    90s music gear promo videos are the most beautiful genre of anything ever made. A slice in history where everything aligned to produce perfect. Never before, and never again, will such unironic perfection be reached as this. Dear god, it's so beautiful.

    Bought mine a few years back for less than £200, use it quite often for some productions, along with my CS1x and Korg Minilogue, although the Prophecy can be a right bitch to programme, endless menu system.
    It's easier to put it through an effects rack than try and sort out the onboard effects, much faster.

  • @samsamba08
    @samsamba08 Před 12 lety +3

    I agree, the "lead gtr" patch Hammer is playing sounds quite a lot like the one on the Miami Vice theme...which isn't that impressive considering this came out in 1995 ;)

  • @dvamateur
    @dvamateur Před 10 lety +3

    I used to have this VHS tape. You could get that from Keyboard magazine, cut out the slip and mail it and you'd get the VHS tape back. However, as far as the distorted guitar sound, Jan Hammer was able to achieve far more convincing sound back in the '80s, that's my opinion. It was a nice synthesizer overall though, the Prophecy. Although I far more preferred the M1, T-series, and Wavestation. Oh well, these were good old days. Not too many desirable products today. Maybe Yamaha Motif XF7 and Jupiter-80 are okay, but expensive. Still there's some magic missing which was present in those late '80s and very early '90s synthesizers, which were more of musical instruments, as opposed to lots of software in cheap plastic enclosure, which is what we see in most of today's products. Did industrial design died altogether nowadays?

    • @_EightySix
      @_EightySix Před rokem +1

      what about today? 🤣🤣🤣

    • @dvamateur
      @dvamateur Před rokem +1

      @@_EightySix Oh, today it's much better, a lot of desirable instruments: Korg Nautilus, Roland RD-2000, Jupiter-X, Juno-X, Sequential Prophet-5/10, and Oberheim OB-X8. Problem is that I had to wait one year for the Jupiter-X to be in stock. And right after I bought it, it's out of stock again. So if I wanted to buy a backup, I can't. Even if I had the money, it doesn't matter, because the main problem is that the new instruments I want are rarely available. But, there are desirable models again, which is what's most important, because we have reason again to make money to buy something we want.

    Cheez on a chip, in a plastic box, but the worst thing is keyboarders playing the same tired lines no matter the sound. Ppl fondly remember analog synths because the electronic sound was fatter, the music more interesting, the instruments were classier and better built.

    • @RagedContinuum
      @RagedContinuum Před 7 lety +2

      Arabic players need modeled acoustic sounds for their performances.. analog emulations are an added bonus.. they aren't 100% the same, but they are extremely close

    Who the hell's doing the awful McCarthy-era voice over? Dreadful. Yep, I had one of these synths in the 90s and sold it a long time ago. Great sounds and controllers except for the five performance knobs which were terrible: too close together and way too slippy, especially if you had any sweat on your hands; I put rubber bands around them which helped a bit, but still too fiddly. Now I've got the VST version so am enjoying revisiting all these old sounds - great!

      $2000 versus $300. I'll go Prophecy.
      The Prodigy used both in their time so probably shows what a bargain the Prophecy was and still is; and what a rip-off price you have to pay for modern synths.

  • @SPAZZOID100
    @SPAZZOID100 Před 12 lety +1

    it really looks stupid and not very pleasant with it's physical design.
    Also, they keep mentioning "vintage" this and that and comparing the prophecy to that...but in the vintage days, synths were made of steel and wood, not PLASTIC.

WHY ? Contact me now, we need to fire your dude and hire me instead because you have no clue what you're doing.
