PSA is doing good work. They seem to be one of the few companies that are legit trying to give us what we want. May not be perfect but pretty damn good!
I completely agree!
I have a PSA AK-101 classic with the 90 degree gas block and the traditional muzzle brake with M24x1.5 RH threads. Great gun for the price, clone-ish and I have had no issues at the range. I think the gun you have is the, PSA AK-101AKM.
Ya I just saw that classic after uploading this video and I dropped that link in my description that is a much better option.
Nothing against 5.45 but in the USA, the round is essentially dead and unlikely to be revived.
I have a 5.45 barrel for an ar15. It shot fantastic. Super low felt recoil. Plenty accurate with tulammo. It would be nice to see these bs infringements delt with.
@@fattigla oh I agree but I don’t think that will be any time soon
@@Gabthar it's good to see psa at least stepping up and making an effort to supply their customers with ammo.
And PSA killed it x.x
I have a feeling, when the import bans are lifted. We will see mass inflow of 5.45 and ak74's. That being if war in Ukraine ends + import bans lifted. It's a big "if" but not impossible.
I bought a case 500rnds of red army standard 5.45x39 last week on a local online auction for $200. I was happy i found it and apparently not alot of other people were watching or they didn't have an ak74.
Huh that’s not bad at all ya that was a good find
I've been waiting for this one dude. Been lusting after a 5.5y ak just don't know which one. Thanks for the excellent contentas always.
Oh no problem at all man I’m glad you liked it! I actually posted in the description this same 101 but with a 74 brake and cleaning rod it looks mint
Very cool thanks for sharing, waiting to see when/how KUSA KR-101 does. Great stuff as always.
Ya I am pretty bummed with their Q/C still it’s a little rough
@@FirearmFreedom Thinking about picking up a WBP in 5.56, AOA has the DIY kit for $799. 👍
I'm really liking the red furniture. Thanks for the share!!
Ya it looks excellent thanks for watching!
I choose the PSA ArK-556 rifle, the AR15 mags was my big selling point
Nothing wrong with that, still a great choice thanks for the comment!
How do you like that AK556, barely any body has done reviews on it besides Texas Plinking. Is yours a 13.7" or a 16" set up?
the 16" rifle version, I love it!@@trevorstein4603
This looks like an AKM chambered in 5.56 because of the 45 degree gas block and rear tang trunnion. The 100 series AKs have 90 degree gas blocks and side folding rear trunnions. This looks like a Romanian WASR 3 or Polish WBP Jack 5.56. You could get the same rifle for 600 if you get the Polish Pioneer Arms AK sporter in 5.56 and it comes with a cleaning rod.
PSA thinks AKM is 100 series. Just look at what else they call a 100 series. They are just dressed up AKM's.
i have the 74M style 101, video in my profile with KNS piston installed. It had some issues (bad extractor, bent piston) but I sent it back for warranty and got it fixed. it has virtually no felt recoil with the KNS and 74 style brake, but I still wouldn't trust my life with it. I have a FTF every 200 rounds or so. incredibly fun gun otherwise!
Huh bummer that’s definitely not the best I will have to check out your video thanks for the comment man!
Slapped a flash hider on mine right out of the box lol. Ran mine hard first trip out, ran flawless. Super fun gun, definitely one of my favorites right now. Fingers crossed they drop a premium model with the fn barrel I would snatch one of those in a heartbeat.
That is definitely the move, thanks for watching!
Exactly what I thought about the muzzle brake. I've heard that the 74 style break is really rough too, especially indoors. Would a standard A2 birdcage work well, and do you still need a crush washer? Alternatively, how about an AKM style slant brake?
Really tempted to pick this up, currently it’s between this and a zastava m90. Both are 5.56x45 and It’s a $550 difference with zastava being more expensive but probably better quality.
the Zastava is probably also heavier because most of them are. heavier trunnion, thicker receiver.
off all my stamped receiver AK's my Zastavas are noticeably the heaviest.
Great rifle! I am planning on building PSA ak 102. Triangle folding stock , wood furniture and ak 74 brake. Its gonna be great.
Great video, thanks. Will this Ak take a 74 style break??? Thanks, from Mesa, Arizona. P.S., i have been eyeing one of these 101s for a while now.
You would have to find a brake threaded 1/2x28 which may be a little tough. But the first link in the description is actually of a model that I think is even better with a 74 style brake and cleaning rod!
Well its crazy cause even 223 here in VA is around $12-$15 a box. 556 is hard to find and if you do its $15 ..... I don't want to shoot anything
Shotgun is the best bang for the buck right now.
