- Ahoy fisho's! This week I set out on a solo adventure not really sure what I was going to find... So, I had to be ready to chase anything that swims! It's always hard to predict what to chase when you're fishing between seasons. Luckily a bit of persistence pays off and I manage to hook into some lovely snapper and kingfish on a variety of techniques before having to leave because of storms.

Would love to see a vid showing a split screen of you fishing and what the sounder is showing. I usually fish shallows with plastics but just set myself up for some slow pitching this summer. Need guidance on the terrain I need to look for and the best way to locate fish. Another good video to sink a beer and watch cheers 🍺

Cheers mate! I fish them different hands because it’s quite hard to track down left handed overheads. I prefer to fish my dominant hand on the rod (right hand) but can do both 👌

what were you basing your drag setting off? I'm just curious as you set it was a touch too agressive, but i thought tight drags were the aim of the game when getting those big kingies and snapper up with the potential to reef you?
Hey mate, I base it solely off feel to be honest. I run a slightly lighter drag just incase I need to let them run a bit then just use my thumb to add extra pressure where needed 👌

Hey mate, it’s pretty simple to be honest, I just stick the bum of the boat into the prevailing conditions and follow my line. Ideally you want your line straight up and down 👍👍

Hey Sammy, great video as usual. Just a question. I read that Yellow tail kings north of about Newcastle have a worm in there flesh. I actually caught several off Mooloolaba and froze a couple. Shen I thawed one out to eat, the flesh just fell apart into a mush. Didn’t fancy eating them after that and threw them away.
Any thoughts?
Hey mate, I’ve only ever had 2 kingfish from up here that have gone mushy. All the others have been totally fine. I think it’s just a luck of the draw thing 👍👍

@@Allan1356 it’s a parasite I believe. Best if you get more than one is to freeze them in different bags an mark them. I had one off of Tweed Heads do it to me but that was a long time ago. The further north you go the greater the chance and there’s no way to tell until you cook it. You could just eat it ceviche??? Or test cook before you eat any! Never encountered it off Ballina yet.
^as above, best off doing them sashimi, ceviche etc. where you don't cook them. That said, haven't had too many complaints from many of my customers over many years. I also wonder if the deep drop ones are better than the shallow water ones because of the cooler water or maybe they migrate a whole lot more than we give them credit for as some of the latest tag return ones have shown, even trans Tasman migration.
Hey Sammy been watching your content for a long time and always keen for the next video. I do have a question about jigging since I’ve never tried it before and I have gone and got myself a decent set up. The question I have is do you rub a scent on the jig itself or is it just plain Jane jig and rely on appearance ?
I’m not Sammy, but my experience is fish strike jigs because of their action, not their scent. Generally, jigs are designed to look like bait fish- bait fish that are either moving around “normally” like bait fish do (like a typical jig retrieve) or they flutter like injured or dying bait fish (like slow and fast pitch jigging). While I suppose you could rub scent on them, most are fished without. JMO

Got a question, why do you have a inflatable mattress in the boat? You stay out over night?
Haha It is an air mattress! It’s for a totally random purpose actually. So the seat behind the console is quite close to the steering wheel. When you stand there your legs are right up against the seat. Now half way up the seat is a big ridge that digs into your calf muscle while your driving, on a long trip it bloody hurts after a while and leaves some wicked bruises. So I use the air bed to put between my legs and the seat. Did it as a quick fix one trip then never really put too much more thought into it because it worked 🤣🤣
