I grew up in Washington State, went to school in Seattle, and currently am retired living in the Bay Area. In the middle, I lived 10 years in Bakersfield. And....I..LOVED it. The nice parts, the rough parts, the oilfields, the old diners, the pistachio and almond fields, the summer heat, the winter fog, the basque food, the dry river bed, the crazy people, I loved Bakersfield. I frequently consider moving back.

The problem in Bakersfield is that during the Real Estate Boom and eve before developers walked away from it's downtown to build in the south west, sort of like suburb style in a city that didn't need suburbs. Then LA and Fresno find it easier to dump the homeless in Bakersfield than to deal with their issues. Farm, cattle (can you believe there are actual and real cowboys working the cattle on horseback) then there's one of the largest oil reserves that as you drive through it you no longer feel in the US. but the middle east, Arnold Schheszdgtee whatever, made reference to that and no one was happy lol. A couple miles north of Bako, is where 80 percent of all the roses that sell nationwide are harvested and 100 percent of the ones you see the Tournament of Roses Parade.... If farmers decided shut down for half a year, the country would be in real trouble, up to 80 percent of what the country consumes in fruits and vegetables, yep, Bakersfield and surrounding sisters Arvin, Delano, Lamont, Shafter. I'll stop here, Bakersfield is not beautiful like San Luis Obispo, Bakersfield is just important, essential, and a political power house, but it's biggest asset is the people who live here, generationally and new comers, still believe it's important to remember your name when they greet you. I've been here less than 15 years and I can honestly say that it didn't take long before I saw myself driving back down the Grapevine and thinking "I'm home" when I saw the vast landscape of wealth and new opportunities in what is now known as Bakersfield, the Last Frontier, if you're a visionary and willing to put in some hard work. I’m sitting hear listening to u two say u don’t wanna see down town but let me advise u (a bit too late now lol) u are about to enter THE HOOD after u pass chester Ave. down town is way nicer than the crack head murderous park u are coming to soon. Probably would have had better luck finding a nice part of town by following that horse trailer. That was a nice get up the horse had. Ok going back to video….

I apologize if I offered anyone I said that to say theirs more hispanics here in Bakersfield than any other race then it use to be before I left Bakersfield and moved back 6 yrs ago. I mean we're the only black family on our block and I'm ok with that.

Talk about making the wrong turn!!! That would be like saying Los Angeles is Soto and 7th Street. The problem in Bakersfield is that during the Real Estate Boom and eve before developers walked away from it's downtown to build in the south west, sort of like suburb style in a city that didn't need suburbs. Then LA and Fresno find it easier to dump the homeless in Bakersfield than to deal with their issues. Farm, cattle (can you believe there are actual and real cowboys working the cattle on horseback) then there's one of the largest oil reserves that as you drive through it you no longer feel in the US. but the middle east, Arnold Schheszdgtee whatever, made reference to that and no one was happy lol. A couple miles north of Bako, is where 80 percent of all the roses that sell nationwide are harvested and 100 percent of the ones you see the Tournament of Roses Parade.... If farmers decided shut down for half a year, the country would be in real trouble, up to 80 percent of what the country consumes in fruits and vegetables, yep, Bakersfield and surrounding sisters Arvin, Delano, Lamont, Shafter. I'll stop here, Bakersfield is not beautiful like San Luis Obispo, Bakersfield is just important, essential, and a political power house, but it's biggest asset is the people who live here, generationally and new comers, still believe it's important to remember your name when they greet you. I've been here less than 15 years and I can honestly say that it didn't take long before I saw myself driving back down the Grapevine and thinking "I'm home" when I saw the vast landscape of wealth and new opportunities in what is now known as Bakersfield, the Last Frontier, if you're a visionary and willing to put in some hard work.
