Whether you are trying to install lowering springs, or you are replacing struts this video should help you out. In order to compress the spring you will need a spring compressor tool. Removing and replacing spring is very dangerous job and we will not recommend it. The spring is under enormous amount of pressure and it can kill you if something goes wrong. Some springs are easier to remove than others. For instance this came out of a Ford Fiesta and it was very easy job. However, we did strut replacement on a 2014 Mercedes C250 and it was very hard to do.

Can you replace just the bushings on the strut?

If you're talking about the ones where you bolt up to the control arms. You can, just pop out the bushing with a press kit or burn it with a torch and clean the loop before you insert the new one. If you're talking about the ones next to the coil spring, some car/shock models don't have it, just do the same as this guy and replace it.

Same shit. Just make sure you do it safely. Off-road are going to be stiffer and have more tension!!
