Another website service that's hackable to anyone with a VM and Metasploit... They don't have a very good Security track record these sites...
My dad, a Marine, used to tell me this joke.
In Britain, they use HMS, for Her Majesty's Ship. In America, they use USS, for United States Ship. In Italy, they use AMB, for Atsa My Boat!
I new that but not Italy XD
Im super obsessed with naval war history
😂😂😂😂 I’m Italian-American and I find that HIlarious!
@@Concetta20 I'm happy some of us can still laugh at ourselves 👍 Hell, I'm Irish and Welsh, I'm a walking English oppression joke, lmao
BOO! HISS! 😅
I'd love to see a video about Ostia Antica - it is the most well preserved ancient Roman city in the world. It's located 50 miles south of Rome and was covered by the river Tiber for 1000 years after being evacuated under threat of invasion.
PLEASE like this comment so that the guys see it, would make for a brilliant video that I know we would all enjoy.
What an operation to evacuate the Gibraltar civilian population by boat while avoiding mines and U-boats at the same time
respect to those involved
My husband and I were on a trip in Spain when we took a day trip to Gibraltar, we saw the highlights of the area (the apes were my favorite part) but I definitely want to go back and spend more time there. It was a lovely place.
They are monkeys (macaques) on Gibraltar. They are not apes. Apes have no tails.
Albert Pierrepoint was a close friend of my Grandfather.
My grandfather was beside him at the final hangings.
He served 5 years in the peacetime army in India prior to WW2, Worked up the ranks to Regimental Sargeant Major, and later was a head warden at Brindisi Military Prison for a few years.
I have a photograph taken in a portrait studio in Gibraltar in 1880’s. It is a photo of a young man wearing the dress uniform of the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders. The young man is my great grandfather who was on his way to a colonial posting-I don’t know where exactly! He made it back home to Scotland and had a family, including my grandfather. That photo sits next to the one of my father who served in WW2 in the American Army Air Corps at a base in England. He took a leave to visit our family in Scotland and had a photo done dressed in Highland Regimental uniform.
Two of my most prized possessions.

Yeah, Malta would make for a great episode!
Gibraltar has a lot more secret stories than what you have touch on here believe me.🇬🇮🇬🇮
Thank you for doing this piece. I spent some tine in Gib not long before the 2002 referendum and have always felt an attachment to the place, and a sympathy with the Gibraltarians. It's a fascinating place with a rich history, and I am always happy to see someone acknowledge this. Well done.
@jesusbermudez6775 Then I suppose you think all non-indigenous people should vacate North, South, and Central America? And I am quite confident that you would support the Spanish being booted out of Ceuta.
Can you please cover the Bronze Age Collapse? It would be a long one, I am sure, as so many different things happened at the same time, but it would be very interesting.
I second this, having always been intrigued by that event. As a writer, I hope to one day have it serve integrally to a story but am patiently awaiting a worthy idea.
@@michaeldurham5351 You could narrate the invasion of the Sea Peoples from their perspective. So, the PoV of the ‘bad guys’ considered one of the cause of the collapse. I read it was more of a mass migration than a mere invasion force. So the protagonists could be some teenage kids travelling in tow with their sea-raiding dad. (YA fiction sells well)
I don't think Gibraltar will ever join Spain its way too British and still quite an important foreward base for the military should they ever need it
Well we already have some Spanish influence here, is a unique mix of English/Spanish as expected, since we let in thousands of workers across the border since they get better wages here rather than in South Andalusia and it helps the workforce here so it’s win win. I’d say 80% of people here speak good Spanish, with many mixed families
Both English and Spanish get along here just fine, never if rarely any incidents among the people, just the Spanish government and some nationalists constantly pushing their revanchism. Which is hypocritical once you realize they have two enclaves on Northern Morocco almost triple the size of Gibraltar lol
We like the Spanish culture and people, but heavily dislike their government and management of things. Proud of our British roots who have built up the city beautifully and would never vote to rejoin Spain, whose incompetent government has equal unemployment and corruption rate as Iraq
@@FriedrichBarb "as corrupt as Iraq" 😭🤣
@jesusbermudez6775 Im originally Gibraltarian, raised there and born a British citizen so I know what im talking about, but I migrated, though I still hold that as my origin and is a part of me
@jesusbermudez6775 I would agree with you if you said English* but not for British, for that term has been multicultural for hundreds of years now, and the Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders, and countless other colonies were once considered British but overtime they developed their own culture and identity, which is exactly the same case for Gibraltarians.
