- Hamilton Girls' and Boys' High Kapa Haka group perform this powerful number at the 2021 Tainui Kapa Haka Competition held at Claudelands Arena. With this performance, the group qualified to represent the region at the next National Secondary Schools competition.
I was so into this performance that I didn't notice until several rewatches in that the girl in front lost one of her poi lol. Props for not letting that affect her at all and still killing it with one poi ball.
i remember when i first noticed it my heart dropped for her😭
Omg i watched this so many times and I hadn't noticed. That's how good she was 😍
This is the truly LIFE-CHANGING rabbit hole I never knew awaited me. I am absolutely BLOWN AWAY by how amazing this is. And I'm a Canadian that (unfortunately) doesn't even understand what is being sung.
I'm from NZ and even I don't know what is being said
They are high school students?!
Bloody amazing. I thought they were a national troupe. So good!
Fantastic to see this. I started the first Maori Culture group at the Girls High School in 1968 when I went there as a teacher. Its fabulous to see how professional school kapa haka groups are now.
Lovely! Just found this. Well done, Hamilton Girls' and Boys His School. Greetings from Redlands, California (the Greater Los Angeles area.) My sister is Whaea Mere Meha-Uelese, of Hamilton Girls High.
This performance gave me goosebumps, absolutely wonderful ❤️
Wowwww, the dancers literally look like they’re sparkling from a distance
Well dayum! I'm speechless!
Congratulations must be extended to our Kiwi cousins across the ditch - this performance is first class and very entertaining.
This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. Makes me wish i could be a part of something so deeply cultural with deep roots. Strong with unity and love.
It isn't necessary. You will be alright.
Well done, beautiful performance, love from America 💕
Thank you from my soul to you.
WONDERFUL!
So energetic ❤. Thank you for bringing love and power to me.
¡¡Que hermoso!!

❤🤍🖤 i love it😘👦🏾
Such beautiful display of a wonderful culture!
Very, very beautiful
Since I saw this video it has become an obsession, it never ceases to amaze me, everything is so incredible, the dances, the voices, I am in love. Could someone tell me what country, town, or island this culture belongs to? I would be very grateful.
Haka is from Polynesian Māori culture, the native people of New Zealand! The Tainui is a tribal confederation made up of various Māori tribes, and the Kapa Haka Festival is held once every two years to highlight the Haka performances of various schools :)
@@anotherdeaddave5749 Thank you so much for telling me! I would love to go to New Zealand sometime, what amazes me the most is that they are people who still go to school and still do spectacular dancing, although I don't know if it is correct to call it "dancing", I am a bit ignorant in those matters.
I belong to this Tribe.
@clarice gutmann

They're called Poi
They are used to hide meth in them.
im just thinking about how much practice it must of taken to avoid the poi tangling in the skirt
