    If I recall the background for this video, prior - the Lord Admiral was just discussing with Admiral Spire that they were planning an offensive, but due to a lack of ships, they had to decide which planets/sectors to leave defenseless (hence, abandoning them to the enemy). It was this thought why the Lord Admiral was brooding over astromap - he was trying to decide which planets and people to sacrifice. Then suddenly, he didn't need to worry about it anymore as the warp storm had subsided and reinforcements finally arrived.

    I want everyone to stop for a moment and think about the number of ships tearing through the warp. During these massed transits fleets are scattered and come in anywhere from a few seconds to years before or after the rest of the fleet. This either means The Warp Current at this time is especially calm and allowed them all to travel together. Or more likely. There are so many Emperor Damned ships en route that this is just the tip of those forces that were lucky enough to make transit.
    This goes back to a favorite thought process of mine which is that, in its entirety. The Imperium is impossible to defeat. We always believe humanity to be on the verge of destruction even after the great rift formed. This is not true. Humanities output and number of forces and worlds under it's control makes it so that anyone but the Tyranids are unlikely to successfully destroy them.

    • @admiralspire8867
      @admiralspire8867 Před 6 lety +72

      Wolf King Theorically the Imperium could defeat the Tyrannids on its own but it would require an immense war effort, the like of which has not been seen since the Horus Heresy or the War of the Beast. At least a quarter of the entire Imperial populatiok would have to be armed and trained to fight the tyrannic menace, which, considering the sheer size of the Imperium and its massive population, is not an easy feat.

    • @Aurilion44
      @Aurilion44 Před 6 lety +105

      So, yeah basically the only reason Imperium is losing is because the universe throws so much shit at them. Chaos, Orks, Eldars both normal and dark, Necrons sulking somewhere around the corner, Tyranids, Tau nipping at their back when they finally arrive, etc. Basically, if they could face only one enemy at a time they would OBLITERATE them.

      Aurilion44 I think one of the main reason the Imperium is getting slowly shredded apart is chaos causing massive internal fightings.
      Think about it, everydays civil wars are triggered within the imperial even between the mist hardcore emperor worshippers because of chaotic machinations, billions of imperial guards regiments turn rogue whenever they fight chaos (even if they win they'd still get corrupted).
      The Imperium could be so much more efficient if it could get rid of chaos corruption and if technological progress wasn't as restricted as it is right now.

      The Imperium is a beast that can be easily underestimated when you look at it from too close of an angle.
      You really have to zoom out, to see the realms as a whole to see how gargantuan and truly gigantic it really is.
      For all the threats it has to fight against, the Imperium is still the largest unified galactic empire in the milly way since the horus heresy.
      It is like a colossus, a beast that has suffered a thousand cuts but can suffer a million more. Its armour is dented but still strong, its shield used as a crude bludgeon and its massive mace so overused that you can see parts of it deformed, yet its still serviceable to crack skulls as it always has been.
      It is dying but its death may as well never come because of how slow he bleeds out. The enemies of the colossus are both numerous and formidable, but not a single one of them could bring down the giant and most of them would be crushed if it were not for the giant being distracted by half a dozen monstruous foes at once.

      @NATIK001 Před 2 lety

      To be fair, humanity attained the massive spread and advancement they have during a time of relative peace in the WH40K galaxy.
      Remember the birth of Slaanesh and thus the Eye of Terror and the current turmoil of the Warp, the rise of the Dark Eldar, the arrival of the Tyranid, the acceleration of Necron awakening and more happened AFTER humanity spread everywhere and became ubiquitous. The story of the Imperium and humanity since then have kinda been going from bad to worse and the Imperium and Humanity are kept alive mainly by the inertia of those early years being so absolutely massive that almost nothing can cause them to come to a complete stop.

    • @gustavoritter7321
      @gustavoritter7321 Před rokem +1

      Honestly I think the Federation not only would endure but would probably have destroyed Chaos and the Aeldari by now. It is just a question of technological development: The Imperium is strong but technologically backwards, its communication methods are ridiculously inneficient and its weapons aren't that powerfull. The Federation meanwhile is at least once mentioned to have technology to provoke supernovas (star explosions) and other mindblowing stuff. Besides, standards of living in the federation are so good that Chaos cults would probably be unthinkable.

    • @Korraganitar
      @Korraganitar Před rokem +6

      @@gustavoritter7321 you say that, but consider that the Imperium manages to fight and win against such races as the Necron and the Aeldari, both elder races with tech far beyond the Federation.
      Also consider that Chaos cults don't just appear among the downtrodden. The Federation may ne a Utopia compared to the Imperium, but there are still dissenters in it, and at least two of the Ruinous Powers thrive on corrupting the "Great and Good" of civilizations.
      Finally, consider scale. The Federation had at its peak, 350 worlds under its aegis. Even with Warp travel, getting from one end of the galaxy to the other was the work of years, as seen in Voyager. By contrast, the M41 Imperium, which is the Imperium 10k years after its peak, has over 1 million worlds, spanning the length and breadth of the galaxy. While the Immaterium's nature makes travel time hard to figure, it is reliably fast enough that forces based in the galactic east are able to make it to the galactic west in time to answer muster calls against anticipated threats.
      The Federation is by far the nicer place to live, but they exist in a galaxy that isn't determined to kill everything in it, beset by horrors like the Ruinous Powers or the threat of stuff like the Tyranids.
      Maybe, just maybe, the Federation could endure... but only if they were willing to throw away many of their principles pretty quick.

      @gustavoritter7321 Před rokem +2

      @@Korraganitar "but consider that the Imperium manages to fight and win against such races as the Necron and the Aeldari, both elder races with tech far beyond the Federation". In the lore, the Imperium NEVER wins against the Necrons, the Orpheus war was a defeat of massive proportions to the Imperium. The Aeldari are a dwindling race with very few resources, the Imperium usually just overwhelms them with their numbers.
      "Also consider that Chaos cults don't just appear among the downtrodden." No but mostly and even when it doesnt, it is partly because the Imperium at large is such a miserable, opressive place, even for those high above.
      "The Federation may ne a Utopia compared to the Imperium, but there are still dissenters in it, and at least two of the Ruinous Powers thrive on corrupting the "Great and Good" of civilizations." For sure, humans gonna Human, but a terrorist cell here and there would be easy prey to the Federation.
      Your point about warp travel is, dubious tho. Warp travel is very dangerous and there is actually little trade between the Imperium's planets because its so costly and dangerous to do so. The federation wouldn't rely on the Immaterium for anything and federal ships could probably decimate, surprise and trap Chaos' fleets with such an easy that wouldnt even be a contest. The eye of terror itself would probably be overloaded and devasted by exploding supernovas and other over the top technological weapons as the Federation could strike anywhere, anytime and then just leave. With that kind of control over space, the Chaos marines would be useless.
      "but they exist in a galaxy that isn't determined to kill everything in it, beset by horrors like the Ruinous Powers or the threat of stuff like the Tyranids." The whole point of warhammer is that The Imperium's opression, superstition and ignorance just make it all worse. Chaos is a reflection of Mankind's ethos, and it is dark indeed.
      "but only if they were willing to throw away many of their principles pretty quick." No, then they would lose. Their principles of rational leadership, economic and technological innovation is exactly what would be their strangth in Warhammer
