I have never seen anything embody the concept more: "The best removal is player removal."
The best card for it is the Glock.
@@priestly8164 nah, blightsteel
@@ikos3645 “at the beginning on my turn I shoot you for 8650 damage”

Why didnt he cast the Guttersnipe before casting the other instants?
shoutout to the GK crew. thank you for having me on the show - it meant a lot to me. i appreciate you!!
Windgrace strike again. who knew you would not be playing Rhystic Study this Game
It was great to watch you play some Commander! I loved your videos about Ravnica and Seb McKinnon!
You strategy of just hanging back until it was time to win was amazing
Just so you know, you're by far the best mtg content creator, I've watched you forever and your videos are masterpieces, hats off to you sir studies
Do a Windgrace tribute video to celebrate~
When Jimmy got ignored trying to shake Rachel’s hand I cried a tear for him
he was kinda reaching over her for the poison counters for like 5 minutes.
I went to the comments to see if anyone comment about that
@@wiebehogeweg2313 same😂
"You are already dead" animation was everything I had hoped for and more
The puns runeth deepeth
Nani??!
Came here just to say that, the crunchy audio was everything ❤
*Killing your opponent when they cast a spell* "This is the most red way to counter a spell" - Jimmy. That just killed me hahaha
It killed Rachel too
Question: would Tor wauki triggers count as commander damage? Because if they did then I think she would’ve died by the time she dropped to 1 life
@@andrewstephens1531 Commander damage only works with combat damage.
@@thomasgaillard6713 Ah. Ok. Thx for clarifying
I was thinking it, then Jimmy said it, lol.
The You Are Already Dead animation was the best thing I've ever seen
I came here to say this. Gave me a nice chuckle
That moment is so perfect I replayed it like 5 Times
Time stamp?
@@mkdesai3742 32:18
only thing missing is slicing the devil in 2 parts instead of the card exploding, otherwise just perfect. Just another level of dedication if you do this amount of work for just 1 card animation not even alot of people will get!
This game reminded me of that meme.
Josh: “So anyways, I started blasting”
This got referenced in the next video lmao (anyways I started casting)
I love Rachel. Always has fun builds and has a very level head in the game. She is however, not opposed to making funny or risky plays for the hell of it. My kind of player.
Rachel is awesome! It's always a joy to see her play.
She’s one of the best players on commander shows. Typically has a better understanding of the board state than others
@@MrDontSubscribeToMe She's convincing too. If she makes a political move in a game the way she words it and her cadence are on point
Agreed
Josh really proved this episode why his face is on the treasure token.
:O it all makes sense now..
I was kinda disappointed cuz there were so many cool decks (like jimmy’s and Rachel’s) but Josh kinda ruined it by doninating it
@@AmberPanda382 as he too often loves to do, it seems lol
"And if I know sam, I know he's got a plan"
"Boy do I not have a plan but I sure do love my position!"
I died, that was the funniest thing I've seen on this show. Love rhystic studies.
I love the freakin' Irony that Jimmy is playing the Life-Gain deck, and he gets burned for a shit ton by Josh, playing Jimmy's classic colors, and somehow not being Mana-Screwed.
Sorry Jimmy, Rakdos just hates you.
Its so sad 😂😭
Rakdos hating you is it’s way of loving you.
Commander Damage, Infect, Storm, extra combat steps…this game was absolutely amazing! I hope Jimmy gets to more next time I thought it was going to be way closer 😂. Bravo everyone!
Rachel's Ultimatum : Kill me or wipe your boards.
Josh: And I took that personally.
More like "Challenge accepted." 😂
Sam narrating the backstory for an episode of Game Knights gave me chills, he is a treasure!
...and I sac him to exile a card with facebreaker...
Are we sacrificing him for mana?
Fantastic Win by Sam! I really didn't expect anyone else to pull it out, but Commander damage win, now that's doing it with style!!
Not just a treasure, but a dragon's hoard
Sam HAS to be on again sometime! He is such a down-to-earth guy
I guess that's why he was playing a landfall deck
Ha HA I get it... ✌🏽down to earth✌🏽
Jimmy: "I always lose life when playing commander".
