Thank you for watching!
I just wanted to thank you for making this video, I followed your guide and was able to successfully replace both rear bearings, the drivers side being the most critical. I can now say I will change bearings all day long as long as I don’t have to deal with the way they mounted that stabilizer bar! Such a pain for sure.
Thank you! Yes, that stabilizer bar is a pain in the ass )
The best thing about the stabilizer bar is those stupid aluminium drop links break easily too, and the brackets all rust badly

I just replaced mine on my 328ci and the wheel hub just pulled off with no special tools 😬.
Great video by the way!
Thank you :) Wow, it must be on very bad shape.
That hasn't been in the uk climate. Mine was all corroded and was only 5 years old
Thank you.
FYI, my socket for the wheel nut was chamfered and kept slipping off the nut. I had to grind off the chamfered area to get it to stay on.
They all seem to be that way. If you have a helper, have them hold the socket on the nut. If not, I have wedged a cold chisel under the socket to keep it from dropping down.
Tip for some, make sure it's a 12point socket for the axel nut. And if your bearing is really bad. The inner bearing race may get stuck to your hub and you're better off just ordering a new hub, as it's damn near impossible to get the race off
Cut it open with an angle grinder, and it just slides off ;-)
Nice job, you make it looks easy ;)
Thank you! Everything is up to the point 😉
Молодец, очень красиво работаешь!

excellent video!
Thank you for watching! 😊
A good informative video , but I do have a couple of constructive criticisms,
1 please put the axle stands under your car properly , the way you had them , facing from back to front , if the jack gives way the car will drop onto the axle stands and they will slip sideways on the rear arms and the car will fall.safety first
2 please don't use a screwdriver as a chisel/punch its a good way to hurt yourself .chisels and punches are designed for a certain job 👍
Apart from that you did a good job , and I am very impressed with the bearing puller kit
Thank you for your review! I will keep it in mind for next time.
I strongly recommend replacing the backing plate any time you do the bearings - it is the only time you will have access!
Is it so necessary to replace them? How can they deteriorate?
@@giulioex125e7 The handbrake shoes are pressed against these plates with spring-loaded pins - if the plates rust (and they do), these pins can pull through their holes, and it's "goodbye handbrake" on that side.

@@mikes.garage Thank you very much! Your video is awesome!
hey man good work
Thank you!
When you pull the hub into the inner race of the bearing you have to use a plate of the size of the inner race (an old race is the best), otherwise it's super easy to destroy the bearing
could u clarify ? , doing job today
@@M54barii have a look at the bearing. The inner part is in two peaces. If you try to pull it like the guy in the film, the inner part will separate and if some dirt gets inside it'll get destroyed quickly.
Any tips on getting the axle back in? I can’t get mine in enough to catch it with the nut…..
Hi, excellent how-to. One question on the socket used for getting the nut off the axle: you mention 30mm socket, but my car has more edges than hex, and BMW part catalog says its 40mm. E46 320i, M54B22. So my question is what type and size of nut have you used? Thanks in advance!
Hi, I used 30mm socket. Sometimes aftermarket parts could have a different sizes. This is how my socket looks like: www.amazon.ca/dp/B01LZEGFON/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_LDhoEbTDBAHMY

Very helpful video, does the bearing HAVE to be replaced if I just need a new hub? Long story short one of the bolt holes for the lugs stripped. The wheel bearings on both sides of my 325i are fine, can I get away with just doing the hub bc the bolt holes stripped? Any help would be great
Thank you!
No, you don't need replace the bearing. Also you can press the hub back with the axle shaft, so you don't need bearing removal tool.

