  • I have been using the Sony 16-35 f/2.8 GM II 6 weeks before it was announced and have used it in The Netherlands, Iceland and Greenland. In this video I'm talking about its capabilities in the field. This lens is not just a simple upgrade from the Mark I version. Amazing functions for landscape photography include no focus breathing and very close focus distance, and more.

    Wow! Your cityscape & landscape photos are AMAZING. In photography perspective, I'm convinced this lens is one of the best. However in videography perspective, I don't know because you did not review its video capability. Thank you.

      thank you so much! I am sure there are some good video reviews of this lens on CZcams. I would think it's a great lens for video as well (many of my videographer friends use it) mainly because its quite light, and especially because of the focus breathing.

    Hi Albert, another very nice review in which I picked up useful insights while enjoying your photos. Wish our August 2020 Greenland trip had not been canceled.
    I use the 4/16-35 PZ G. Much of what you describe with the GM II also applies to the 353g f4 sibling. Thanks to your July review I pair this with the 4/70-200 Macro G (sharing 72mm filters). Weight is of paramount importance to me. If the price of the f2.8 GM and of the f4 G were the same, I'd probably still choose the f4 PZ G. I'll pay to save weight, and forgo f/2.8 and a tad of close focus. When shooting in daylight I don't need to carry f2.8 glass. When I'm after astro, I'll just take my Laowa 15mm Zero-D, f2.0, with the focus ring taped on infinity (or my Zeiss f2.8 Loxia 21, only 350g) leaving zooms behind.

    Thanks for your great review with awesome pictures, Albert!
    I have a question about the filter setup (around 23min) - do you mean ND8 (3 Stops) probably?
    NiSi doesn’t have an 8 Stop in their portfolio and then the time would be longer, then 2 sec by f8 ISO 200 with 8 Stop, wouldn’t be?

    • @AlbertDrosPhotography
      @AlbertDrosPhotography  Před 10 měsíci +1

      no it's 8 stop filter. with a lot of light that's 2 seconds yes. And what do you mean they don't have 8 stops? They have for sure :)

    • @williweden9317
      @williweden9317 Před 10 měsíci

      @@AlbertDrosPhotography I tried to reply twice and copied the link to the NiSi home page, but my comments were not shown (I assume due to the link). In Germany NiSi offers ND8(3 stops), ND64 (6 stops) ND1000 (10 stops) and ND 32000 (15 stops)...

    With the mk1 for landscape shots with foreground area areas like grass or foliage in shot when tripod mounted at 16mm f8 everything would be sharply in focus across the whole frame if I placed the focus point a 2-3 metres away. This was impossible with the mk2 unless I focus stacked. I don't know if the was just another defective lens or because of a change in lens design but after trying 2 copies (first was soft in lower left at 35mm) I went back to the mk1

  • @jeipi22
    @jeipi22 Před 10 měsíci

    Thanks Albert for the video. One question, I have the Sony lenses 35 1.4 GM and 14 1.8 GM,I was planning to change it for this lens in the video to save on weight and the number of lenses to carry in the backpack. Do you recommend this change of lenses or am I left with these doubts about the lenses I have?

    • @AlbertDrosPhotography
      @AlbertDrosPhotography  Před 10 měsíci

      I think it depends on your shooting style. Do you shoot a lot of astro? Then the 14 1.8 is of course amazing. If not, then for landscapes you can definitely do that switch. However, the 35 1.4 for example is amazing for street shooting as well. So again, depends on what you shoot :D

    I also love my 12-24mm GM but now I'm a little tentead to purchase this one and sell the 12-24mm. Thanks for this great review, but just have one last question. If you could only have just one wide ange lens, which one will you chose between those two?

    • @AlbertDrosPhotography
      @AlbertDrosPhotography  Před 10 měsíci +2

      difficult question. I'd probably still go for the 12-24 then :). I just love shooting wider than 16mm

      @@williweden9317 Obviously that would be an awesome kit but sadly it'll cost more than a thousand more than my already crazy expensive $3K 12-24mm

    • @Xetenor
      @Xetenor Před 8 měsíci +2

      Noway in hell would I get rid of the incredible 12-24 GM which I own as well. Just get a 14mm prime if you want to go wider than 16 and have a faster aperture giving you more variety in shooting abilities. Also don't forget the one weak point of this lens is the flare resistance which the 12-24 GM is MUCH better at. That is REALLY understated in many reviews. I would say it's one of the most important aspects of a lens for landscapes.

  • @marnienorris

    Can you go over manual focus. I’m having a hard time getting focus to infinity nailed on this lens. It’s a great lens. I do architectural photography and real estate photography and infinity is not working like it did on my canon

    • @AlbertDrosPhotography

    • @AlbertDrosPhotography
      @AlbertDrosPhotography  Před 7 měsíci

      I would prefer prime lenses for street Photography, otherwise slightly longer is better like a 24-70. However it totally depends on your shooting style