Though overall youre correct that the Spanish cultural influence on Gibraltar is very strong, and is mostly bc the majority of people in Gibraltar have Italian ancestry so naturally this is the case.
@jesusbermudez6775 No thats just incorrect though yes there is a noticeable Spanish minority, though majority of surnames are Italian, and many there are pure English also, not just Soldiers thats also incorrect. As for culture yes its mixed im not denying that, but all of Gibraltar's Law, institutions, way of government and most importantly education system for the youth is British, majority of the youth in Gibraltar go to England for University and this is paid for by the government, which are then properly exposed to British culture. This makes a importance difference.
So basically if it weren’t for Hitler and the Nazis, Ian Fleming may never have been inspired to create the James Bond we know and love. Wild.
Every cloud has a silver lining 😏
So when is the episode about Malta to be made 🇲🇹😉
Ok jokerd
Wilhelm Canaris deserves his own video.
This is really interesting, thanks for sharing all this about Gibraltar, both videos were really informative and at times fun.
Great work by Simon and his teams, love this channel and the others, especially Causal Criminalist!
Thank you for this video. After the first one I was really curious about what happened there during the world wars.
I thoroughly enjoyed the video. Ignorance is bliss. I traveled to 'the Rock' in autumn of '85, apparently not long after it opened to traffic. I had no idea!
As a Brit who lives in southern Spain, I visit the territory regularly and it's my favourite place locally. The people there are very proud of being British and want to keep it that way 🇬🇧🇬🇮
Simon you forgot to mention the troops of monkeys that rule the upper slopes. When I visited there the monkeys over ran our car and demanded snacks. It reminded me of that terrible Planet of the Apes. Wait a minute, the Statue of Liberty? That was our planet! We finally did it, we blew it up!
Im so proud you went exacly where i wanted you to go as i started reading.
@@KamiRecca 😄
I’m Gibraltarian and I can confirm they sometimes decide to wage war even sometimes coming down the Rock to the city area lol
There’s also a funny saying here how “As long as monkeys are on the Rock , Gibraltar will remain forever British” since once their panic and cries gave away the Spanish position and element of surprise when they tried invading once
@@FriedrichBarb the monkeys were hilarious. They reached into our car for food. One sat on my head and my wife took a picture. It smelled terrible.
Please do a biographics on Admiral Canaris.
Juan March is the one you want...Quietly the world's biggest gangster and shit-stirrer for decades.
@@ARegularAffayre shoot do both haha.
Spain will eventually realise the value of the UK and US military bases in the Mediterranean.

Dude nearly got his hand chopped straight off haha. No sudden movements around swords. #1 rule
Boy, Sean Connery saying “welcome to the rock” has a different implication now
Evidently there is a fan theory that sean Connery character is really james bond. The americans captured him and mi6 dissavowed any knowledge. Hemce why he had the Kennedy microfilm
Good video!
No mention of Operation Flavius in March of 1988 where 3 members of the Provisional Irish Republican Army were shot dead by undercover SAS while trying to set up a terrorist attack.
A video about Canaris would be great
If you are talking about the Islands I just watched a few vids on the air crash there. Interesting.
My condolences to all the familys.
Oops. I'm sorry. I see who you are talking about now. Posted before watching the vid. And yes I would love to here more about him.
Ideas for new videos:
Venice
Genova
Naples
Palmanova
Italian lakes: Lake Como, Lake Garda, Lake Maggiore
Catania
Trieste
The Alps
Great Ocean Road in Australia
Strange you didn't elaborate on Ian Flemming and Goldeneye...
Simon! Love your videos and have started using them to educate my kids. On a tech note, this video, in particular, has weak audio level. (Great quality, low gain.) I have my CZcams volume at 100% and my PC volume at 100% and only then is the volume level for this video acceptable. Hope this is helpful. Best wishes. - Dave Ferreira (Harpoon Dreams)
Props to whoever chose the title for the video. I'm a sucker for alliteration.
Such a cool historic place.
I've been to Gibraltar. Its really amazing there.
My uncle is buried out there in the Army graveyard, i hope to go one day and pay respects since im name saked after the man.
Odd naming choice: DevilRedHD
@@honda6353 lol thats my pseudonym.. "Devil(ish) Red Head" but yeah that would be a funny gravestone huh 😂
This is the first time I've seen Simon go back somewhere.