Us: "Yes Jimmy, we know".
Jimmy: "I'mma play a lifegain deck"
Also Jimmy: lowest lifetotal for most of the game
@@origaming_plays573 You can take the Red out of the Commander Deck, but you can't take it out of the Jimmy.
SPOILER:
The one time he plays a lifegain deck to not die to Ancient Tomb... and he dies to infect.
I felt the same when Rachel said “you can’t give josh lee Kwai cards it doesn’t end well”
Us “we know lmao “
I really love the meta commentary from Jimmy e.g. "Why are you interviewing me?" And "where are we in the video?"
as an occasional joke, it's good. I just hope the team doesn't go overboard with it if they decide to continue along that line.
Jimmy: I’m playing a life gain deck, so I won’t be taking damage like usual
Also Jimmy: I’m drawing 5 cards in one turn taking 10 damage
You can take the red out of the deck but you can’t take it out of the player
That's pure black mage energy hunny
But that's only 6 damage though! He had to gain 4 to draw 4 extra cards :p
The windgrace animation is INCREDIBLE and I'm still dying @ Jimmy's "how much time left in the video" bit right before the midroll. Fantastic work on this episode!
I like how the dynamic of every episode of Game Knights is: 1) Players caution what will happen if JLK assembles a value engine 2) JLK inevitably establishes said value engine 3) Table is concerned that JLK was able to assemble said value engine 4) Profit
You missed a step: Everyone ignores JLK until he's assembled his broken engine and shuts everyone out of the game.
This is insane because unless I'm crazy (Ive seen about two dozen episodes over the course of the last week, relatively new here) JLK NEVER wins these games😂😂😂😂😂😂 I think I can count on one hand the number of games I've seen Josh win.
rachel must have felt like boromir, with those arrows coming at her
LMFAO deep
RIP
"I would have followed you...my brother...my captain...my king."
Really enjoy the three unique KO's.
Doubt they've ever had a storm, infect, and commander dmg kill in the same episode before.
My god, the way Sam made a comeback right at the end and finished Josh off was PURE FINESSE. Truly couldn't have asked for a more beautiful execution. Hats off, this is the Magic i'm subbed for!
When Jimmy said, “we should be about *here* I genuinely smiled because that was so creative and accurate.”
Can’t have a Game Knights episode without having at least one turn where Josh goes off for 5-10 min. Lol. This was an interesting game though! Enjoyed it very much.
Rhystic Studies always makes Magic’s lore sound amazing, and always makes me appreciate the art on each card. So glad he got to be on the show!
So much better to see these kinds of wins than to see infinite combos. Great episode, one of my favorites in a long time.
Ironically Josh could have gone infinite with fury storm copying fury storm making infinite treasures with storm kiln artist
1:07:46 poor jimmy waiting for a handshake that never came 😢
It feels weird that Jimmy is playing bant and josh is playing rakdos.
RIGHT????
That's what I was thinking! Is this some kind of alternate reality?
Well it’s more like JLK playing spellslingers and card draws with Jimmy trying to counter the mana curse and go aggressive.
Also not to mention Jimmy lost to infect when Josh is usually the one to lose on infect
Sam's interviews were so good, he's ascended to a higher plane of chill
all i'm ever trying to do is play cards with my friends and chill
@@RhysticStudies you nailed that! Congrats on the sneak win. Well-earned.
This set has really re-energized my love of MTG's setting. Between Ajani and the weatherlight being Compleated or the death of Jaya or the new Coalition coming together the setting and story from just the art of the cards is so well done in this set. I haven't read the story since the WAR book fiasco but the one the cards are telling right now has really gotten me hooked again
Appreciate Jimmy's break of the 4th wall moments around 08:43 and 35:27! Very funny and creative! Cheers to whoever came up with the idea!
Robin Hood Men in Tights, "Let me check the script" vibes.
Josh always wins the “time of possession” battle
What?
@@jameshayes-barber9340 Josh retains priority / is active player far more than anyone else at the table?
Han Solo always said… don’t get too cocky kid..
