Unpopular Opinion: Daniels still on the grid solely due to his personality
I heard somewhere that one of the main readons for visa to sponsor RB is Ric. Idk if thats true or not, but he is great for advertising for sure.
Ain’t an unpopular opinion anymore - any mention of Danny results in a swarm of hate after 2 races in the season .. sounds like everyone is taking the sentiment of Marko’s leadership
@@EredarLordJaraxxus2 races? Buddy, what are you smoking? The guy has been a racer since 2016. That's not 2 races. De Vries, Bearman and Lawson are rookies. Ricciardo is a veteran.
If you are gonna make excuses for his utter failure, at least don't embarass yourself
Arguably the only driver to retain a seat in F1 for his marketability and not his on track performance. It floors me some fans want him on the grid because he’s “funny and nice”

Unfortunately for Danny Ric, his difficulties are largely self-inflicted. If he'd stayed at Red Bull, his career might be on a very different trajectory now. Pride goeth before a fall.
To be fair, Daniel was heard before Max/Jos came to the team. It quickly became apparent that Red Bull would invest only in Max/Jos, and Daniel did not want to play second fiddle. Was it the right choice? Maybe not, but it was apparent that he would never become WC in Red Bull. Max is the Star-driver and that is predominantly because of Jos and his "cut-throat" way of handling business. That is also why it is laughable that people want Jos out, since He is the prime reason Max is where he is today.
Jumping Bean just can't make it, and to make matters worse, he keep getting bad luck...
You say that like it was all on him though, when Max did his to defence move and made Danny run into the back of him it was obvious there would be no racing at that team and they would sabotage him. It was either second fiddle or take the risk, it didnt pay off. But i respect it.
@@brianrasmussen2956 : Jos has served his purpose. Max is now a 3-time world champion and a veteran F1 driver - he has outgrown Jos and doesn't need him as his manager anymore.
Max should follow Lewis' example and sack his dad as his manager, telling Jos to "just be my dad" in future.

Liam Lawson needs to replace him asap.
SAR's time is running out, Williams ruined what confidence he had when he was given the rebuilt chassis. Lawson was impressive.
Danny is just slow now, simple as that. Yuki shows more pace and therefore more potential. Whatever spark that was there is gone and its time to get some new blood in the sport like Lawson, Bearman, Drugovich etc...

Hes slow in these cars, Riccardo is a incredibly fast driver but he needs to get the fuck out of F1 and do WEC or Indycar. If Horner had cheated the hybrid engine like Mercedes did back in 14 Retardo would have been a x2 or even x3 wdc before Max tookover.

Ricciardo used to be good before he left Red Bull to join Renault. Red Bull didn’t want him to leave, but Ricciardo didn’t want to be Verstappen’s number 2, preferring to be number 1 at Renault. His career went downhill from there, and now he’s desperate to be Verstappen’s number 2.
Braking his wrist like a rookie
Daniel simply just fcked up with deciding to stay around the F1 paddock after the embarrassment of having a team rather pay him tens of millions of dollars to NOT drive their car. plus putting a outright rookie, from the same county in the seat; harsh stuff. Had he made a deal with Zak for a Mclaren seat in INDYCAR before the 23 season, he'd be living a much better life at the moment. He's popular here in America. Sponsor money alone would have made it financially worth it. But also, indycar is much looser and laid-back than F1. He could have spent the entire 2023 season learning the ropes and only finishing inside the top 15 every race and he'd have gotten little push back from the media at all. So now the dude is already on the hot seat after 2 goddamn races. In a car that cant sniff a top 5 finish. Doesn't seem like it would be much fun

Ricciardo had two good years in the sport and people still think he's a top driver.
im not defending his current form, but from 2014-2020 (2015 he had terrible luck and 2019 i would say was his worst year during this period) he was a top driver. I think you should watch a few more seasons than just 2021.

