    Glad you are discovering that trail/scale stuff is "more driver skill"= greater reward. Not as capable, but so rewarding when you have those "holy crap! it made it!!" moments. No truggy achievement unlocked!! 😁

    I'm converting my trx4 Defender (It's old, from the week they first went on sale originally) to a sport, but keeping the two speed and locking diffs. It's been fun watching it get more stable and more capable as I tweak this and that. It's no easy mode rig, but it's so much damn fun to nail a line that I thought was impossible.

    You need some sort of fan for those nats. The truck stops have a neck fan thing that blows a breeze up over your face that might help. Idk I haven't tried one of those yet. A shop fan, even from a distance is enough to help with the gnats & mosquitoes both too

    Love the lifeguard truck look. I also think the expedition rack looks spectacular, totally worth the weight. I kept an old sport body for when I want to perform but I usually use my “scale body” with interior, expedition rack, all the lights etc.
    My Sport is by far the most capable thing in my fleet and was my first truck. It’s a total Traxxas fanboy assembly, every bell and whistle. I even run an upgrade Traxxas servo. I know it’s a bit of a niche position but I was gifted a Sport RTR as my first crawler and couldn’t be happier. I’d like to do a sport kit but I already have one and a Defender so I should probably not.
    We’re mostly trail up here in SE Michigan but trail builds can be an absolute blast. And flipping the bumper brackets, raising the sliders with spacers and trimming the body will add performance for free.

  • @TheAmericanUhate
    @TheAmericanUhate Před rokem

    That front bumper has a place built into it to bolt in a light bar too. It's got a flat plate with a screw on each side, that's just a blank to fill the gap for the light bar basically. Part number is TRA8088

      I'm all too aware of Traxxas bumper-flippin', but I kinda don't wanna. The fitment of the bumpers to the body is SO GOOD, when most bumpers look slapped on. Honestly, I'd like the same front bumper but without the platform for the winch, so it would be moved back 3/4". Would still look right, but better approach.

    This heat ain't no fun. I broke down in Nebraska on Friday. Mid day was only in the 80's outside, but inside the truck was an oven. My roof measured 117, door panels 112, window curtain 118, seats 106, floor 104, bed was 102, etc.. I was being cooked alive Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They finally got me a hotel Sunday night. It's now Tuesday and they're acting like I've been in the hotel for too long. The KW dealership hasn't even started on my truck until today. I asked them if they wanted me to go live under the bridge until the truck is fixed today, the way they was acting lol

    I like reversing the bumper mounts on my TRX4. I place the rear mount on the front UPSIDE DOWN. and the front on the rear upside down. This gives just a little more approach and departure angle. I have trx4 with a rear mount on the front and back upside down. I have trx4 with a front mount on the front and back upside down. Just depends on the body, tires, and bumpers I use.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před 11 měsíci

      There are plenty of options when mounting bumpers to stock TRX-4 rails... unless you want to use the Sport shell with internal fenders. Then your choices are run it as it stits, or carve the body up and (IMO) ruin it. Daphne runs a rear mount upside down and inside out, cut so that the front bumper only sticks out about 1/4" past the rails, and none of it hangs below the rails. Creep cabs come with freedom.

    I put the two speed on my Sport with a HH Crawlmaster 12T motor with 11T Pinion and it was a perfect solution. Crawls very nice in first gear and plenty fast in second gear. I was debating going to a 9T pinion just to maximise the slow speed and to make the second gear at initial speed safer on the motor, but it is a really nice set up and I prefer it over the single speed.

  • @andymac0035
    @andymac0035 Před rokem

    I do like the look of the scaler tires on there and have tried a set (also on a TRX4), but sadly I was disappointed. They do alright in the dry, and the hotter the better (so your location is probably ideal). They load up and do not clean out well in any kind of moist dirt or mud. I live in the Northeast (New Hampshire), and Mt Cardigan is nearby, so I do mostly trailing. It starts out with dirt/rock, and tree roots, eventually changing over to all rock and ledge on the summit. I tried different inserts as well as a lot of break-in time but could never get the scaler tire to perform decently. Too bad, as they looked so good. Anyways, nice build.... err... assembly.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před rokem

      Yeah, I can't see the Scaler doing well in the wet. Lugs are too tight, it just won't clear. Deep Woods are the opposite of that ()sadly now discontinued) and of course the Canyon Trail cleans out as well as any tire I've tried, and doesn't really seem to care if it's full of mud.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před rokem

      Ain't that the truth? I love Element, and even though I keep breaking front end stuff (that pinion is SO tiny) it doesn't mean I'm going to up and quit on them. I have heard people vocally claim something to the effect of "Traxxas is trash" having never even driven one, much less owned one.
      Traxxas earns (in my book) a big bonus point for not just rehashing the 10.2, which is what pretty much everyone else does.

    Is the Sport the most durable vehicle Traxxas produces? Its got to be up there.

    • @CrawlerCanyon
      @CrawlerCanyon  Před rokem +2

      I'd honestly say it's not even close. The TRX-4 is "over-durable" by pretty much any standard. The panhard mount i recently cracked is the only TRX-4 plastic I've broken, so far as I can remember. Have yet to break any metal/driveline. Every Rustler/Pede/Slash I ever owned was a Ship of Theseus, every part having be replaced multiple times. On 3S power, I'd basically break something every time I ran it.

    • @thindigital
      @thindigital Před rokem

      @@CrawlerCanyon I have a slash ultimate and a rustler vxl 4x4 and totally agree about 3s. The stub axles and drive shafts just don't hold up. Also 2s is much better for close racing with mates.
