  • This video is about how to replace, repair, fix, worn out or damaged outer ball joint on MEYLE control arm on BMW e46 1999-2003.
    I replaced ball joints on my car as I started to feel vibration while driving. One side had play in ball joint and I replaced them on both sides. The same time I replaced control arm bushing as they had cracks. Also this type of wear on ball joint can cause clanking noise, fast wear of tires and bad steering control.
    This video is only suitable for Meyle HD control arms! In the original control arms, the ball joints does not removable, the whole control arm must be replaced.

    This job is required some special tools as: Ball Joint Press and Ball Joint Separator.

    Hey! I know it's not a new video, but shouldn't the ball joints be under "pressure" while tightening the screws on them? I mean shouldn't we hold the control arm from below on the ball joint-side while screwing the screws?

    • @mikes.garage
      @mikes.garage  Před 2 lety

      No you don't have to do that. This procedure needed when control arms have bushings, to tight them in place. In this car bushings are different, you can't mess up with them, just make sure that they settled in place.

      The control arms that I have, were made in Turkey too. My lasted 50 000 km and can last more. I just hit log in a frozen lake, twice, and after that one side got loose. I replaced both sides and second ball joint was in great condition. I thinking they can last the same amount of time as original. This depends on your driving style and road conditions.
