45 years ago, the BBC made a Roman history series called “I, Claudius”, based on two books by Robert Graves. It had Patrick Steward ( with hair!!), John Hurt as a great Caligula, and Brian Blessed in one of his better roles. Derek Jacobi played Claudius. Of course, the set pieces were not as expansive as “Rome”, but the intrigue, backstabbing, cruelty make it a great series to watch again.
Wow, I never knew that these shows had huge budgets to produce these episodes, it was almost like the studios (who brought these TV shows to life) were about to be broke at the end of each episode or show, that's incredible
I remember reading about the Robocop Series from 1994 costing around 1 million dollars per episode, which for the mid-90's is pretty huge and considering the actors involved probably weren't a huge chunk of that seems all the more high.
Band of Brothers was excellent. Anyone who hasn't seen it, should. Also, I cannot leave out HBO's Rome. That show was fantastic. It was very expensive at the time which caused it's demise.

I know the 1990 Flash TV show on CBS was expensive. Most of the expense was on special effects (to create his super speed and other abilities), which is why it only lasted one season.
They already have to pay for the first season, plus rights, plus reshoots, plus new writers and show runners, it is already a massive cluster for that show and they already spent 300 millions and they just finally started shooting.
I believe that another thing which made TBBT so expensive, besides main cast salaries, could be the fact that there were too many celebrity cameos, many of whom might have requested for a decent payment in order to appear in the show.

I was expecting LOST. It was the beginning of big budget fantasy/sci-fi drama. The pilot was the most expensive at the time it came out and I assumed the rest of of show followed suit since the production value was incredible for the time. Also with such a large cast, even though most were fairly unknown, I would expect it to be pretty expensive.
Soooo, let's see . . . We got Khal Drago resurrected from the dead, but now he's blind, we also got Rachel Green now working as an Anchor for the morning News along side her sister Jill. Oh, and how could we forget the Red Viper returning as a bounty hunter.
Production values for TV shows are kind of coming in line with video games. Red Dead 2 cost something like 600 million to make, I think if they make GTA6 it will cost close to a billion, and make it all back in a day or so. With TV the more CGI they use the more expensive it gets, and then there is acting talent for TV too.
Maybe this video is sponsored by Netflix and HBO and they said they can only feature one Disney+ show... otherwise, there's no reason to leave them out