Dude why are you buying ammo In stores? Insanity 😂😂😂 buy online and you'll be fine. I'm lost 😂
Ya that’s brutal o would definitely try out ammo seek online however lowest I am seeing is around 8-10 a box
@@FirearmFreedom that's as cheap as it gets. I wouldn't imagine anything less than $8-10 a box..
5.45 is coming in now expensive but its coming in through tella implex if im not mistaken. Bought 1k 7.62x39 from them have yet to test it but we will see how that goes.
Yupp I just saw that of course immediately after this video lol or I would have mentioned it. But man $29 a box is just brutal
Unfortunately but it seems to be the trend for a while. Love the content keep it up man.
For their 5.56 AK’s I would really like to see the following options:
-FNH cold hammer forged, chrome lined barrels.
-An underfolder stock (The straight style).
-An adjustable gas piston (I believe KNS makes them?).
I’d buy one right now if I could get that in a PSA 5.56 AK.
Ya that would be pretty sweet!
Probably get all that from Rifle Dynamics or Meridian Defense. Wouldn’t hold my breath for PSA to crank out anything like that on the cheap.
@@bronzeguy9839 I didn't realize they offered cold, hammer forged/chrome lined barrels? How are the prices on those compared to PSA?
Anyone know if m85 steel mags would fit on the psa Ak 101?
Bought a pre ban AMD65 several years ago, it’s a thumper. Can’t decide if I want an AK chambered in anything but 7.62. I have several 5.56 AR’s.
I bought one about a year ago and the fit and finish on. It was so bad I sent it back for a replacement. The replacement gun was much better, but I had to get one of the bigwigs involved because they tried canceling my order after I filled out on the form That they needed to replace the gun because it was that bad. Fortunately I’m an AK whore, and I’m intimately familiar with what to look for to tell if it’s a bad gun, mine came with the 74 style break and I get 2 to 3 foot flames shooting out of it in all directions when shooting XM 193, might I mention I was shooting on an indoor range so I’m sure the other people were not very happy
Huh very interesting that is not great lol thanks for the comment and the data point!
I didn’t like the muzzle break either when I got a WBP kit build 101 from PSA and swapped it out for a more ak 74 style muzzle break
Will Galil sar magazines work in this rifle ....35 and 50 rounders....
Unfortunately they will not
Did I see you running AC unity mags in this?
Yessir they ran just fine
we need to get together and compare that bad boy to my Vepr in 223.
Got an AR as my first rifle and missed out on a 556 VEPR in 2018. SAD! $950!
I'll bring my Saiga 223 lol
I would definitely do that at some point the veprs are solid 👍🏻
Lmao I saw tons of 5.45 available on ammo seek I bought a lot of it recently, same with tela impex 5.45 ammo is available
Hmm interested I checked ammo seek the day before this video went live and it was quite bleak. I did see Teleammo which seems to be the best bet at the moment
Nice to see Tim Pool branch out
I would prefer a slant brake to that two port. An ak in 5.56 shouldn't have much recoil.
Ya this two port is awful lol
Looks like AK. Smells like AK, makes fun AK noises, but not built like how an ak should be built.
Eh idk I completely understand the hesitation but so far their recent AKs I’ve taken a look at have been excellent
@@FirearmFreedom that's good to hear. Personally, I hope American companies can eventually put out a product that's even better.
Beware PSA, they don't dimple their receivers into their trunions and they don't use swell-neck rivets. Very bad.
Needs vs video against PSA AR
Not a bad idea!
The fact that the 7n6 ban didn’t tell literally everyone how fragile reliance on importation is blows me away. It went from 15 cents per round to match 7.62x39 overnight with proof an administration can go as far as they like with imports
Oh hey, an "AK 101" with a 45-degree gas block, 14x1 LH threads and a fixed stock. Maybe they should just call it something different? because it sure AF aint a 101.
I agree PSA continually mis names these guns unfortunately they did it with the 20” “A2” I reviewed that was definitely not an A2
This is their cheaper ak-101 AKM version, has 1/2x28 threads directly on the barrel, which is the one thing I like about it for supressing it. I would love a 90 block with that thread pattern.
I'm just really bugged that they market this as an AK101 when it's not even close
Ya I feel you there it is definitely not a 101 in any way
They have an AK101. This is not it.
Calling it a 101 is bad marketing... raises ak pinky; tho I am very happy with PSA and their offerings.
PSA does have different variations of this gun, including ones with a 90° gas block, 24mm threads, and side folding or fixed stocks. But yeah this version one should not be labled as an AK-101.
I agree it also usually smokes me in the comment section because I put that name in the title and say it in the video. However I am just doing that because it is the name that PSA designates for this gun.