As an F1 fan since the Senna era, I sadly must agree with just about everything presented here. I think Ric is a very good driver but was flattered by the strength and characteristics of the previous RB car. He relies on confidence to drive at a high level but that same confidence led him to make some bad career moves in pursuit of a WDC.
LOL. Confidence? From the moment he began to sell it like his move to Renault had nothing to do with Max, I knew it was over.
The 'can't adapt to the car' is Danny's biggest fault, you've just got to look back at the Drivers up until the mid 70's to see that they all drove anything that would give them a paycheck in those days.
McLaren and Amon won the first GT40 victory at Le Mans while active F1 Drivers, Jim Clark was tearing around in a Cortina in British Touring Car Races while he was a F1 Driver, Moss at the Mille Miglia, Alonso etc., etc.
The inability of Daniel to adapt to a different cars behaviour, is an admission that he shouldn't be where he is.
Most drivers fall off as they approach their mid 30s. That's what happened to Ricciardo. For crying out loud McLaren paid him £15 million to go away and signed a rookie in his place. Ricciardo was a great driver from 2013 to 2020 but he's clearly washed now. Guys that can still perform in their late 30s and early 40s like Hamilton and Alonso are the exception, not the rule

I agree. Ricciardo and Vettel's downfall in their mid 30's makes Hamilton's last year's 3rd place at the age of 38 even more impressive.
Yeah he can’t seem to handle the new style of car. Lewis struggles as well, but has so much pure talent, that he can make it work.

A few things in regards to Daniel that I’ve noticed since he left Red Bull. His teammates have never liked the same style of car that he does well with since he left Red Bull. Daniel was very successful at driving the style of car that Max likes and I’m guessing that’s probably what they gave him for the tire test at Silverstone last year and if I’m being honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if he could still jump behind the wheel of a max style car and do well with it that that’s what put him in contention. he’s driving now is not that aggressive in terms of set up and design success came from cars that were on the nose and truthfully, I think Daniel really shined when he drove next to Max because he had a similar enough style to be able to handle the car the way that Max likes it. I think the only way to know if Daniel still has what it takes would be to see him in the Red Bull alongside max and see how he does. Realistically, that car that he’s in now is not on the level of the Red Bull. Nor is it on the set up. One thing I have to say is it’s been seen in the past that when a good driver, it does not have a car that is set up to their liking they will not be successful. Are we saying Hamilton is washed because Mercedes have given him a car that doesn’t suit him at all, the reality is different drivers needed a different style of car. Daniel really should’ve stayed at Red Bull where he knew they were going to keep giving him the car in the style he liked, but he thought the grass was greener on the other side. And no I’m not saying that is the equivalent of Lewis Hamilton. I’m just pointing out that the car can make a huge difference to a driver success rate and has been a great example of that when Mercedes dropped the ball and started giving him bad cars. I think the only way to truly know if Daniel still has it would be to see him in a car that is set up in the style that he likes which would be the Red Bull. I said they saw something in him at that tire test in the Red Bull last year that made them say we need to put Daniel back in not to mention he media show pony a great distraction tool with all the chaos going on for them right now I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up trying to useas a way to shift the fans back into their favour and take some of the drama away

The call to swap with Daniel was common sense as Yuki was struggling to overtake and Daniel had softer tyres on. Daniel should’ve been ordered by the team to let Yuki back before the chequered flag after failing to achieve an overtake. But that’s not Daniel’s fault. Yuki was a dill to take out his over-the-top frustrations on Daniel. Yeah, that won’t get Yuki a drive with any other team. Yuki’s pretty quick, but he’s got the emotional regulation of a two year old, and that will never change.
Nah Yuki was in the wrong...he may have felt he was justified in the heat of the moment but as a pro driver you are a team player. Being a kamikaze definitely warranted being labeled a helmet.

With Jos heavily involved at Red Bull I think it was an understandable move. I think the team was always set to put more resources behind Max (although maybe they wouldn't have to the same extent had Daniel stayed). He also became one of the highest paid drivers on the grid at Renault. Wasn't it $55m for two seasons? I wish my career was full of bad decisions that got me eight-figure paydays.

It'd take them several years to even get close to the likes of Redbull, Ferrari and Mercedes. This is coming from an American. I would've loved to see them get in but I'll never understand all the people that think they'd be a "top team" because that just isn't true. And no Mario's time in F1 50+ years ago doesn't count as F1 experience. IndyCar is also vastly different than F1.