I think Jimmy being interviewed for playing a nature's lore, and then saying, go back! Tho I was really hoping for someone to play a sheoldred or jodah, but the commanders were still interesting to see being played
Sheoldred unfortunately is too basic and bland
Unfortunately it is, same with Jodah, they really don’t like using the high power commanders unless everyone is just doing a slug fest.
@@sanga1380 which is odd.. because they ALWAYS use real Dual Lands that cost more than most peoples commander decks in just 1 card.
"I think Jimmy being interviewed for playing a nature's lore, and then saying, go back!" What do you think? That sentence makes no sense
@@Duskrequim Lmao ye true, I guess they might be doing the high power commanders for Extra Turns or maybe they just wanted to build these decks.
So happy to see a Game Knights episode where the game starts out with fair magic.
SAM's OPENING WAS AMAZING! Perfect use of his talents!
Now people can finally see why commander damage is so needed and should not be done away with EVER!
If you don't have friends and therefore have to play on the online Arena version It sucks because they already did it on there
@@davidpall3283 Brawl doesn't have commander damage, even if you play on paper. (Of course, nobody plays Brawl on paper, but still.)
it's kinda great we saw 3 ways of removing a player, raw damage, poison damage and commander damage.
@@ratchet1freak totally agree. Its why commander is such an awesome format imo.
what is commander damage?
I'm not sure why, but this episode feels a lot closer to the older Game Knights that we know and love
I suspect that this is intentional due to dominaria
I think it's because both Josh and Jimmy are in it together. We don't always get that lately since they opened the episodes to the rest of the crew.
I love seeing the rest of the crew getting some air time but Jimmy and Josh have always had some great onscreen chemistry so I miss not seeing them all the time like we used to.
I think the inclusion and reaction to infect made it. Joking about being slightly ill, and just dying to it, is a very early Game knights thing
There are some guests that spend the whole time looking at the camera and making "cute" voices or just talking with their obnoxious CZcams voice. Those people were not in this episode. The two guests remind me of people I generally play with.
That was one of the best games I think I've seen on this show. So much player interaction, everyone got to do their thing, and I think this is the first game I've ever seen where each player died to something different.
Yeah, that was interesting deaths; Damage, Infect, and Commander Damage.
Everyone got to their thing? I think Jimmy would have something to say about that.
It was literally 1 player for 99% of the match lol
The Shanna card edit with her saying get off my plane has angry old man vibes and made my laugh.
Harrison Ford's one liner from the 1997 classic, Airforce One! Lol
The Hokuto no Ken joke made my day, even though we all saw it coming.
Jimmy getting ignored by Rachel at the end is so good lol 1:07:46
Welcome to Josh pops off: A sequel. What a way to counter a spell
When Josh casts Fury Storm, he could've used the copy of Fury Storm to make a copy of the original Fury Storm, then use the copy that's made by the resolution of the copy to copy the original Fury Storm again, etc. to make an arbitrary number of treasures and probably win. If nothing else, he could have killed Rachel then resolved a copy of Ruinous Ultimatum with a billion treasure tokens in play.
he cant kill rachel and resolve the ultimatum, because the first fury storm would lose its target
yea he could have gone infinite with the stormkiln and exile his whole deck with the face breaker and then cast every instatnt in there. got a big "WHA?!" when he just cast ultimatum twice. big whifs. My kalamax heart is bleeding
Yes
As an infinite combo player myself, i was disappointed, however, for the sake of the game and show, i am happy he did what he did.
@ Tom Neilson, Sorry, I mean resolve Ultimatum, then kill Rachel using some of his 5 billion treasure tokens!
That tor wauki deck was one of the most impressive game knights deck showings in a LONG time in my opinion. Next level deck building and piloting.
Tbh it was a letdown that it lost. He played very well with a super cool deck, and I was rooting for him.
At the expense of not seeing anythibg of what the other decks has to offer
@@simonboucher5170 I see what you’re saying, but I feel like it was cool nonetheless. I doubt he built a deck that was any more busted or ambitious than his opponents’. It just happened to work out really well, and faster than what his opponents were doing this time around. The only busted card I would say he played was dockside, everything else was pretty tame. It just looked like things came together really well.
