Thank you for this informative video. I really liked the way you showed the stages of cutting on the quarter as a size gauge throughout the cutting process.
This was my dream ring 28 yrs ago when my hubby and I got married but yellow diamonds were not a thing like they are today. They were sold as lesser diamonds because of their color and what WERE available were so heavily included they weren't worth buying. Most places just did NOT have what I was looking for. This ring is STUNNING all the way around.
When they grind it on a wheel, or 'polish' it, that's when they are adding the facets. If I'm not mistaken, the only time they will really 'cut' the diamond is when it is still in its very rough shape. Although it seems pretty unremarkable, you did see the diamond take shape (through 'polishing' it on the wheel').
Corey Williams I'm right there with PlanetRockJesus - I have never found a video or even a description of how a diamond is cut into two pieces. They mention it in the video, but do not demonstrate how it is done. I have always wondered what is used to split a diamond into halves! If anyone can elaborate, I'd be very grateful.
wow ! im a pedantic my job loving mega yacht builder and i thought i love my job because of the precision in finishing bits. but this .... just wow man incredible.
Does it really take weeks to cut a diamond?! I thought max one or so. Wouldnt the diamonds value afterwards be lost since Im sure it would cost a small fortune to make it if it would take that long??
This video reminds me of swiss watches video that they show such old complex looking machines at work to make look supper difficult to make to wow everyone, where as in reality its all done with CNC machines in china and packed and assembled in swiss to call it Swiss Made! Im not diamond making expert but these look like first world war machines and techs im sure now a days its actually made differently with more advance machines to minimise the human error
Ahh a wise guy eh that goes around disagreeing with everyone? Fact: Diamond is the hardest natural material known to man. 10 on Mohs scale bub... "It's not hard" though. Thanks for your input and have a great day.
Fantastic explanation !!!! Cheers!!! I had no idea the time that would take to cut and polish a diamond. Great!!!! Work of ART!!!
Gosh, that rough diamond is even beautiful as is!

I wonder how they cut diamonds in the early 1900's when they didn't have all this fancy tech!
The same way but with old discs and using the hand to cut the diamonds. Old cut, single cut, more modern cut is full cut diamonds .
They bite with their teeth only!

In West Borneo Ngabang we find precious diamonds everyday unfortunately we dont know how to cut it. Thank you for showing me the tool machine
will they be able to use/sell the scraps and facets due to cutting?
This video didn't really show how the diamond was cut. We kept seeing it clamped and taking shape, but they skipped the actually cutting.

Diamonds weren't rare enough to be exclusive and cool to own, so we made them incredibly expensive to make them exclusive and cool to own again.
Isn’t that exactly what happened? Ain’t it like 1 company that owns like 90% of all diamonds on earth?? All a marketing scam
where is the rest of cuts? was it going to waste? how did it go? did it rubbed it through until getting its shape? just wondering
diamond crystal before and after cutting lost like 60% of entire volume
The reminder is also used to create smaller diamonds
