      I have seen him love twice. First time in 76. Got front row seats in the orchestra pit. My dad took me as I was only 13. George was larger than life standing 10 feet from me. It was a fantastic show. Incredible player. Played octane, gone, take5, breezin. On Broadway , 6 to 4 ect. Opening act was Tom Scott and it was every bit as good. As soon as the lights went down everyone sparked up the wacky tobaco. Was high as a kite from all the second hand smoke.

    Surprised the 100 sound effects disc didn't use subtracks, 99 Tracks+99 Subtracks are supported by red book audio CDs. My old Sanyo player CP-08 can display subtracks, though the only audio CD I ever came across that used them was "Full Moon Fever" by Tom Petty between Track 5 and 6 is Track 5.1 that plays a message about pausing in fairness to people who have to turn over the LP or cassette.

    My local Wal-Mart is trying to kill off the CD. They are literally stocking overpriced vinyl. However, the Wal-Mart 20 miles south in Fresno still stocks a few. Did a price compare with a Fleetwood Mac Rumors CD. The CD was $7.00, and the vinyl was $29.96. Know someone who purchased the vinyl and side 2 was not even centered properly. The tone arm swayed in and out during playback causing a slight wow and flutter. Why people prefer vinyl over CD is a mystery to me.

    I just recently got a Panasonic 5 disk charger from 1993 and I got It for $9. the player read a disk and seemed to be playing the CD just fine. I will hook it up to my main stereo system that currently has a Scott CD player from 1988. The Scott is a very good player as it will read CD-R and if it skips on a stamped disc you now your disk is hosed. I got the Scott $4 with sticker saying as is. That made me assume it had a problem but for that price I thought I'll take a chance. After I got it home I put a CD in the Scott and it worked fine. I did grease the rails and do some maintenance to it but I didn't change the disc tray belt which is pretty stretched.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  Před 6 měsíci

      I try. Not every camcorder can be economically repaired and there are no easy parts solutions as they haven't made any for close to 20 years now. When the last camcorder rolled off the line so did the last part. Contrary to what a lot of people think manufacturers did not have to continue to make parts available for service after the model production ended. They used to have to back in the '80s manufacturers had to maintain a sufficient inventory to service products for 7 years then it dropped to six then five and then just the warranty period. Around 1998 all parts manufacture stopped the day the when the model ended production and once the inventory of the parts in the chain which was closely controlled was used the production stopped. Just both cameras use the same parts head drums kiss at houses etc production of those parts continued until all camp quarter manufacturing stopped but the same thing they stopped production of the parts and once the parts of the chain were used up that spelled the end of those models. What the manufacturer did starting at around 1997 or 98 was giving a replacement equivalent replacement if something broke so for example if you had an 8 mm camera that you bought the last year that they made them and your camera broke under warranty they wouldn't give you another 8mm camera they would give you an SD based camera as a replacement. I actually know someone who fell into that situation bought a camcorder it was a mini DV right at the end of production and his camera broke and Sony gave him the replacement for it which was a DVD camcorder. I know this because he brought me all of his tapes to transfer to DVD this is going back to about 2009 somewhere in there where they stopped production of the mini DV cameras.

    I have a question... I have a GoldStar CD Player FH-532 from a full GoldStar F-532 series component set, that was still working and then one day it suddenly would play and for a few second, then skip across about 60 seconds of the track being played back. This bothered me a lot and I performed extensive cleaning inside with no results. I had it in for repair a few years after and these technicians damaged it further. I got the unit back six months later with loads of stories. First they said the gears are worn, which wasn't the case and secondly they then said that the control circuit has blown and whatnot The unit display didn't come on, so naturally I opened the unit again, only to find that they damaged the ribbon cable connecting the display to the board. I fixed this, however the player reads the discs and when I push play it just spins and spins and sometimes shows the no disc error. Maybe there is a solution to my problem and any advise will be greatly appreciated.

    Which dac does it have? I know a lot of people seek the old phillips ones as they have a better/different sound to even some of the more modern higher bit dacs.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  Před 5 měsíci +2

      The tda1541 Philips is sought after by audiophools that perceive it as having better sound. I have one and it does sound different. Better? I don't think I can say it's better but different. It's not an over sample dac and it switches rapidly between the left and right channel as it's a single dac doing 2 channel deciding. What makes it sound different isn't so much the dac but the analog filter that follows it to remove the harshness of it. This one if i remember has a burr brown. Many of the newer dac were 2 - 8x oversample. These moved the quantazing noise 4 or 8x higher then the 44.1 sample frequency and thus so far away that filtering was not needed so they actually provided a truer representation. The old Philips operating at 44.1 needed the filtering which by the nature of how capacitors work caused a roll off of the sound and made it more analog tape or vinyl sounding as analog circuits all have this sound. Some high end CD players stuck a 12ax7 or 12au7 tube into the audio output to achieve the warmer analog sound as digital recording is pretty stirile. You get back what you put in and it isn't as pleasing to those used to the warm fuzzy sound of vinyl and tape.
      The majority that i deal with that think vinyl sounds better are the 65+ crowd that can't hear those highs anyway. I am falling into that catagory myself. I can't hear much above 15khz these days and it isn't coming back. If I want to drive my son nuts i just fire up the induction cook top. That drives him absolutely crazy, i don't hear a thing 😅

      @12voltvids is the filtering you speak of similar to the class d output filters. Low pass filters. And the new dacs like the some of the later class ds that dont need filtering as they oscillate at much higher frequancy?

      @@12voltvids Parts... Whole VCRs made by Hitachi and Samsung, marketed as Sony. Have you ever seen a color Sony TV with in-line tube instead of Trinitron? I did! It was on the street smashed to pieces, and it had a 21" Toshiba in-line tube in it and Toshiba chassis. It looked to be a mid '80s set, as the tube had the old Toshiba logo on it. Maybe Sony wanted a budget model that they couldn't do with their Trinitron tube. I made photos of it, but it was in ~2008, so it is unlikely to find those blurry 640x480 photos that I made with my Nokia 6070...
      Also when they gave up Betamax, their first VHS VCRs were rebadged Hitachis I think. And when they did not want to invest anything into VHS VCR development anymore, since around 1999-2000, they started to rebadge Samsung VCRs. Even their time-lapse VCRs were rebadged, but those were already rebadged even in the mid '90s. I have Sony time lapse VCRs with Sanyo internals, and IIRC with JVC internals, too. The Sanyo-made one is a real work horse, with ball bearings for the capstan, something I have never seen before in a VHS transport.