hi,
Im a fan. 2011 328i xDrive (e90), same process?
Im just a DIY. thx
Awesome tutorial video thankyou! But i have 1 question im hoping you can help me with. After installing the new bearing & then pressing on the hub ive noticed i have 'play' when rotating the hub. I've followed your video accurately & tightened everything correctly but there's still movement. I used my old hub. Feedback much appreciated!
Thank you for watching! I think you make a mistake when you press is wheel hub. You must put washer behind the bearing so washer should be smaller then a hole behind in a knuckle. You can fix this problem with tightening axle shaft to torque specs.
Thankyou for taking the time to reply. I will get to it today & hopefully fix the problem. From Adelaide South Australia 👍
@@Bond-uh6yj When you torque the axle to spec M24 250NM it will be okay, don't worry
Hello! Wich is the nut and screw's thread? I'd like to produce by my self the special tools. Thanks for your help
Hi, nut and bolt around 30 mm. I don't have that set anymore.
I did exactly everything that is shown in this video, and when I pressed in the hub, it had excessive play. Did I somehow break the new bearing? I tried again with the second bearing i had for the other side and it happened AGAIN!
No your bearing should be fine. You need to put smaller plate right behind the other side of the bearing and then press the hub in. You separate the bearing, if you wil do what I say it will come back.
@@mikes.garage when you torque the axle it will correct itself
@@vitalybrateev5548 this is true too 👍

if you don't have a puller, we used to get a chain and a spare tire. Throw the tire and pull it off, easy
This is an option 🙂
Is there a way of assembly ? Or we can put the bearing in any direction ? I never knew
No direction, you can install the bearing anyway.
How was the back plate replacement. Im trying to find a video on how to do it and cant find any usefull info do u mind telling me how to removed the back plate do i need to remove the bearing to replace the back plate?
You need to remove wheel hub, then parking brake shoes and then remove 10 mm bolts which hold the back plate. Bearing it self you don't need to remove, but when you will removing wheel hub half of the bearing will come out with hub. That's why better to replace bearing same time.
@@mikes.garage Okey thanks
The tool did you use for this is the same use to install/removes bushes, right? What's the name of the tool?
Yes, you can use it to remove/ install bushings to. The name: Front Wheel Drive Bearing Adapters Puller Press Replacement Installer Removal Tool Kit www.amazon.ca/dp/B01FLVOAZI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_yQHPEb07Z3P7Y
great video but please use axle stands correctly, Jack up the car, Place axle stands underneath your jacking points and lower car down onto them. The way you have it if that jack fails the control arms will slide the jack stands forward and out and your car is on the floor. Keep the videos coming as its brilliant but be safe
Thank you! I will place jack stands correctly next time 😉
Hi,
can you tell me the torque fort he nut oft he bearing?

@@mikes.garage thanks for the response, I found it, yes it's 3 inches. Here in Europe we work with metric system, i found also the exact size in centimetres. Once again thank you!
How do you get the half axle back in???
First insert in a wheel hub and then put in differential side. The same way how you remove it but in a back order.
I just replaced my rear wheel bearing and hub and now my back plate will not hold in the parking break system does anyone have any tips on what I should do?
You should replace the back plate before replacing hub, but now you can use small long bolts with washers and nuts to hold the spring on brake shoes.
Hi Mike I'm having my bearing changed soon and noticed you have the hub kit included, can I get away with just having the bearing replaced? Many thanks
Hi Paul, sure you can just replace the bearing. You just going to need to separate hub out of bearing completely, as you can see it at the end of this video.

As soon as you fill it, start to turn harder, this is correct position. Also there should be a place for locking ring. If it is not all the way in, locking ring will not be able to sit in place.

I have pressed the new bearing in, and pressed the hub as far as possible, but my hub is now kind of loose, I can wobble it.... I reused my old hub. Is the hub the problem? should I get a new one?
Are you sure that you put press plate right behind the bearing? The plate must be smaller then the hole and must sit on a bearing.

So i tried heating with a blow torch and then repeated the procedure, and no result.

Try to spray WD40 on it and try again. You may need a bigger puller. I had to bend one puller before and then I bought one size up puller to push the axle out.