@@kyleblanchard6306 well in my perspective it was excessively time conssuming for the other players.
In real life after such a combo starts to go down we would shuffle and play a new game so the other peoples don't look at one player take his turn for 15min. And that also doesn't include the fact that he played during other players turns.
In my opinion, when that happens, i'm happy when that person loses in the end.
@@simonboucher5170 I can respect that, my group would do something similar. But that obviously that isn’t an option on a stage like their’s. Their goal is to portray an entertaining game with unique decks and plays, and I think they succeeded in that. Also, it’s relevant that he wasn’t really combo-ing. If you shuffle up for a new game every time someone’s wheels start turning, you miss out on some fun stuff! Such as upsets like this one where Josh didn’t even end up winning, despite the crazy plays!
Everyone at the table: "I have this cool low-mid lands matter deck, I have this cool low-mid legends matter deck, I have this cool low-mid lifegain=card draw"
Josh:"but what if I do combo storm?"
As if its the first time this has happened lol
@@naolislight4442 Josh going against the table is really tradition at this point; like using Stranger things legends for and Innistrad game
I mean if they were playing more interaction that game would have looked very different. Point a plowshares at tor wauki, or really any part of the treasure engine and that game looks very different. The tor wauki deck is the strongest of the 4, but it's not by a large margin either. It's simply that he wasn't really interacted with imo
@@spudster8887 Yeah they really need to start playing some more instant speed removal, even if it were to just show new players what a good deck looks like / in case someone just copied their decks.
Between Josh's 3 opponents I only counted 7 ways to interact with someone at instant speed. Jimmy has exactly 1 piece of instant speed removal, which is way too low and will often lead to these situations where you just hope someone else can do something while casting stuff with no impact.
@@Raithian1994 Yup, and i get that sometimes you get into situations where people just don't have a way to deal with it, but when the decks are this poorly built, its no wonder this happened.
Can I just say, looking at Josh's playmat upside down makes it look like a deranged pumpkin smile.
Absolutely the best game EVER! Teaches a lot, demonstrates various strategies and tactics. A true masterpiece!
I'm a simple guy. I see Rachel Weeks playing Magic and I hit the like button.
I actually think I am in love with her
The meta joke on how long we had left was priceless 😂😂😂
Shoutouts to whoever made that Soul of Windgrace focus shot. That was sweet with the voice in there for extra flavor. That edit makes me want to apply for that editor spot and learn to do this.
This the best Game Knights game y’all have ever done, simply amazing
So Tor Wauki was a sleeper agent all along, but Windgrace was there to save the day
Love Rhystic Studies so much, glad to see a game knights with him in it
Jimmy: "Hey Josh, thats my playmat!"
Josh: "OUR!"
It would have been so sweet if Jimmy commented the symptoms from the "Carriers Series" (Phyrexian Denouncer, Debaser, Defiler and Plaguelord) as the poison counters accumulated. That would have been Compleately Perfect! _Hail Phyrexia_ xD
Man, Josh was brutal this episode with his deck destroying Rachel and infecting Jimmy. But this was great to watch
Why spoil the episode? Why?
But even though it had infect, it should still have dealt damage to the players. Did they just forget to add the damage on the app?
@@halvsketchy9293 infect does damage in the form of poison counters instead of regular damage

I felt so much of sams style in his videos in this episode of game knights. His voice is so hypnotic and calming and airs a feeling of relaxation.
That was an amazing game to watch. Josh was insanely brutal and was a force to be reckoned with. I guess you could say Josh was the real phyrexian sleeper agent with all that infect damage. Great game guys.
Rachel is probably my favorite mtg personality. Thank you for having her for this, it was wonderful.
she's the absolute greatest. they couldn't have set me up with a better guest.
55:00 its funny how life gain is often considered low tier in power but moments like these show you at certain points life is the most valuable resource in EDH.
