  • I was locked out of my car at the bar it literally took me longer to go buy the string and watch the video on how to do it than it did do actually do it. This technique is to be used for emergencies only. Not for unlawful use.

As a towing company, this is actually a proper way to unlock a car, except we have a tool that can do it a bit faster. This way is a great way to accomplish the same thing and your video is crystal clear! good job.

I’ve found that it’s much easier to just have my wife sit in the car and loop the slipknot around the lock. Great time saver.

For everyone else who doesn't have a car from the 90's, just use one of the metal inserts torn out of a hanging file folder. Any commercial place or home with a filing cabinet should have one. Slip it between the door and window and swipe until you feel the latch in the door. Pull up the latch with the convenient flat hook at the end of the metal insert , and the door will unlock. It's easy. You're welcome.

      @cherixbiggs5819 Před 8 měsíci

The odds of me being near a file folder - slim and none. I just wear my keys around my neck on a lanyard or in my purse.
The slip knot would stump me.
By the way, I have a car from 2018 …the door buttons have a head! And roll up windows! Surprise! Now I cant accidently decapitate any animals! thank God!
I WILL miss the ability to stop a grown 30 year man from punching my 77 yr husband in the mouth!
I am a female. I am helpless with
cars at 71. I am still learning how to use/find all the bells and whistles on this new to me old car.
Men have a head for cars. Bless you all! I am only good at iphones, etc, music, and dogs. 😊
      Cheers!😊

Just to let you know that your video is still helping people. I discovered that I had locked the keys inside my 79 TA. Using your trick, I had it open in about 10 minutes, and on the first try. I did have to look up tying a slip-knot to get a clearer idea of how it's done. But without you, I wouldn't have known to try. So, THANKS for a great tip...saved me a lot of trouble!

Bought my first car last year. This morning I locked the keys in the car after starting it.
Tried the tape trick... woupdnt stick. Tried prying the window down with a spatula no go.
Then I remembered this trick. Ran inside got some cord and got the door unlocked in about a minute.
I let out the biggest whoop you ever heard.
I was amazed how easily it worked.
Only needed a simple slipknot, none of that fancy stuff

Last night, I arrived home late after dropping off some people at the airport. I got out of my car to open the garage doors and when I returned to my car, discovered that all the doors had locked and the engine and lights were still running. I was at the point of breaking the window when I came across this post. Although I am not that proficient at slip knots, with some help from my angel, I managed it. I then spent about ten minutes trying to get the loop around the lock and eventually succeeded and voila, the door opened. Huge thanks for posting this. An absolute lifesaver.

I spent 25 years as an LEO and unlocked countless cars with manual or electric locks. Many didn't have the button on top of the window panel. The best method is a section of stiff bailing wire and a plastic wedge - like a door stop or those used in logging. You use the wedge to force the door open far enough to insert the wire. The wire can be used to push lock buttons or (after the end is formed into an 'L' shape) to pull door handles.

I can assure you most modern cars either do not have post locks. if they do they are smooth and recessed without a flare to the end. while I have not rented all makes and models I can tell you I've rented a model from every car manufacturer stocked in American rental company's $50,000 and under from 2012 to present. I cannot recall any that have raised or flared lock posts

You only see this type of lock on American cars these days. You won't find them on anything European or Asian that was made post 2001.
I once heard an old American mechanic theorise that in Europe, a thief will break into your car and steal your belongings - in the States, he'll shoot you and steal your car...

It works! I have an old 2008 Chevy HHR knock around car, put maybe 600 miles a year on it. The car is notorious for lock problems and it only has one exterior keyed lock. I usually don't even lock it but yesterday I hit the door locks, didn't pull the drivers door know up like usual and went out today unable to get into couldn't. Was about to call AAA when my sweetheart found this CZcams. We took a length of twine and following your instruction had the car unlocked in about 2 minutes. Simple. Thanks for the lesson. Now I think I'll carry my twine in my pocket when I drive this car. Took a photo but can't post it here.

I tied both of them together, made a wedge out of to go lids and I unlocked my car with my damn shoelaces. It took me about twenty mins...but I did it. Also, old cars locks have a "neck" to the pop-up knob, so the slip knot can tighten around that neck and you'll be able to pull up on it without it simply riding up and detaching from the knob. you need doors that'll work for this too.

If I wanted to steal a car I'd just use my tow truck. It's just easier,I dont even have to get out if I dont want too.If I lower the boom ahead of time I can be gone in 30-45 seconds, roll down the street, strap it down in a min or 2 before hitting the highway. If its local most dont even strap em down, especially if its hot LOL.Anyone boosting cars with a wrecker wont strap them because if the cops go to pull you over they'll drop the car as they're driving because legally the cops have to stop for the car in the road if there's no backup.Although I only hold them for ransom ;)

+SouthJerseySound Oh, you've really come up with a unique idea there. Nobody else has ever thought of it. Dude, thieves have been using tow trucks to steal cars for perhaps as long as tow trucks have existed. Your problem is that there aren't that many tow trucks. After a quick check for trucks matching yours, police will promptly track you down. Many drivers, thinking they were just as smart, have ended up in prison as a result.

Not all vehicles have the unlock knob in this position.
Many have the unlock button/lever at / on the side of the door where the method you describe will not work due to it being impossible to access.
Though there are alternative methods in such instances.
For those who have vehicles with the release knob in the same location as in your example, your method will work nicely.
An alternative is to have a spare key in a secure small container (plastic is fine) taped with vinyl tape to keep water out and to secure the lid. Inside the container also place a neodymium magnet.
Then hide it under the car in a secure position

these kind of lock switches are on older cars and only a few newer types. there are tons of locks this wont work in because either there is no switch up there at all or the switch is weird shaped, like a tapered rectangle or smooth in some other way, on those that has a switch up top but is smooth and the rope wont get on and stay to grip the thing. you can try some rubber cement on the string, rub it on good and dry it, it makes it tacky. on the ones that don't have a switch up top, this wont work at all. LOL