We live in Gibraltar and it is an amazing place.
Simon! All of your channels are fascinating and of interest to me! Thank You!😎
Gibraltar 2: Electric Boogaloo
It's neither British nor Spanish, it's *OURS* comrades
Totally agree
How's the nuclear program going mate
Love Geographics, making my way through the back catalogue, keep up the good work my friend.
Brilliant. Another great video Simon. Wish you made tv shows 🤷🏻👏👌
The sequel we didn't know we needed
Excellent video; many thanks.
The one dislike was the French Navy
Ten more from the Italian Navy
😂
3 from the ‘RA
Gibraltar returns in this channel, but what about Falkland Island? Doesn't it deserve a video?
I've been to Gibraltar and man it's small and strange. Spanish people speaking English with British accents. Very unique place.
We're not Spanish, we're British by birth which is why we all speak english, it's the official language.
Gee, that blockade of Gibraltar in 1969 sounds much like when the Berlin Wall went up. And, today being in memory of that - 13 August.
Thank you for your great videos. 👍future episode idea might be Lake Missoula flood
We need a video of Albert Pierrepoint, even if Danny has to write it..
You should make one day a video about Tristan da Cunha and "neighbour" british territories of Saint Helena and Ascension Island
I know it is a controversial subject, but Operation Flavius in 1988 on The Rock was fairly recent, and what it sparked were two of the most talked about incidents during the troubles in Northern Ireland.
Spain: Give us back Gibraltar
Also Spain: Ceuta & Melilla are Spanish
Wouldn’t it be the man with the golden gun that features the ship
Thanks
Please can we get a Biographics on the hangman?
You need to do a video on Buster Crabb....and how he 'supposedly' died....
Would absolutely love to see a video about the nuclear disaster at Church Rock, New Mexico that contaminated the land and water and killed countless Indigenous people.
Rumor is that Prudential Insurance has a claim to Gibraltar too.
The prominent sound playing in the background @ 8:20 is a GarageBand sample loop
I love all your videos!!!
That's pretty nuts.
You ought to do a video on the Marquetalia Republic in Colombia.
“Wendy Gale”. Tell me that was just a code name. 😂
Golden Eye yes.
All of this madness over a rock
Greetings from the Rock of Gibraltar
Strange about invading Cape Verde since it was a Portuguese colony and Portugal was Neutral
How was the stay behind team going to spy if they couldn’t get out of the cave?
They would brick in the enterance behind them. There was 1 room and hidden balcony where you could view the harbor. Evidently it was hidden very well since although its existance was known noone found it for like 50 years. The bike powered the radio. Someone made a youtube video about it but i dont remember who. Maybe Simon but it was definitely interesting
Can you do an episode on the history of redheads!?!?
A British person fascinated with Gibraltar?? Say it ain't so! The Yanks aren't this enamored of say, Guam.
I would bet a large minority if not most Brits dont even know what Gibraltar is, especially among youth, but I could be wrong. Is nice when us 40,000 get some attention though, for once lol
Thank you for returning to Gibraltar, fact boy!

wow, excellent education. thank you
Yeah the italians crossed the med, but the kentai kesson crossed half the pacific only to find the carriers not there. I guess they each made the best of it though
696k subs. Absolute legend
Wow I LOVE FREE Adblocker for youtube, your video seemed riddled with ads and I did not get a single one. I just skipped through your verbal adds too. Loads of really old shots of Gib in there and I am talking about the new ones. I was actually interested in Villa Carmela but you just used that old shot from the internet.
honestly, being stuck in a cave with provisions waiting to listen in on an invasion would not be the worst way to spend WWII. though boring and potentially madness-inducing, bring a bunch of books and you're still living a better life than 90% of Eurasia at the time
Love your channel Simon and crew long time subscriber here! I've been interested in "The Vigário Geral Massacre" but can't find much info on it. If you guys could grace us with a cool little doc I'd really appreciate it. Keep up the good work!
Considering the German military tested it's equipment, manpower and tactics in Spain in support of the fascist Franco, it's no surprise that Spain was in a position to help the Germans in their efforts of binning Gibraltar. Didn't work though.....🇬🇧🇬🇧✌✌
Brilliant video 📹
I'm not early, I'm on time
Buster Crab, like Simon, a total legend.
This is a really informative video! Could you do one about pathfinder or bloodhound next? I love apex legends!
