    Watch me go from concept to complete rolling chassis for my omnidirectional tractor project, using only scrap steel. Over 27 inches of wheel articulation, with no suspension!

    I need a bounty of steel like you've got. 😂

      Keep an eye on Marketplace for businesses closing down or moving premises. They'll normally give you steel at scrap rates if you can cart it away.

    Based on the different views of the axle assembly you have a coil sprung to leaf conversion from a Range rover classic/disco1/ defender with D1 rims. You Should be able to find a cheap rebuild kit for the calipers.
    D1 rims are great if you want to change the offset, many guys even flip the centre to silly offsets.

      If it is as I suspect the diff ratio will be 3.54:1, if you want to gear down lower just use a series 3 or 2a diff centre as they are 4.7:1

    • @weldeddaydreams
      @weldeddaydreams  Před měsícem

      That's super helpful, thanks! I know it's something Land Rover as I measured the PCD to find the wheels. The diff was coil sprung when I found it, obviously not any more. I did end up finding some brakes that fit with a tiny bit of clearancing from a later model Defender, that have a regular brake line and nipple instead of whatever nonsense was the dual brake line and triple nipple of the old calipers. The latest problem is trying to make a tie rod, I can't find an 11/16 16tpi nut anywhere, will probably end up having to weld some kind of metric adapter to the tie rod ends. Probably should have just started with a Japanese diff but too late now lol.

      @@weldeddaydreams where are you based? The land rover community is a bloody good bunch and most of us have a pile of spares to keep our old clunkers running. The defender caliper has an larger piston diameter and more potential stopping power. The dual lines were part of the fancy for its time ABS system in the range rover and Disco 1. You can just block one line to use them as normal. Or even better, use one line as normal brakes from the master and the other line as fiddle brakes for crazy tight cornering.

      @NathanNostaw I'm in Brisbane. With the info you've provided, is seems I have a Disco 1 front diff. I'd be happy to donate a couple of dual line calipers to the community in exchange for a tie rod :)

      @@weldeddaydreams I'll take you up on that. I'm pretty sure I have at least one here in Ipswich, or in my Landy grave yard out at boonah.

    Down the line you will likely need to change the pivot bearing to bronze bishes as the roller bearings need to he in rotation to hamdle the impact and vibration. The top and bottom rollers will fail first as they imbed into the races. They will be Good enough for now though.

    • @weldeddaydreams
      @weldeddaydreams  Před měsícem

      Yeah you're probably right. I'm expecting them to last a fair while with the kind of low speed operation this machine will see, and it's easy enough to unbolt them and rotate 90 degrees if they wear as you predict. Hopefully by the time they are completely shagged I'll have enough Pateron support to afford a lathe and I can spin up some bronze bushes, but I'll probably just put new bearings in it 😂

      @@weldeddaydreams what will make the last longer is big cycles of the articulation regularly over just bouncing around with the same couple of rollers sitting in one place.

    Need skate boys wheels that hide in shoes with extreme longevity and maybe electric powered then a cane with a roller skate wheel that has extremely long range hidden in a cane 😅

    • @weldeddaydreams
      @weldeddaydreams  Před 19 dny

      Interesting ideas there. The electric rollerskate shoes are already a thing, but the powered walking cane is an intriguing idea to explore. There's a lot of electric ideas on my list but the price of batteries is still a bit out of reach for a small channel like mine. Maybe one day I'll have enough Patreon subscribers to do some of the more wild experiments ;)

    Just found your channel, very nice, project but have one question. You are pretty well tooled out so why don't you have a Plasma cutter? Cut your fab time by better than half.
    I'd build one if I had your metal supply... Keep up the good work

    • @weldeddaydreams
      @weldeddaydreams  Před 9 dny

      I have a baby plasma, you can kind of see it on the welding cart on the right hand side in a few of the shots. I'm not real good with it though, so will set up an Arcdroid at some point in the future when space and resources permit.