Great game! Just found this channel this week, but already loving the commander games! Thanks everyone
Rachel is my favorite player that isn’t apart of Game Knights, she is so fun!! I built my Akroma and Rograkh deck after I watched that episode
Agreed! Rachel is an awesome player and really funny.
that really was the most red way of countering a powerful spell - exhausting your own resources to rapidly burn your opponent to death anyway.
Great video! Very cinematic - i can't believe the result!
I really love all the interactions this episode. Video/Production team, you all are still doing amazing with the infomercials. Thank you for what you do Team Command Zone ^_^
That was so tense! When Josh was attempting to take down Rachel in response to her ultimatum it was absolutely nail-biting! Great episode, kudos to the editors for cutting those big moments together really well!

Love your content you guys! I’m only sad that it took me this long to find your content but I can’t stop watching them now!
HUGE Shoutout to all of the behind the scenes crew! All of the animations really just keep getting better and better! Even the smallest details, such as the arrows from Tor Wauki or the loyalty counters create such an amazing addition to the already incredible video quality. Keep it up everyone!
Out of curiosity, couldn't fury storm copy fury storm on an infinite loop?
It could indeed. It'd make infinite treasures and Josh could cast every instant in his deck.
I can’t believe josh didn’t target his own fury storm with fury storm to get infinite treasure
That's what I'm saying and infinite draw with that facebreaker might as well go for the win
While I think that'd be dope, I think from a rules perspective it doesn't work because the copy and the original enter the stack at the same time, and both need valid targets to cast. Since Fury Storm isn't on the stack when you would need to declare targets, the copy also couldn't target it since they enter at the same time. It would be pretty awesome, but a 1-card infinite combo would be a little too nutty.
@@TheDualGamers1000 The copy is created on the stack, so it’s not “cast.” Abilities that trigger when a player casts a spell won’t trigger. This means, for example, that Fury Storm’s copies may target Fury Storm itself, but this won’t trigger the copy’s “when you cast this spell” ability, and it won’t increase the number of copies of other spells you end up with.
(2018-07-13)
@@TheDualGamers1000 No I'm pretty sure it works as intended check out the storm conduit+fury storm combo online.
@@nedsummers9992 this is true, but the thing is: storm-kiln artist also triggers when you copy an instant/sorcery. So the whole combo could work

The self-burn on the Nature's Lore interview was great :)
I love that Rachel is like a semiregular guest now! She kicks ass! Great episode!
This is by far my favorite episode yet. Rhystic Studies playing the game just like how I play, piloting Soul of Windgrace (Windgrace is my favorite card) and then he really came in clutch in the end!

The good thing about being sick and homebound. I can watch through all you your videos. You guys really make me want to get into commander. Best wishes and greetings from germany. That match though..... still have goosebumps from how it ended.
Also I like to thank you guys for your content it got me into commander and I may not have a physical deck but I've been playing it online with my friends all the time and having a blast
its the exact same for me
I agree it got me into magic one k first started out as well. Also Rathtabb I respect your avatar, I loved that character
Rhystic Studies! Nice.
Love Rhystic Studies, don't think I've ever seen him so animated though!
Also sidenote, I'm really happy to see you hiring for junior/entry level positions. So many companies just want people all ready to go and it's a shame.
That was really fun to watch! Thanks for posting it!
On the one hand, there's nothing wrong with Josh being so good at the game, but on the other hand, whenever he is playing the game becomes "how do we kill Josh?"... On a third hand that can be very fun, like what just happened here with the two boardwipes.... But on a fourth and final hand, I would like to see games with a bit more of back and forth
personally agree, I find it boring when games becomes one sided for multiple turns, and that's basically tradition with this series now. Josh's treasure engine controlled the game for over 20 minutes of the video including the 3 minutes of ads; the ending was great but I was pretty tuned out during that whole turn rotation. it's impressive playing and luck but eeeeeeeeh.
That's just how magic games turn out sometimes. Given the time it takes to record one of those episode, they can't afford to record 2-3 games in a row and pick the most interesting one. production value and charisma of the crew and guest still makes this the best gameplay series out there imo.
He's good and he often seems to build a deck that is a tier or two above the rest of the table.
