  • Today we cover how to do a three step process for getting that old layered paint look without having to do all of the layers. We used a door for our demonstration but this process can be used for anything that can be painted.

    Now I think I'll try this technique on a piece of furniture with drawers, doors, and detail. Can't wait. I'm think that project just might start tomorrow.

    I’m looking @ 2 different trailers to become my “tiny” home. The problem is that both have dark cabinets and I’m so not into dark wood. This is the best technique for the farmhouse look I’d like. Thank you for this tutorial.

      I'm in the process of redoing my "GLAMPER" now. Mine has that icky 80's looking "golden oakish" color and I hate it. I'm doing a shabby chic style {like everything I have lol} so I have done the cabinet doors and drawer fronts a really pale pink and I'm gonna do antique white on the actual cabinets but I want to find a "pearl" looking top coat to go over the antique white. We have a commercial vinyl wallcovering business so my husband is a PRO at wallpaper so we are eventually gonna replace the wallpaper but I can't wait to be finished! There's NOTHING wrong with ANY of it, it's just a "want to thing". But it's so exciting!

    When you said to seal it before waxing the distressed parts are you supposed to keep the finish off of the distressed parts so the wax Adheres?

    so beautiful ! I have just finished my front door and I have a question - do you think wax is enough? Isn't it better to use lacquer? I like the finish of wax more than lacquer. My door is not exposed outside - we live in a block of flats. Thank you.

      Some of my favorite pieces in our home we found right on the side of the road!!! And ALMOST everything was either thrift store, flea market, side of the road, garage sale, etc... LUCKILY, I'm pretty crafty and I can look at something that may look like crap and see "what it can be made into" rather than what it looks like at first. And FYI... If you will pick a good neighborhood and find out what day is "trash day" and go early those mornings and sometimes even the night before!!! That's when you can find the best "junk"! 😘 Happy hunting!

    • @JamiRayVintage
      @JamiRayVintage  Před 7 lety

      Tracy McNeilage I don't make it I use a premade chalk paint called Fairy Chalk Mother that I retail on my website www.jamirayvintage.com

    • @JamiRayVintage
      @JamiRayVintage  Před 7 lety

      Tracy McNeilage it is flat which is the best paint to use when distressing. Paints with sheen tend to peel instead of powder. Y sheen comes in my sealer. I use Satin Polyacrylic that is waterbased

      Christi Pollard depends on how bold you want to go. I love aqua and red but I would have to be there in person to pick the right share. Red and white are also very classic

      @@JamiRayVintage I'm so glad to see someone else who breaks the "rules" when it comes to painting, etc... Luckily, I personally don't really like anything "perfectly pretty" {for lack of a better term lol}. Everything in our house is pretty much vintage and /or shabby chic so it's easier to get away with "breaking the rules". Plus, I don't like "matchy matchy" furniture or whatever so "perfectly imperfect" is my style. Lol. And I'm the only one who has to like it so I'ma do what I want. Lol. But I crack up when I watch you kinda just "slapping paint on" just however and not trying to make it all perfect because that's exactly how it I do things. I'm ADHD so I'm very impatient and I tend to get in a hurry, but my husband does high end hotel remodeling so he's used to making everything perfect so it took everything he had in him to get used to my way of doing things AT HOME when he helps me do things here. #sorryforthenovel 😂

      @@JamiRayVintage do you have adhd? I do!!!! Big time. Lol. As long as I take my medicine, I can actually FINISH the projects I start. If I DON'T have the medicine, I'll have 35 projects started and none finished. Lol. 😁 But I still have to do it like you do {it just cracks me up when I watch you because it reminds me so much of myself.} 😂 And your things always turn out beautiful so you must be doing SOMETHING right huh!!! 😘 You will be my inspiration for doing projects that I wanna do but don't feel like removing the hardware, etc.... I'm like screw it.... I will prolly change it out anyway and if not, I can scrape off any paint that gets on it. Hehe