It was overbefore people were ever linking him to a Red Bull seat. MEdio needed their poster boy back so they tried to shove him down our throats even though that in a regular basis he is being outdriven by his teammate. Lawson did a much more memorable job in fewer races.
Daniel was getting crushed by Lando in McLaren,, especially in 2022 when he lost 20-2 in Qualifying to Lando and 16-5 on race day ..and yes you can say the car didn’t fit his driving style,,but all the great ones will find a way…Those Red Bulls were World Championship cars with a Midfield engine in it back when he drove for RB.. So they were able to still snatch wins a couple races a year on specific circuits…. and he was younger probably more fearless and ate slept and breathed F1,, now he’s got business ventures and bull shit outside the sport..So what you see today is a 30 something year old,, trying to find his mojo from his 20s and once you lose your mojo it’s all over
Is over. The highlight of Ricciardo's career was his stint at Red Bull when he exposed Vettel by regularly beating him. Even I thought he was promising at the time. Unfortunately, after that, it has pretty much been downhill since. At this point of his career, if he has trouble in beating Tsunoda, that says it all. He should just hang it up to avoid further embarrassing himself.
He didn’t expose anything about Vettel. Seb went on to have more career wins with Ferrari than Ricciardo in his entire career. He challenged for the title with Ferrari until he got burned out. What did Ricciardo do after Red Bull? Being embarrassed by Lando to get kicked out of McLaren and humiliated by Yuki now.

1) He exposed that Vettel is not that great which every sensible person knows except fanboys.
2) Ferrari was faster than Red Bull and Renault at that time so it's logical that Vettel had more wins. If he didn't he would compromise himself.
@@Loki-sk7bi You can only compare drivers' performance in the same car. In that context, Vettel was 100% exposed by Ricciardo in the Red Bull. The point is Vettel was overrated. He couldn't get Ferrari over the hump neither. He admitted it as such. I never said Ricciardo did well in other teams. As a matter of fact, I also said he turned out to be a disappointment. But, like I said he did prove Vettel was overrated in the same machinery.

I thought he was crazy to leave Red Bull when he did. Especially when RB really wanted him to stay. He'll likely never have a car like that again along with his aging skills
and back then he was even fighting his own instincts. I remember him saying how well Redbull, Marco and Horner had all treated him super well, and he felt idk it was against his nature to betray that. I can see how he'd want to leave back then - everyone could easily see that Bottas was just Hammy's wingman, and Im sure Ricciardo just couldn't be that for Max. I don't think it was wise to leave, I'd rather be in the same car somewhere in 2nd - 5th maybe and not way back there in another car.

after that year he beat Vettel he was seen as the successor for the crown when they would get the car right. he was a great wheel to wheel racer, with daring overtaking.. also great at snatching opportunities from SC's that led to pitstops for example cause he was very quick over a few laps on fresh tires. Also a great qualifier. the buzz died out long ago though.. were talking 8 years ago
Ricciardo is a one trick pony. He workled out in 2014, quicker than other drivers, that going long on the first stint on a hard tyre gives you a soft tyre advantage at the end. He used this trick many times and it worked. That was his trick. Now it is different.
You know, while he did hurt himself last year, I honestly think if by the middle of the season, he has not proven his worth that it’s only fair he gets released and Lawson gets his seat.
Daniel seems like the nicest guy on the grid, but I have always questioned his lack ruthlessness, a necessary quality to win at all costs.

Has to do with the production quality of the videos. Not so much because of the content. It's literally just bunch of F1 images slideshow with a voice over on a not so fantastic sounding microphone.

The only reason why Ricciardo was able to win in Monza, was because Norris was told to not overtake Ricciardo when they were driving in P1 & P2.
Besides that, if Ricciardo has a hard time in cars with a strong front-end, he is going to have a hard time in the seat next to Verstappen, not different how Perez is struggling from time to time...

