    This, combined with vertical farming... Wow!! We might actually be able to let nature heal herself. Wouldn't that be lovely? Go soil-free agriculture! Yay!

    Permaculture principles are capable of repairing many of the soil conditions, food quality, and food quantity issues that this film claims to resolve. It can do so semi-permanently as well, but /only/ if done correctly and with patience.

    Is there any way to get some of this in México? I live in a desert kind of land, so it will be very helpful to have this tecnology implemented

    It's a technology to be used where you don't have good soil... Like some of the african countries where the soil is too sandy and drains water fast. For them, this is a miracle, they can grow food in that terrible environment. Food grown on plastic foil beats by far no food at all. :)

      Not so. With appropriate natural methods many desert areas have been restored to produce abundantly. Check your facts before you speak.

    here's the thing. they have radio active ground . it doesnt matter if it's cost effective or not when it comes down to it. that land cant be used for much for 100 years but if they use that. or some tec along with that. how much time can they cut down?

  • @vlietwerkz
    @vlietwerkz Před 11 lety +4

    So, the way I see it, this is a temporary solution to a very long term problem and will have to be financed by some very wealthy philanthropic backers or the people that really need the food will /not/ get it. Permaculture and proper, integrated, land management is the way of a sustainable future - this film is a very pretty, highly functional, technologically sexy, rich mans temporary solution to starvation and over-urbanization.

      +251omega the film is the same structure as the baby diaper, absorbed the water, won't leak out. sponge, PU tube (drill the hole by yourselves), and waterproof Sheet (HDPE film), easy things. See agriculture books.

    The point is the grow medium, he had stated that barrier film for contamination is just a stand in "...lets pretend...", so obviously it can be any radiation blocking material that any given situation had given.

  • @vlietwerkz
    @vlietwerkz Před 11 lety +2

    While I agree with the premise that this technology will be seen by those in desperate need as "OK", even a god-send, there are several issues that this does not address. Where is that film going to come from? How will it be made affordable to those that can not even afford standard ground-grown foods? How will the natural soil be re-mediated or will it simply be left polluted forever?

    It's pretty amazing technology but my guess is that the public will not really accept this kind of method of growing food. We all want the food to get nutrients from the ground, I guess it just sounds more natural than growing on some plastic.
