I too love coleus!!! I grew mine into a tree!!! I let the main stem grow about 3 feet tall, cut off all the side shoots and let the top bush out! Pinching the growth, and now I have a lollipop tree! Took 3 years but it looks sooooo cool now!

My husband isn't really into plants. But he has been talking about one he saw at a friends for the last 3 weeks. Today I ask that friend what kind of plant it is so I can make my hubby happy. And guess what plant it was 😂😂
    You have perfect timing 😂😂

I am new with Coleus plants, literally just a few days ago , and I am going crazy with having as many varieties as possible coz they're so pretty. I really thought I have 12 varieties of cuttings, but when I saw the first and this second video, I think I might have been fooled. I am from the Philippines and we do have a lot of sunlight everywhere all year round, so I will have to observe if the green ones with tinges of violet will eventually turn all dark. I would really like to have the darker varieties. I was also afraid that I am putting too much cuttings in one pot (I have an 11" diameter by 9" depth) , but seeing how much you "crowd" your pot, I think I am on the right track and I can put in some more. I am still in the stage of propagating the cuttings that I got, and you gave me a lot of hope that I can do this! I am so glad I found you and your videos Pam!

I buy a bag of cheap seeds at the dollar store every year and plant them outside. When they germinate I pick a few of the prettiest or most interesting to come inside as houseplants, they always wound up dying in the winter. Thanks for helping me not only make them look gorgeous, but thrive all year long!

I bought a coleus for its beautiful pastel like pinks and yellows and then I put it in a bright spot and it’s colours quickly deepened to dark pink and the yellow became a white. I think. I was a little disappointed I didn’t take a picture of it before. I like how it looks now but I liked how it looked before it was in bright light. 😅
My bird also loves pulling the bright foliage off my coleus.

The leaves uncurled and everythhing! I was so happy because they were nice big colorful leaves

I have a pretty Kong and I love him! He's a diva as far as watering lol 😆 but I just love him so much.
Funny story, I was gifted my Kong just from cuttings last month and I had no idea what I was looking for when I went to pick up the cuttings. The gifter left them on a rock outside her house and I almost didn't want to take them home when I saw them. There were some straggly, limp, dead looking stems...once I got him trimmed down and in a cup of water, they bounced back immediately and have TAKEN OFF so fast in my kitchen. I'm actually afraid of the first growing season lol I have a feeling this plant is gonna be YUGE. ❤️

Really enjoyed watching your video. Super informative. I have a leggy coleus. I brought a few in a pot into my work place. It has flowered and I did want to know if it was going to die or if I could remedy that. I have since taken 3 cuttings and put them in a modern martini glass and will repot once it has rooted. The rest of the plant is on the floor, since the window sill is too cold now. I will let the 3 flower heads turn brown and then clip them and store them in a bag for 2 weeks and collect the seeds for next spring. Thanks again for the thorough explanation. I look forward to giving new life to my office plant for the winter.

OK Pam most of us who watch YT know that your a Coleus Advocate.
So how about enlightening us with some varieties? Just like Kaylee with her rare plant index. Coleus index if you will coz seriously I also think coleus are beautiful but also underated. Plus I truly wish ever plant parent should have one in their home.
Anyhoo just a thought. 😊 love the video again. Plus whoa an 8 year pot. That's amaaaazing!

Hahah well that’s her thing but I could definitely assemble a video on some interesting cultivars! It’s hard to find much about them, they’re so dang under appreciated

Also watching you water your cutting me at the end made me remember that I used to use a turkey badger too do the same thing. Have you seen the squirt bottles with the little straw in them? Like the ones I think a scientist would use 😂😂😂 I found them on amazon and it was seriously a game changer. I keep one in each room and if something needs a a quick water it’s right there. They are great for watering in small areas and for topping of propagation vessels with narrow tops. I don’t use them for my main watering but they are great for a quick squirt 😂 anyways, just thought I’d share- keep doing you!

Loved your video. Very informative. Coleus is my favorite plant. I planted too many seeds in my foil pan. They are just germinating now. When should I thin them out? Thanks girl. You rock!!

I bought my grandmother a pretty coleus a few years ago. She had a green thumb and loved growing. When she passed earlier this year the plant came back to me … death by Jess 🤦‍♀️ I’m trying my damnedest to keep this thing alive. It’s leggy and the stems are woody. Recently brought the pot in due to colder weather and the leaves are falling off - some have transparent spots. Checked for pests unsuccessfully. Don’t know why I’m rambling and telling you all this 😂 Actually just came here to say thanks for the informative and entertaining tutorial.

Omg no pressure, eh? 😅 I have some pieces of my late Nanas plants too and I feel great obligation to keeping them alive!!

My Coleus is a mix of one I grew from seed and also a cutting from a friend. It KEEPS flowering and I keep pinching. Sounds like I need to do a heavy prune. Also growing in an Eastern window.

Another tip is that they actually don’t root at the nodes, they root all along the stem so you don’t have to take that into consideration when you cut it 😁

    Questions for part 3!
    1. You mentioned possible plant shock when moving from indoor to outdoor, does that apply to trimmings?
    2. My coleus was fairly leggy before I started pinching, now I got a long-ass bushy top baby and I’m wondering if I should just fight back the tears and start fresh? Cut it way back? Have you had any of yours do this?
    3. Same plant seems to have gone to flower 4 or 5 times now? Hasn’t died! I trim them back and save the tips, I’m curious if that’s just based on where I live... plant is on my north porch in southern california: bright but never direct sun.

Hi!!! Thanks for this video!! I have a question about my coleus, it’s a rambla coleus and I have to main stems growing pretty leggy. I want to chop & prop but I don’t know where to chop it at!! Should I chop a little bit at the top, or can I go for the middle? Do I need to cut leaves before trying to root? I feel weird about chopping it but it’s getting tall and almost leaning lol. Thank you :)
