If any of these cops wanted to stop one of these riders, all it would take is a tap on the rear wheel of the bike with a bumper and the rider would comply. The cops are showing a little more restraint than that though.

Altmetaldoktor This is not my opinion, this is law, American law not Aussie so I don't know how it would work. But in America you cannot be convicted of felony evading or eluding if they cannot prove that you saw the lights and heard the sirens. Well, the cop never hit his lights OR his sirens.
Now that's American law. Not sure how it translates to Aussie. but if it is the same, then justice would only be served if the cop was charged for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and forced to pay for the damage to government property as well as the damage to the bike and damages to the kid.
I'm not a cop hater but in this case what he did was wrong. As opposed to what a lot of people think, I might sometimes get opinionated about cops but I have a lot of cop friends. And a lot of my cop friends agree with me - not to be nice, but because that's how they actually feel. I think my cop friends are heroes. Cops like the guy who hit that dirtbike over such a minor offense are not heroes in my opinion. That's not a heroic deed.

I'm sure if it was a $50 fine and "go home, park your bike, and only ride on private property" then they would stop no issues. But it's more like $2k, bike impounded, jail for a few hours till you get bailed, and court dates. Being as they are already more adrenaline inclined than your average citizen, they are more willing to take a risk to stand up against what they believe is wrong. Civil disobedience, soon it will lead to changes in law. Already over the past decade the motorcycle community's civil disobedience against wildly disproportionate punishments has led to no-chase laws and lower fines for minor infractions.
+David McCoy II i've ran like this 3 times i can think of, got away twice. once i was drunk and knew the consequences were dire, the other time i had warrants for failure to appear, got away both those times. the time i got caught i was stealing gas, they got my plates and were waiting for me at home. i run because i HATE authority and there is great thrill in avoiding them.

So, someone rides a dirtbike, not harming anyone, and the police decide to run him off it, possibly injuring him and damaging the bike, just because the bike isn't 'road legal'. Are the police here to better society, or make it worse by actually causing the pain and misery that makes life so difficult for many of us. Because I'm really confused here. Instead of enforcing laws that actually have an effect on society, the police decide to waste time and run people off the road just so they have the satisfaction that they caught someone who annoyed them by getting away on a bike.