The sent you the cheap model my ak has a cleaning rod
The Death of 5.45x39 …. 😢
Watching 7.62x39 on life support.
Very true it’s a sad sad day
I need to find mags for mine
The PSA mags seem very solid
@@FirearmFreedom I'll look into it
@@FirearmFreedom thanks
@@jevondismuke5252 you can convert 5.45 mags with a follower swap, I have a bunch of plum Bulgarian mags I printed followers for holds about 32 rounds
WBP jack 5.56 vs psa ak 101
I would probably take the jack all day long those are great rifles.
No comparison. WPB Jack all day.
I like PSA, and I do like AKs...but I like AKs for the 762x39 and for the super low price they both used to be. Things have changed, and neither are cheap any longer. A 5.56 AK does not make any sense to me, as an AR is much more useful rifle than an AK is. Not saying 'better'...just more versatile and useful....and also, thanks to PSA....more cost effective.
I completely understand your points man thanks for the comment!
What’s the price bud
These ones are around 1099, I have a link in my description to an even better one I found for around the same price
I love Palmetto. I also love AKs, and understand about the ammo. But, this isn't for me. I did get the JTS AK12 T1 shotgun, it looks like a great setup.
Nothing wrong with that thanks for the comment!
45 degree gas block shame
Definitely makes it not a 101 even if PSA models it that lol
Umm.. I Love PSA & actually just picked up another GF3. But my man... That is NOT a 100 series AKM🤔 100 series AKM'S have 90° gas blocks or combo gas blocks. *as far as I know & I believe so anyway* if I am wrong then I'm sorry for a stupid comment... But I *think* I'm correct though
I'm REALLY NOT even trying to be that guy breaking your balls brother... Do you & keep up the good work but that being said... I just don't want you to be putting out the WRONG info & sounding like u don't know what you're talking about ya know my dude?!? Hopefully no hard feelings... But I just couldn't NOT tell you bro!🤙
Correct, all 100 series AK's should be a 90° Gas Block set with the thinner Front Post sight or the integrated 90° Gas Block Front Sight Post combo.
Oh trust me I know this lol I appreciate the comment I titled the video that and said the model in the video because that is what PSA names this particular gun. So if people are looking for it on the website I don’t want them to get confused thinking it’s a different model.
Dude I buy 5.45x39 all day long lmao. I've been shooting thousands of rounds this year alone. I really think anyone saying 5.45 isn't available isn't seriously looking. I literally have thousands of 5.45 and rare ammo too. I have a ar15 in 5.45, and psa ak105 and have been constantly shooting it for past year and some change. 5.45 all day everyday... I don't wanna reveal my source but I'm getting 5.45 at .50c a round
Damn wish you would reveal your source for .50 a round I haven’t seen that in a long time 👀 if you ever want to let me know shoot me a dm on Instagram lol
@@FirearmFreedom tbh I use gunbroker and type in all types of phrases based around 5.45x39. I literally scour Google and time filters for 5.45x39 ammo. But Gunbroker has been my go to.. allot of stuff is drying up no lie. Red standard army is what I'm shooting now. But My store in south florida has 5.45 available and in stock. I don't shoot Hornady Black because it's defensive ammo
Spend 10$ get cleaning rod
This is true lol
Baloney needing trap door. Yes I am American
I would be more concerned about the bore not being chrome lined than I would about not having a cleaning rod or a trap door.
It's Nitrided... that's better for most firing regimes than chrome and more accurate to boot. Shooting corrosive 5.56 isn't really a thing either.
@@Whiskey11Gaming chrome lined bore have nothing to do with corrosive ammo. Chrome lined bore hold up to heat which happens during long strings of fire. They also last much longer than non chrome lined bores.
@timothyfreed6959 chrome lining has everything to do with corrosive ammo and heat tolerance. Chrome was originally chosen because of its resistance to the corrosive salts formed by corrosive ammo as a barrel lining and they found the added wear resistance over unlined barrels made it good for machine gun barrels.
According to Faxon barrels, Nitride actually provides better corrosion resistance but slightly worse wear resistance. Things you learn!
@@Whiskey11Gamingyeah I’ve actually heard great things about nitride. They appear to be better at corrosion. Seems to me like a good nitride is the way to go for civilians.
Where my cleaning rod club at???
Aweeeeee, poor baby. My whittle ears hurt.
I knew that was coming but I swear man this one sucks 🤣
PSA blows - I know, I own one.
Hard pass on psa lol I only grab imports but if I was to get any us made aks I’d have to go with kusa they just have a far better track record with aks over psa
Who else is a member of the cleaning rod squad?
Use a linear comp and problem solved.