Great video, I appreciate you making this, especially for all the checo fans. As everyone who loves Daniel Ricardo thinks that he’s still the greatest thing since sliced bread. I really like Daniel as a person but as a driver I agree with your assessment 100% he has had really hard time adapting to the new type of car and I don’t see how people keep saying he’s going to be the one taking over checo seat. I think they got put Liam back in there and to give checo one more year seeing how he does and rethink the whole line up for 2026. But who knows

this guy is one of the drivers whose success hugely depends on car performance and not their skills..I hope most of the people realised by now that Hamilton is also one of them
I think we are way to early in the season to count anyone out. I can see the case for ric maybe but Hamilton? No.
It was over four years ago. Netflix and the newbie fans who don't know crap about F1 revived his, ahem, career. But no minimally serious analyst considers him a current top driver.
Pretty sure this is his last season in the sport. There are so many up and comers - Lawson being the obvious choice to replace him, but also Iwasa and Hadjar - that if he is unable to get close to Yuki, then it's all over. His arrogant comments in the press recently insinuating that he is responsible for some kind of a turn around in team culture mask an obvious lack of confidence in his own ability to execute the way he used to. Assuming Perez doesn't self-sabotage and continues his current form, Daniel has nowhere to go.
Daniel is a great character and this is clearly why Red Bull brought him back into the fold. Even Jacques Villeneuve states this as a world champion. Dani was great in his early years but couldn't beat Max. After he left RB he lost his streak and age has gotten the better of him. I sadly think his time is done. Bar some podiums for Renault and a win for Mclaren, it's been pretty dier since leaving Red Bull.
It’s now or never. He needs to perform at Australia in a very very big way, or it’s over
Awaiting comments from DR fans, along the lines of:
It’s only been “2 races”
DR has been really unlucky
The car doesn’t suit him, it’s not his fault
Yuki sucks
DR had the best position finish for AT in 2023 clearly making him the better driver
DR had a long break
DR broke his hand
He was a really good driver 6 years ago so he must still be a good driver
He won in Monza with McLaren so he must be an amazing driver
And then the moment he has one good race (or Yuki has one bad one) the same fans will talk about how great DR is or how bad Yuki is. Just like how one good performance at Mexico (where the AT clearly had very strong pace) somehow makes up for the other 9 mediocre races, or just how his one win at Monza in the Mclaren somehow makes up for 2 full years of absolute disaster.
It may well be that the car doesn't suit him. It would possibly explain why he did wel testing in the Red Bull last year. The Renault suited his style and he did well. The McLaren and AT do not and he can't adapt.
But that just means he is not the top driver that teams want. They want drivers that can adapt to cars weaknesses. Lando could at McLaren, Max can and it looks like Yuki can as well. Even Alex Albon can with the Williams. Even Hülkenberg manages to squeeze qualifying laps out of a Haas.
@@tak8261that’s the power of the Daniel ricciardo’s brand, people want him to be there, he will probably keep having stinkers, but the moment he has a brilliant race it will put momentum back to his career for another few months.
Also Redbull is in a difficult spot, they have to decide between the safe choices of Perez or Yuki, who are ok in terms of marketing and performance wise are secure, and Daniel who sells a lot of cans when is on the Redbull overalls but will most likely fail performance wise.
So were gonna ignore the 50 second pitstop? Kind of a key detail there. Yes he did spin out himself to not really help matter but come now... lets not pretend he was the sole reason he did badly that weekend.

There must be some problem with the car. He said so in an interview. I hope he can fix it quickly and get points with Yuki.
When he was fast enough to win a championship he didn't have the car to do it unfortunately. Lovely guy and it's still early in the season but Lawson has that seat for 2025 so the pressure is on for both Daniel and Yuki.
Adaptability is so important. Compare to Alonso who changes his driving style to each cars characteristics
He is not what he used to be and now just being around F1 because of Netflix, nostalgia of what he was once and personality (smile) that attracts certain fans.
People were pissed at Yuki about what he did in the 1st race , but imagine being faster than your team mate and being told to let them by. Danny is all personality and less talent at this point in his career.
Right, now in the rankings, DR is ahead of him when Yuki was performing better.
He's on trouble, no doubt about it. He's out of favors and people are starting to question if he deserves a position on the grid. He's a really fun and entertaining person, but he needs to prove that he deserves a place on the grid over the many young drivers sitting on the sidelines hoping for their first shot.
IMO, they should've kept De Vries at least for the rest of 2023.
Although IMO Williams should've kept Sargeant for 2023 and instead sign De Vries, but that's another story

Doesn't help that this sport is savage. So many skilled drivers that will be happy to take Dan's seat. If he doesn't perform soon, he'll be gone at the end of the season, if not before.

