Excited for you that you got your quilt back. You're so close now! I LOVE your hat! You did a great job and it looks great on you! I hope that, in time, you'll love it too!

Your hat is perfect and looks adorable on you. If it were much smaller it would look like a man’s hat because they always like wearing theirs tight. So wear it with pride, you did a beautiful job on it.
Love, love, love your quilt. I can’t wait to see it once you’ve added the binding.

Your quilt is gorgeous! I love the hat on you. That color is so pretty. I don't like it when hats are tight. I liked the gnome stitches you showed. I might have to try one. I hope your cold disappears.

Love the quilt. I adore French General fabrics the colours are so gorgeous
Hs in french seem mostly decorative and mostly aren't actually pronounced. La Vie Bohème is la vie bo em. L'homme is lom, en haut is en oh.
Knitting will get less stressful for you when you do more of it. Granted it feels as if you are going to drop a stitch or do something horrible but it WILL get easier. Really.

Liz, I don't normally comment on this kind of thing on Flosstube videos because it's not really important, BUT I HAVE to say, you look FANTASTIC!! You're always glowing and beautiful, but you in fall colors is *chef's kiss*!
Congratulations on your quilt! What an accomplishment! You are so good at choosing fabrics and way to stick with that really challenging design!

I know it's easier said than done, but if you can find a way to shift your mindset away from complete knitting perfection, I think that will help a lot!!! I've been knitting for a very long time & I still make mistakes constantly - it happens & it's totally ok!! My first hat was not wearable, my first blanket was a trapezoid, my first scarf had a giant hole -- the difference is, I learned when I was young & hadn't started being embarrassed/frustrated by my mistakes yet.
You will never learn to fix a mistake, if you don't make a mistake a fix! So really, any mistakes you make now, are just helping your future self out 🙂

First of all, your hair looks fabulous! Great video. Your quilting , hat and cross stitch piece turned out great. Do you also do punch needle? It’s yet another obsession to add to the list! Thanks for taking the time to film!

I have the gnome to do in 2024 also. I have 5 of the six, the bunny was out of stock. I always have extra threads and beeds. I keep the needles, (one is stitching, one is bleeding) so I’ve collected quite a few. Love the glass frames. I’ll have to get a few. Looking forward to the jingle ball. I’m starting the stitching this week. TTFN!

Liz, my first knitted hat turned out so big that it did not fit anybody’s head… so I turned it into a pouch/bag… I added a string at the “rim of the hat” and it sort of looked like a drawstring pouch that my daughter used for some of her doll stuff… so it wasn’t a total waste… So don’t feel bad… yours is actually very much wearable…
Hope you’re feeling better soon! Greetings from the other side of the States, Seattle.❤

Liz, next time have your long arm person to square it up for you. If you don't do that right you will have trouble with your binding. At least that works better for me.

  • @theevergreenneedle
    @theevergreenneedle Před 10 měsíci

I have some knitting commentary, I hope it's helpful but maybe it will be too much lol. Regarding your hat, if it's an issue of fit more than an issue of style, you could try sewing some elastic along the inside of the brim so that it fits more snugly around your head. I know sometimes slouchy beanies are annoying for me because of how they fit more than how they look.
I think the best way to get past your fear of dropping stitches, is to knit up a sample of knit fabric and purposely drop stitches and then let them unravel a couple rows down so that you can practice fixing them. On a sample of knitting it won't be as stressful to do this or struggle with fixing the stitches like it would be on an actual project. Another option is to add a lifeline to your knitting at periodic intervals, that way if you drop stitches and you can't fix them, you can just unravel the project up to the lifeline and then get back on track. Also, wood needles have more grip and can help in the beginning to prevent stitches from slipping off the needle so easily.
I went back to your last video to see the comments about drying. I would be careful with any single ply yarn, it will be more likely to felt- single ply yarn is also more likely to pill with wear. Something I didn't see mentioned was the differences in wool and whether it is superwash or non-superwash. The properties you read about wool will apply the most to non-superwash wool which is wool in its natural state after shearing off the sheep (or other animal). Superwash wool is chemically treated to be easier to care for (machine washable/dryer "safer"). Superwash yarn is known for stretching out with blocking & wear and can lose its shape/structure (this is due to the chemical treatment changing the wool's natural properties), this can sometimes be restored with careful drying in the dryer- tons of people have no issue with drying their superwash wool items and they don't shrink to the point of a ruined item. Superwash yarn is also the most common wool yarn that is sold because of the ease of care, the softness, drape, and how it takes to dyeing-the colors are richer and more vibrant and has a nice sheen to it. Many yarns will usually say SW or superwash on the label, but not always; I typically assume a yarn is superwash unless it says otherwise, especially if it's a rich, vibrant color. Non-superwash wool is typically what gets the reputation for being scratchy and will felt and shrink (to the point of a ruined item) if thrown into the washer/dryer- you have to be much more deliberate with its care but it also doesn't need to be washed as much as we are used to washing clothes. NonSW wool doesn't grow in size like SW wool does and has more structure in the final item, it's really good for colorwork knitting, and has better warmth than superwash.
I don't mean to insult your intelligence if you already know these things, I just remember it was confusing for me when I first started knitting and I didn't know these things and its just not always easy to find all these tidbits of information or tips, sometimes they just become so commonplace for knitters they don't get talked about much; maybe this will be helpful to someone reading as well.
Hope you feel better soon :)

Your hat looks great especially with the bobble on it. I don’t think anyone else will notice it’s a bit big. I don’t notice when I watch. And I too 0:02 find there is not enough time for all of the arts and crafts. But isn’t it fun? Can’t wait to join you in your classes at the jingle ball. I’ve signed up for both. 😊 hope you feel better!
