  • The Traxxas TRX4 Sport is better this way, because it's simpler! I take a first look at this pared-down version of the TRX platform and consider some new upgrades and tease an upcoming project!
    How do you think the TRX4 Sport stacks up against the RedCat Gen8? Post your comments below.

      I have had a couple of the Traxxas trx scale rigs bronco, mercedes 6x6. But the Sport I bought to take new people out actually became my favorite because of its simplicity and I didn’t feel bad running through rocks here in the PNW. Detailed rigs are great for the trail and looking at for sure but I almost want to cry when I rip a plastic mirror off.

    I love running my TRX4 - Bronco with open diffs. For those of us who aren’t strictly running these trucks on tailored obstacle courses, the ability to keep the diffs open make less challenging, backyard or beach runs much more fun and challenging. Furthermore, attempting the same lines with locked and open diffs yields very different driving dynamics, so the same course can be run multiple times, but stay interesting.

      Sport owners will also miss out on the massive wide range of gearing choices the 2 speed has... Going as low as 79:1 and as high as 11:1...
      I also run my TRX4 unlocked all the time while doing trail, The cornering is so tight I have lost track how many times I haven't had the need to reverse to make a corner.

    • @skirmich
      @skirmich Před 5 lety +5

      Why though? the kit makes all the sense in the world… You dont pay for the overpriced Body Selection but get the full TRX4 experience in a kit.
      Lets say fine you can live without the locking diffs (Which is not scale, Real cars are not diff locked 24/7) you still have that Single speed trans that gets you a 35:1 ratio with a single speed so you can change your ratio with pinion and spur but you will be forever locked in a single ratio.
      The Kit has the full 2 speed trans and it gets you 2 incredible and wide choices of gearing.. 1st gear with it industry leading 65:1 and its 2nd gear with the massive 27:1... Simply put the full TRX4 will out crawl and out speed the Sport in box stock form, Add a brushless system and the 2 speed trans gets even better.
      I love my Bronco and I would not lose the locking diffs and 2 speed trans for anything... I can out maneuver any other crawler in a friendly race because of the unlocked diffs so I can turn fast and I can drive fast because I have my 2nd gear..
      In summary: You cant really have an educated opinion on the subject if you went straight for the Sport, You dont know what your are missing out.

      @@RevolutionXThe Sport is the ideal choice for people wanting pure crawling performance.. My trail buddy got it Friday and we went into our team trail hiking on Saturday morning, I was surprised at how capable the Sport Was, He is obviously changing the body ASAP. But he never complained about the price, He got it for like 350 iirc.
      As for the sport The super light weight body kept it from rolling back in the steep hill climbs and the ratio was fine for the Titan Motor. The only con is still the horrible stock shock tuning traxxas even went their way and put white springs all around from the fabric but kept the heavy 30wt shock oil so you can feel how horribly over dampened it is...
      Compared to my staggered orange/white + 10wt shock oil, My Bronco felt planted at any speed and it flexed easily on the rocks. I really recommend that setup BTW.. The Bronco plain springs 0.45rate are a way stiffer than what it needs, I think it would benefit the Defender the most.

    I get why Traxxas released the option rich version first. The TRX4 essentially replaced the Summit, as it has the same options (two speed trans, locking diffs), but at a fraction of the cost and without the need for two servos, two batteries, etc., thereby reducing the cost of what's needed to get up and running. That said, I'm glad they came out with a stripped down model and a tracked version with the stripped down chassis (what I run currently). They gave the consumer options so you can get what suits you the best.

  • @JDHitchman
    @JDHitchman Před 5 lety +1

    It seems to me that, in general, long time scale crawlers are less likely to appreciate the TRX4 locking diffs and 2 speed than new drivers. I suspect this resistance comes from the fact that they simply have never had these features as an option in the past and long term the veteran drivers simply have grown accustom to not having them. So it must have felt very complicated to these veterans when the TRX4 originally came out with these features. There was a lot of "too complicated", "more to break", "too heavy", etc. comments from veteran drivers when I think it is actually more a case that it's just new and different. On the flip side as a relatively new crawler of 2 years and the owner of 5 TRX4s, I find driving a locked axle rig to be stiff and just not as interesting. I am thrilled that Traxxas released the Sport so now there is something for everyone. Matt, I'm glad to see you actually excited about the TRX4 now and I can't wait to see what you come up with!

I guess you had to see what could be when the defender came out. Not many popular hobbists gave the traxxas a nice review. When you say they should've released the sport first then 6 ish months later the fully equipped one.. So not to piss people off you'd want to put out the sport but be sneak peaking around the same time the what might be in the fully equipped.. so you'd give people the choice to grab a sport or wait. I'd consider a sport but have a scx10 (v1). And haven't been driving it in a while let alone most other of my rc's..

    Unimog or G Wagon 550! Now a video related curiosity, why do you shoot and upload with the flat colour profile? What you are showing doesn't look right (IMO) when it's all muted colours. That can be fixed with grading (or stop shooting in log), I'd rather see your content with brighter colours and more contrast. Thanks!

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild  Před 5 lety

      Mogs are cool. I shoot flat, but I have applied a look and graded the footage. I don't like oversaturating and over cranking the contrast if I don't have to, consider it my personal style. Plus, when it's shot flat, I have a lot more latitude to show off details that might get lost in shadow. I'll take another look at my settings, but I'm generally pretty happy with image quality.

    • @netcruzer

      OK thanks for the reply.I had noticed most of your studio shoots are very flat, and I found this one was a bit harder to watch because of it. I'm not asking you to change your style, but wanted to make sure you intended it and consider bringing back the colours a little bit more. Thanks!