I think people focus too much on his media popularity, and not enough on how much love and loyalty Christian Horner and Red Bull feel for him. He’s in play because Red Bull wants him in play, and they want him in play because they still have faith that he could be the other driver they need.
He was never the same after losing Monaco in 2016.

Ricciardo walking away from that red bull deal was really a questionable move. Wonder where we would be at if he stayed.
He went from a team with excellent aero and a poor engine, to the team that supplied that engine but also had poor aero. What did he expect to happen? To be fair, at the time Honda engines weren't all that great either, but still. How anyone could move from a top 3 team to a midfield team and expect to be fighting for a championship is way beyond me.
I want to see Danny do good, but so far this season (that being only 2 rounds in) it hasn’t exactly been promising. We saw last year at for example Mexico what Danny can do on his day, but those days need to be more frequent. Much more frequent. He was never a Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton, and i think most people know and understand that, but a driver at the very top nonetheless. I hope he can turn it around during this season, and, well, if he doesn’t, that might be the actual end of his F1 career sadly. At least as a driver.
As much as I like him as a person, Liam Lawson has way more potential than Daniel right now.
He had a great debut with Alpha almost getting points after being shunted and put to the back of the grid, he also qualified 4th in that car and yet people are writing him off already when his ridiculous luck has written off 6 of his 9 races, you say "he struggled to beat Tsunoda" while ignoring the context of each race, forced pits, damage, a lap penalty, 40 second pit etc do better.
RIcciardo still has it! Maybe he's failed to adapt but it's only been two races. Hopefully he'll prove eveyone wrong. Go, Daniel!! KE KE KE, RRAH RRAH!

Everybody, including me, wants Ricciardo to do well. He's like your beer-drinking buddy who happens to drive F1. But, he's just not been doing it lately. He's got a future in F1, but just not as a driver. He can be the expert commentator for TV broadcasts, or the front-man for some business associated with the sport. That would suit his personality. Another possibility would be to move to another branch of racing - maybe Indycar. But I would be surprised to see him on the F1 grid next year.
No, not everyone wants him to do well. His entire personality seems fake and fraudulent to me, it's all an act.
The only and yet crucial mistake he made was leaving RBR. With that move, he axed himself.

Be nice if F1 would go back to the old cars from before this ground effects era.. in more ways than just having ones that better suit Danny Ric.
DR's a lot like Kubica in such that I am among the many who never understood his appeal. He's a nice kid with a great smile - but that's it I'm afraid.
Now George Russell is following the same trajectory as DR. Great at a junior team, beats his WDC teammate when he gets promoted, etc.

People don't seem to see the stupid amount of money Ricciardo managed to get out of Renault and McLaren. And on top of that, they paid him millions to get rid of him! That man is a GENIUS! No other driver in the history of F1 managed to get paid that much for absolutely nothing in return.
Maybe the end of his driving career but id be mind blown is red bull (marketing geniuses) actually let him go. He is the most consistently marketable F1 driver regardless of position ok grid and is really good on camera.

Hmmm yeah Oscar is a great driver, but I reckon he'll stay at McLaren for a while. He's giving Lando a good run for his money. In also things smarter and will make better decisions that DR.
For the love .. give the guy a break and honestly examine things.. how well is your race going to go with a 40-second pit stop .. plus he went into the race with some car issues they knew about .. he drove his ass off to be 2 places behind his teammate in conga line behind Magnusson

Danny Is a brilliant ambassador and whilst the RedBull stable is being so dominant, it also becomes a negative as we humans seem to change our thoughts when someone wins too often...but Yuki and Danny are the more human, as opposed to business side..after all RedBull is a marketing vehicle for the brand and like with previous multi winners & teams the negatives can often hide the success..and history has shown this..all Danny has to do is drive a car around in circles get lots of views and clicks, take his $$$ as Max is their winner and if he trips up Checo will take the flag...
