      China has a big bench of substitute players. They have to promote young and send old players to retire. In small Belarus (and even in all former republics of the USSR) there are no such players as Samsonov and may not appear in the future.

    It's amazing to see that despite Samsonov's superb tactics and insight due to his enormous amount of experience with competetive table tennis, he's still struggling so much with receiving Ma Long's services. It really goes to show how important the service is in the game and how great ML's serves are.

      Well Waldner isn't as good as Ma Long

    • @marsa74
      @marsa74 Před 3 lety +8

      That's your opinion. Mine is different. In Waldners prime TT was much more about spin and ball control. Today and thanks to the larger ball, it's more like ping pong with ball placement and athletics.

    • @pingcredible3477
      @pingcredible3477 Před 3 lety +4

      @@marsa74 Its a fact. We are talking about China here. The greatest player from China will always be better than the greatest player from Sweden theoretically. If your highest ranking was 5, you can't call yourself the best player of all time, but instead ONE of the best players of all time. Table tennis players only get better with time. You ever saw prodigies like Harimoto or Sora Matsushima during Waldners time? Not at all. Waldner is good but his strategy will never simply be good enough to consistently take down any top chinese player. Ma Long is too fast and too strong.

    • @marsa74
      @marsa74 Před 3 lety +6

      @@pingcredible3477 Don't know what you are talking about???
      In the era of Waldner, Persson et. al. Sweden was much better than China and Waldner was beyond them all. And yes, he brought down every top chinese player including Ma Lin by the age of 39 in 2004. And yes, there were prodigies in the era of Waldner and Appelgren. For instance, Waldner and Appelgren at the age of 14.
      "Table tennis players only get better with time" is also not correct. The game itself changes over the time. Mostly caused by material and regulations.
      Nowadays athletic style will be rather harmful when practiced on a slippery wood parquet of he 80s. The large ball of today is much easier to control, tricky spin/effet is almost impossible and, for services, even prohibited, the set of required skills has been reduced to being fast.
      Everything has been done done to attract spectators that don't understand the complexity of old fashioned TT. Was it worth it? Difficult to say. TT is still a rather irrelevant sport outside China. And yes, for the next 500 years I expect China to be the dominant nation because in Europe, virtually no one is practicing TT on the club level anymore.

      @@marsa74 Waldner beat Ma Lin once, impressive but it means nothing if he is better than him or not. Karakesivic beat Guoliang once, but he is not better. Ma Long has been number 1 for a long time, Waldner has never been number 1. Ma Long is better. Some players have had trouble with the new ball too.

      @@user-hj4fl7su1k никто не говорит, что Самсонов плохой игрок, но он и в лучшие годы не играл на равных с китайцами. Первая строчка в рейтинге так себе показатель, кто то меньше турниров играет, кто то больше. Сейчас Ма Лун 11-й в рейтинге. На больших турнирах, куда китайцы едут только за победой(ЧМ, ОИ), европейцы уже давно ничего не могут им противопоставить.

    Самсонову нужно было сильней ударять по мячу. Ма Лонг именно так и делает. Его удары очень размашисты. Самсонов очень много брака допускал на приёме подачи. Скорее всего эти ошибки связаны с его возрастом.

    The problem playing agains Ma Long is that he is ready to counter-topspin almost any ball by his forehand. At least against slower "European-style" players, like Vladimir.
    Really hope that Timo will be able to do magic and beat him. Not that I don't like Ma Long, but it is more interesting with Timo progressing.

      @WARRIOR FIGHTER PAHLAWAN I see you are shitposting on every comment. Now take this: when Kanak Jha asked Liu Guoliang who would win Ma Long or Jan Ov Waldner, the coach himself said that Waldner would win with a 38mm ball, but Ma Long would win with a 40mm ball. So Waldner at his prime with his equipment was supreme.

      @WARRIOR FIGHTER PAHLAWAN Calm down. Ma Long was age 20 when he was World No. 2 beat Waldner in his 40s, so it was not so much a fair match-up. Anyway, I do believe that later generation players like Ma Long and probably Ma Lin were stronger than Waldner. I am Asian myself, but that doesn't mean I think Waldner is bad just because he is white. I just wanted to see the reaction of a troll like you to Liu Guoliang's own comment and I got it.
