  • Hello my dear friends! (please read)
Today i want to clear out a few false Information i read online about the "special" batteries used in Olight flashlights.
IMPORTANT: i did not point out that a regular cell cannot be charged in a Olight!
NEVER pay full price on any flashlight!
Please use my links and support my work
no extra costs for you - a little comission for me 😉

Thank you for this information. Olight just replaced one of my flashlights with the Warrior Mini. I see from your video that my old 18650 battery will not work in it as it has the new button at the bottom. I would have wondered why it doesn’t work. No wasting my time there because of your insightful teaching. Godspeed!

Technically I like the magnetic charging, but the original olight batteries are crazy expensive. For longer trips I want to have a spare battery with me, but the 21700 cell for my seeker 2 pro costs € 32,95 !!! You can get a nice Sofirn SP33 v2 INCLUDING a 26650 cell AND a charger for € 22,26 @ aliexpress!!

    Great video!
I think one of the problems of having a light that will not accept a standardized battery and having to use the magnetic charger cable exclusively is: if you are on a trip and lose or damage the magnetic charging cable, the chances of getting a replacement while traveling is slim to none. You are with a dead battery and useless light. The other USB cables are found everywhere including most gas stations. I don’t think the Olight charge cable would be there. The only option I see would to carry an external charger that would work for that cell or carry more proprietary cells.
Don’t misunderstand me, I love the charger but dislike not being able to use my other high drain cells in some of their lights like the Warrior Mini.

    • @MartinRathmanner_M4D_M4X
      @MartinRathmanner_M4D_M4X  Pƙed 3 lety +6

you are still able to charge the cells in a regular charger (as you have to in many hyped other lights)
so the benefit of internal charging is gone, back to what every flashlight can.
but sure, a 18650 to 21700 "Olight" adapter would be cool as "worst case scenario item"

I own the R40 Seeker I bought upon release. I use it exclusively for my running light. After few years I thought a backup battery would be good. That’s when I found out it was both proprietary and no longer available. Though a 26650 will work I believe it doesn’t properly work with the charging ‘system’ within. As in doesn’t stop charging when full charge is reached though I’m not certain on that. No matter as the original battery is still fine. I was so smitten with this light that when they blew them out for 1/2 price I nabbed two more despite the proprietary battery. At my age those will get me to my grave. Love the informative content and clears a lot of questions up. Thank-you kindly.

I accept that olight go for safety with own cells with protection but I newer like to push me to buy an exact and expensive battery for a flashlight as a spare. I don't have any olight now and like to try them but this battery thing will block that they will be my favourites.
One thing you forgot to mention: if you use a regular 18650 in a 18650 Olight the flashlight will work but charging with magnetic charger not.

    • @MartinRathmanner_M4D_M4X
      @MartinRathmanner_M4D_M4X  Pƙed 3 lety

nitecore also only rewraps industrial cells - they do not manufacture the raw cells (same as all other flashlight brands!)
but i am certain all big brands use new cells from reliable sources.
i am a fan of LiIon cell technology - and i use raw cells often
other brands than nitecore can have better options - but when the offer is too good a fake could be possible
      - be sure to fact check the product you want to buy!

Thank you this video is very helpful! I ordered a Seeker 2 Pro when it went on flash sale, didn't realize it used a special proprietary 21700 cell, beyond being protected. Now I understand it has positive and negative on one end for charging, but that I can still use a Klarus 21GT-50 INR 21700 5000mAh in it, just won't charge in the light. And it looks like I can still charge the olight 21700 with an external charger, so no biggie imho. I know there are better lights with nicer high CRI emitters, but I have good personal experience with the durability and value of olights, I also like how they make titanium, copper, stainless special additions. I hope they make more neutral high CRI emitter versions and allow their lights to continue to function with non proprietary batteries. However I kinda understand the liability with charging inside the lights so I can see why they are using their own designs for internal / magnetic charging. I think the magnetic tail cap charging is pretty convenient and worth the trade off personally.

Thanks for the video. I have the M2R Pro and enjoy the light. I am also ok with the magnetic charger, but in the video you mention people may complain if they lose or forget their magnetic charger on a trip, it could happen with regular chargers too. However, with regular chargers, you can run to the gas station or store and pick another up. Forgetting or losing the magnetic charger on a trip, you are stuck.
Has there been any other 21700 5000 mah batteries found on the market that work in the Olight M2R Pro or X Warrior Pro? I didn't see any on IMR Batteries.

as on all Li-Ion powered devices (except special Low Temp chemistries) they recommended lowest temp to use is -5°C ( storage not below -20°C )
it might be necessary to remove and prewarm the cell (in the hand for 1 min or in the pocket) before switching on.
For long term storage ust either primary Lithium cells or use special chemistries for cold temperatures (but those have reduced perfomance)

I also have the Seeker 2 Pro. It does work with regular 21700 batteries, but there is a size restriction. The regular Olight 5000mAh battery is 21.4mm diameter and 75.6mm length. Batteries with 21.6mm diameter do not fit. I'm not sure about 21.5mm, I haven't tried. 21.3mm does work. I'm also not sure about length restrictions. The battery can be slightly shorter than 75.6mm and still work, but I don't think it can be much longer. The battery also probably needs to have at least 8A discharge power to get the full turbo mode, or at least that's what the Olight 5000mAh has.
I've tested mine with an Acebeam 4000mAh (21.3mm / 74.88mm / 10A discharge) and it fits and works just fine. Just don't try to use the magnetic charger if you have a regular 21700 inside the light. I'm not sure if it would actually explode or anything like that, but I'm also not willing to find out. đŸ˜¶

I know some people do which I can understand. In my honest opinion and limited experience they make the most robust lights all be it more expensive than lots of their competitors. Very useful to know that I can charge their batteries in a regular charger too. Super grateful to you for bringing that to my attention.

