FF9 had the best battle music, IMHO. It made me yearn for the encounters, and I love the way it starts. I could be wrong, but it seems like FF9 was the last to use that opening tune that plays right before the battle music starts like it was for the first 6 Final Fantasies. I was a little disappointed when it was absent in FF7 & FF8. It was just transition screen then start battle music. I was so happy it was brought back in FF9. To me, that opening tune before the battle music starts is what makes it Final Fantasy...again, just my opinion.
i dont agree with this..but in psx maybe. If we compare the battle theme across jrpg that time...i will pick Grandia II against any game of the same time as the best battle music
@harombee yeah the great thing about ff9 is that ALL bosses have good items. things like pieces of armor or equiptment or even weapons that you are unable to obtain until later on in the game. the advantages of stealing means you gain equipment you cant buy yet, you get to learn abilities from these new items, and they can boost your stats. also its good to make zidane steal as much as poss as it will make his "thievery" skill do more damage over time. (thefts X zidanes level = damage done) :)
Man, I was hooked on this game during last summer. (wow, it's going to be summer already!) I never got that far, I only got to the fourth disc, but I kinda stopped playing it. Hopefully this summer I'll go back to it and start it over and beat it ^^
FF9 is just awesome, easily my favorite in the series. It has such an amazing atmosphere and world - only thing "cartoony" in it are the visuals, which actually help the game age better. I'd also recommend trying 13-2. It addresses pretty much all the common complains of FF13, and is easily one of the most fun JRPGs in recent years.
@harombee i know this was 4 months ago (your problem) but lani can be beaten with man eater and mp attack. she primarily attacks garnet, as shes a bounty hunter. so keep her alive and make sure if you have the time steal the cool items she has. you should also put your party members in the back row if you feel she is dealing too much damage to you, however you will now deal half damage in return. hope this helps anyone else out.
The music here is so much punchier! Also, I notice the swirl effect here is perfect as on original hardware, not sure if its the same on ePSXe but on 1.5.2 I could never get it right.

@harombee i beat just about everything in this game, the chocobo quests, mognet, ozma, hades, even the weird message you get for visiting all the beaches on your chocobo. the only thing i left out was getting steiners excalbur 1 and 2. i might do that sometime soon you have to beat the game in under 12 hours. if i do decide to do that sidequest ill deffintley make a video of it all on fraps i still have ff9 on emulator
@imarcacci Try psxfin. That emulator is easy to configure. You just need the bios files. Then configure the controls and then you can start playing the game. :)

quick question tho....i'm on disc 2 and im having trouble fighting the boss in cave of qu's marsh, after you run away from the big vehicle, i can't seem to beat the women with the axe, what level should i be? I've only gotten to about level 16 with most characters, realized ive commented twice already but if you could tell me i would appreciate it
FYI, the remastered for mobile battle screens are not as smooth. Once you choose an action, the character choice screen gets larger. Also easier to miss click because of that fact.
I never understood how Zidane slashes the enemies. It looks like he's slashing them with the knife in his left hand even though the knife you select is in his right hand which makes no sense as he should be using that one?
Theres one glitch in the game that affects you through out the game. i dont know exactly how it happens but for some reason it makes stealing items incredibly hard, and its harder friendly monsters to come out, but on other play throughs everything becomes easy. If anyone has experienced this lemme know. Ive beaten this game 6 times and started noticing it.
I played Chrono Trigger and Its ATB system ridiculously hard to cope with. Is the ATB here similar to in that game? ie you're punished for not running through the commands as quickly as possible with multiple enemy attacks?
It should be possible to switch between real-time ATB battle and an option to stop time when you're choosing the attacks. I know it's possible in some FF but I'm sure for this one. Well, at least I don't remember being attacked while choosing my moves, so I would say it's the case.
@GBCiscool Yes definitely. XD Its a funny as well as annoying moment. I mean, think about it. You bring down a huge meteor to hit your enemy. And the meteor misses; but the meteor is bigger than the enemy...I mean that doesn't make any sense! XD

short answer is yes. I barely got any kills in the rounds i played and i got bored, it belongs to my brother on his ps3 he doesnt play it anymore either.
@kiamick amen to that..i wil say this tho. i did enjoy the voice acting a little because i enjoy hearing the voices of characters..like cloud.cloud got an all new depth when he a got voiced casted in advent children..and yeah FFXIII was a disgrace
This one battle takes 3 minutes because of the slow ass animations and atb gauge. For the love of god this game doesn’t deserve this slow of a battle system. Get the pc version and mod it with moguri mod. It adds he backgrounds and new songs that are better than the original. Along with that it also installs the memoria engine which allows the speeding up of battle FPS to 30 or 60, along with the addition of changing the battle style, from automatically filling up the atb gauges if no one else is attacking, or fully turn based FFX style
It’s not that bad. Beat the game for the first time recently in about 25 hours. The battle music and mesmerizing animations are more than enough to keep me occupied while waiting in any battle. Just be patient. The rereleases have speed options regardless.
i think if they remade FFVII with XIII graphics and battle system, it would be the BEST game ever, also should i download this for my pspGO, this is one of the only FF games i havent played, is it worth buying?
Help! please some one help me. I have psxfin on my computer, and I have the FFIX game on 4 CDs. I know that to go to the 2nd disc, u must have a save data from the first disc. Would that work with PSXFIN?

it has the same battle system called Active Time Battle system introduced in the 4th game. also PLAY THIS GAME NAO! this is THE best 3D FF game
okay so the battle system reminds me of final fantasy 8. because the bad guys can attack you whileyour staying still!

It takes forever for Battles to start.
Just eject and insert the discs at the change disc screen like you would on the PS.
