from fresh?
What if I used the Drive folder instead of the Computers folder, would I avoid this issue? What if the Drive folder letter changed, say because I'd added hardware? Thanks.
Thanks.
I use a Mac with several different Profiles- how does Google Drive work in this case? Thanks
under windows, is it possible to create a folder outside the My Drive folder?
I have a specific folder and set up sub-folders that I would access to in each of my 3 different computers. A MacBook Pro, a Mac Mini, and a Windows Laptop - How can I configure Google drive on each pc to accomplish this please.
Can I select only some files to mirror and the rest to be stored in the cloud?
Will data sync same way in both stream and mirror files ?
Hi, thanks for your video !!
do you know, if it's possible to install Google Drive on a regular drive rather than a virtual drive?
I can not do it in any way.
I would really like your information on the subject.
I think you can use Google Drive streaming location to Folder, which is a physical folder in your local drive (not to Drive Letter, which is a virtual drive). It can be configured in the Settings of Google Drive for Desktop's Preferences.
1) if one stores an application on Google Drive desktop, then if have GD desk. on another computer I should be able to use that app still, right?
2) the backup requires the same amount of space as the actual files that are being backed up? or is there a system that compresses those files?
How can I copy some previously backed data from drive to pc ?
I´m using office 365 Word and it recommends saving the docs in Onedrive Personal or on my PC of course. Before I bought Office 365 I always worked with Drive docx (the old fashioned way). and I worked with synced folders on Google Drive. Now it irritates me, bc. when I work on a word doc it saves in Onedrive whereas Google recommends Google Desktop. I feel torn between the two. What would you recommend? Plus isn´t there a privacy problem to allow Google Drive access to all my files and folders? I mean nowadays with the threat of digital dictatorship? What´s your take on that?
If I sync a folder to Drive (streaming), will it automatically get deleted from my PC thus saving me space on my PC, or do I need to do that manually?
In Ubuntu, google drive can be embedded in files app itself. A kind of default feature you can say!
thanks very much for the info.. howevere I have a couple of problems that do not fit your explanation... 1. that I already had my "clive" documents folder backed up by "Google Backup and Sync" app into my Gdrive which shows up in the location ... Drive\Computers\My Computer\Clive in the Gdrive browser when opened. How to I get the "Clive" documents folder mirrored by the new Desktop app.?? 2. A similar issue exists with the "My Pictures" folder which is already existing on Google Drive but the space used up by these photos (63Gb) is not accounted for against my Gdrive total storage allowance. How do I continue to have "My Pictures" folder backed up by the desktop app..? If I add the "My Pictures" folder to the ADD Folder in desktop it starts to backup all my pictures again in the My Computer Folder in Gdrive... I don't see any gain in using the desktop app, but Google have stopped supporting it.. Ideas..?
