My whirlpool cabrio is making a clicking sound when starting...it has 2 fault/error codes. F7/E5 (Shifter fault) F7/E6 (Motor fault)...

How do you test this part? Should there be resistance across the wires?

Mine is rated for 120V 60hz 0.22A and reads open even in the meg-ohms. However I can hear it working in the washer and when testing it out of the unit with those ratings it seems to work fine so I think there is a capacitor in series with the magnet.
What I ended up finding wrong with mine was mechanical. The plastic clutch that rides on the outer spline has a metal ring around it so that it will interact with the clutch magnet that's also called the 'shifter' in the little manual that rides inside the top panel housing. Well, this metal ring has separated from the plastic and moved down preventing the dogs on the clutch piece and the motor's rotor from engaging. My solution so far is to just glue it back so at least that will buy time to get a new part.

@@RingingResonance that was bad on my customers as well. I've replaced a few more since then.

It would be nice if you showed people how to test and confirm the part was bad before ever replacing the part. That's a real big part left out.

Thanks for the suggestion. We will look into making a video for that. This part is usually replaced when the washer will not spin or agitate.

@@repairclinic I found that a digital multimeter will not give you a reading. You have to use an analog multimeter.
