  • In this video I answer the "age old" question: do you wearing cycling tights over or under bib tights? (The answer is that you ONLY wearing tights OVER THE TOP of your bib shorts, never underneath).

Interesting and certainly makes sense, though I've been wearing tights under without any problems

I'm a messenger and I wear passed tights with denim shorts over, as do most messengers.. The denim is tough, not padded, and allows you to look less ridiculous when off the bike. They also offer pockets and protection.

Hi, I am using Gore C3 Thermo Bibs (with pad) in Winter (great on windy/wet days, i love the cup to protect my sensitve region), but on really chilly days I feel like I want to combine them with somthing. Should I go for a completly different setup, or is there something I could combine with a Thermo Bib?

Haha very good! Have you thought about wearing a helmet with MIPS? Much higher safety rating! I’ve just acquired a Scott Cadence Plus - very well made. Other brands are available

I’ve been struggling to find non thermal (non Roubaix) tights, as I find them too thick.

Some time ago I bought some DHB tights that are padded. They are not that great on their own - too warm in summer and not enough by themselves in winter. You're not a fan of double padded I hear? Given my bib longs have better padding I think the DHB tights sound a bit redundant.

Yeah I'll be honest Norman, I don't wear the padded bib tights very often. I do find them more than enough in winter (they are thick furry lycra) but I just prefer leg warmers. If my legs are wet and covered in muck, I can remove the leg warmers in our utility room and dry off a bit. To do the same with bib tights would lead to more than just a flash of thigh as I make my way up for a shower...

Conversely I also bought a pair of DHB bib tights some time ago and find them to be excellent, comfortable pad and very cosy in winter (why would you wear tights in summer?). More to the point I bought these after trying (and returning) quite a few more expensive (very!) brands that I found really uncomfortable, so my standard winter gear is now as Monty suggests, DHB bib tights and nothing underneath.

I enjoyed your video as always. A question regarding legwarmers. My experience with Gore bike wear leg warmers is after riding for one or two minutes they start to creep down my legs. After four or five minutes they look like long baggy socks around my ankles! I have tried safety pins - not very successful. Not sure if suspenders or braces would work. Second thoughts I don't think I would be seen wearing them with lycra

Thanks David. I haven't had this much with the grip grabs, but when it happens and I'm flashing a tranche of pale English thigh, I do wonder what the other road users think....
Dunno what to suggest about the Gore ones. I've found the combo of the grippy bit inside the leg warmers added to the grippy strip inside the bottom of my shorts is sufficient to hold them. What about that tape that actresses use to secure strapless dresses to avoid flashing their décolletage on the red carpet ... ;-)

@@Sportivecyclist Yes touchy issues here. If I go to the ladies shops to buy some holder uppers or the tape it could be very embarrassing. Probably more so if bike riding and the accessories started to show. I would look to see if anyone was behind me if so would have to ride much faster. Suppose it would improve my fitness.

Please note do not wear dark clothing such as black tights on your
bike.Biologically drivers cant see you as a cyclist passess through the
fovia of the eye.A spate of cyclist accidents has prompted propsals to
ban the wearing of dark clours on bikes in favour of those brighter
colours on the contient. It makes real sense, be seen, dont blame the
motorists they really did not see you ...be safe.

The mistake you are making is to forget why you are buying cycling shorts: because you have negative pressure points that are hurting you. Not just discomfort but real urological and neurological damage. Why not just take away the cause rather than treat the symptoms?
