    "Downsize" your refrigerator, put anything that will spoil into the bottom crispers with "blue ice" packs in the crispers, then pile towels from the bathroom on top of that as insulation. I have actually done this.

    Does it consume more elecrricity if it hgas no power and keep opening the fridge for more that 9 hours?

    What about ice placement?? And , I put some gas station ice in the bottom of the fridge, and it made a mess when it melted

    Good tips. But do you really need the quarter? Couldn't you just put a glass of water in the freezer and see how much it melted? I love that idea. He's right. How can you tell other than poking your frozen foods to see if they're still hard? Its very imprecise.