First your welcome for opening comments! Second: all batteries have a negative at the top, these just take away the wrapping that protects it. Third: if you forget a type C or a micro USB cable, you can just buy a new one day of. And if you lose the Olight cable you have to pay a premium to replace it from them, and that's online.
You can buy a type C online for 45 cents which means you can buy 6 and have plenty.
Also many myths about Olight shorts happen because of the old way they worked resulting in all kinds of shorts and problems. In 2014 they started to get better, with most issues resolved by 2017/18 in my opinion.

As of October 25 2021, Olight is out of every single battery they offer. So it would be great to know what cells would work for the Odin 2000 and 1250 since that's what I own so far. The Halloween sale is in a few days. Was wanting a mini Valkyrie 2 but may just buy a surefire instead. At least I know I can buy batteries anywhere for them. If you do a video with links the the batteries for each device that are equal in power and quality, that may help a lot of people. I am unaware of any self resetting fuse as you call it on these type of batteries. These type of circuits are usually one and done. Too much amperage and bang( the circuit protecting beng tripped doesnt actually go bang), the battery is done forever. That is why it is so important when using protected batteries to make sure they are up to the demand and or application. You said so what you can lose other cables! Well none of my friends have that type or cable for me to borrow. Nor can I stop by any truck stop or convenience store and pick one up like i can a micro usb or even a usb C cable.

Have you tried to salvage the end caps from a dead Olight battery and refit them on to a standard battery? It appears that the customization is simply a contact plate that goes on to the negative end of the battery with wires that run to a disk that mounts over the positive end of the battery. I do not believe they are tack welded into place. This would mean that if your battery dies, you could cut the plastic shrink wrap case off, take the ends and wire connecting them, and simply put them on to your new standard battery. You would not even have to re-wrap the battery because if you are charging it in the tube, then the tube itself will apply the tension and the lateral retention for these end pieces. Just curious if you have tried this. I just ordered a new M2R Warrior Pro and was thinking that if the battery were to die, it would be better to use a standard battery which costs about $10, than the Olight battery that costs twice as much.

With a standard USB cable I have several home and at the office I could borrow a coworker's phone cable. Additionally I could find one in stock at any nearby cell phone or electronics shop.
With the proprietary cable I have one cable, unless I have several lights from the brand, and it's *extremely* unlikely my friends or coworkers would happen to have one at hand. If I need a cable I have to order it online and wait for it to be delivered. And I would probably have to pay a premium price for it as well.
It is more convenient for me to have one standard cable I can use with my phone and all my lights. And a few standard batteries that work in in all my lights. Proprietary cables and batteries are an inconvenience that I prefer to avoid.

@@MartinRathmanner_M4D_M4X The Seeker 3 / Seeker 3 Pro are "older models". So, as I stated, Olight has grown wise and "Newer Models" are not "positive backwards" anymore. All models moving forward are designed this way. Even the new Baton 3 & Warrior 3. They just released the Javelot Pro 2 / Warrior X 3.. you guessed it. They are also proprietary Olight battery only. The next iteration of the Seeker will be this way to. It's pure greed on Olight. The Baton 3 doesn't even have a tail switch, yet they don't want you using any other batteries, so it's like the rest. Do don't think the Seeker series is safe. Olight has declined because of this. Are we forced to use only Shell, Phillips 66 or Sinclair gas ONLY depending what car we buy ? Forced to use 1 gas type even if the other 2 are sold out ? No. It's pure corporate greed. This video fails to point out that important piece of information. He makes it seems like newbies are complaining because you can't use other batteries in Olights. And as a general rule. It's true. You can't, unless you have previous generations. And I have never seen any other manufacturers make a battery like Olights, so that theory of other duel ended pos/neg batteries is off the table.

@@MartinRathmanner_M4D_M4X Short answer. *I am 100% Correct* . This video is partly misinformation, the people he is/was criticizing are actually mostly Correct. Now we know Olight releases updated models every 2-3 months. So what I can't tell you, is when the threshold of "older Olights" and "newer Olights" began, for this whole battery shenanigans. Obviously it was sometime after the Seeker 3 and prior to the Baton 3 / Warrior 3. I know for a fact the Seeker series is considered "order" because I was gifted one on the October flash sale. They are trying to get rid of the Seeker 3/3 Pro because they have a new Seeker 4 right around the corner. Probably after Christmas, I assume.. for the new year. They are CONSTANTLY releasing "updated" models. Unfortunately for us, these "updated" models have ZERO battery compatibility.

not a fan at all of the latest olights, the company looks more and more like apple, a closed environment. I like freedom, i like to use the F batteries I want. Plus I'm a fan of mechanical switches and their new way of making flashlights without mechanical switches doesn't excite me. I've bought an m2r warrior recently and It was a delusion, the tailcap button was impossible to get used to, the light once turned on in my pocket and almost burned me because it went on turbo and didn't step down. Once I put it on charge and went to bed, I woke up with the led charger blinking red and green, once I detatched it from the flashlight in came on and won't turn off, I had to put the battery out. I immediately sent it back. That's sad beacuse I love the way olight used to be, the m1x striker is one of my favourite flashlights with the m23 javelot, the best 18650 thrower I own! I also have a r50 seeker pro LE and I hate the way olight force you to use their battery only to get the best performance out of their lights, the turbo mode doesn't work if you use any other 26650 cell! Olights are good only if you can get them on sale, otherwise they are overrated and overpriced, just like an iPhone!
