I probably made that rifle. Look at the QC tag on the card it came with 😅 if it says ND that was me. I was one of the two armorers at Adams Arms. FYI we (Adams)went out of business last month, or at least they let everyone go. Investors pulled the plug. Piston system was great, all our 300aac regardless of barrel length ran pistol length drive rods. Wish I bought one when I had the chance. My guess is name/piston system will be bought and carried on my someone else. But it still sucks, we are all bummed and we were caught completely by surprise. Prayers, had a promising interview somewhere else last week at another manufacturer. I really enjoyed that job

I remember the days when we hunted with lever action, Shot guns, and bolts riffles. With calibers such as 30 30, 30 06, 308, 12 ga and or even black powder guns, . We wore whatever camo's we could find at the Army surplus store such as tiger stripe, woodland, or the goofy spanish crap no one wanted to be seen in. I remember painting my work boots green to use for hunting. We went to a family members farms or a friends farm to hunt and had to trade work for the rights to hunt there like stack hay or some other chores and were happy to do so as we laughed and enjoyed our friendships while talking smack. Our deer were not grown on game farms with special foods to make ridiculously huge unrealistic racks. My favorite times were hunting when i was dirt poor. That way it felt much better being able to supply food for the family when times were tough. Seemed like every meal had boar or deer involved. We walked everywhere. No four wheelers with trailers and deer processing devices were anywhere to be found. The only deer processing device we had was a buck119 and a few garbage bags and an old square body chevy that has a cb. DONT get me wrong I do like the cool new weapons and things to make life easier. But to me there was something lost in the days that hunting wasnt so advanced as it is today.. Even todays hunter sounds more like a golfer than a good ole boy... Yall have a great day

Christinsian Arms made the "carbon " barrel popular several years ago. They build fine sporting rifles, not plastic toy rifles...just saying.. Anyway, it's a small contour barrel with a carbon fiber wrap around.
So you have the advantage of weight reduction from the smaller contour (diameter) barrel. Yet the rigidity of a heavy contour (larger diameter) barrel.
All barrels when shot have an oscillating motion down the length of the barrel. Which affects accuracy. So, "target " rifles will generally have a larger or heavier contour barrel. Lightweight sporting rifles usually have a smaller contour/diameter barrel. Factory sporting rifles generally fall in the middle to satisfy all needs. They have a medium contour barrel (generally a number 3 contour).
In south Ga., for Hunting. You can easily use a number 4 or perhaps 5 contour barrels. Get a little better accuracy. On the other hand, in the high country of say Colorado. You want to save weight at 10,000 plus elevation. But you don't want to sacrifice accuracy. Shots there are easily out to 300 yards.
So, you go back to how to get a lightweight rifle and reduce the oscillation (whip) of a small contour barrel. Two choices.. 1. Flute a heavy contour barrel.. 2. Start with a small / light contour barrel. Then, wrap it in carbon fiber. Which is strong, lightweight, is not affected by heat or cold, and sudden temperature changes... it's perfect. The con.. cost, you can't do anything to it where the carbon fiber is. The pros, lightweight, rigid, and strong, consistent, hold up to changing conditions.
    😎👍

I always thought that the most practical use for a .300bk for your everyday John Doe is something like a Sig Rattler, 5.5 or 6 inch barrel, piston gun so it can take a folding brace, and that thing will fit in some extremely regular-degular, inconspicuous bags, and with some 110 or 120 gr ammo, you’ve got yourself a MEAN little PDW.
In regards to the muzzle brake, if you’re using a 9” or longer barrel? The cartridge has burned all of its powder, so you don’t get that huge dump of unburnt powder all at once. Basically, the muzzle brake on a 9” or longer .300bk doesn’t have that crazy concussion that a short barrel AR with a brake tends to have. It sounds obvious when you think about it, but when you haven’t tried it before, it’s pretty cool

You can shoot a 1000 yards with a AR. Gas piston has been around longer than direct impingement... very accurate. Direct impingement very accurate. The difference between them was to the cycle of operation. A gas piston is cleaner. But you have to keep the piston clean and functional. Which is not difficult. The AR 180 is the rifle Stiener built to replace the platform you have. Which is a gas piston system. However, the military had already approved the original platform and would not change. Then Colt started to produce the civilian version. Then everyone started "building " (assembling) AR style rifles. Then making an shutting down. Which lead to the battle of gas piston over direct impingement. Problem was the gas piston rifles were small off brands. When they closed up so went the parts.
    😎👍

    • @gadsdenjim8785
      @gadsdenjim8785 Před měsícem

The AR-18 / 180 was not done to “replace” the AR-15. It was done to be something that countries with lesser manufacturing capacity and less money could produce. Stamped and folded sheet steel versus aluminum forgings that require CNC machining to finish. It’s in NO WAY a superior “replacement.” Remember, a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. When you have a small piece of information your mind wants to fill in the gaps and you then misinform and bad info gets spread.

People misunderstand 300blk. Yes, it was requested by special operations to replace the MP5 by developing a round designed to be suppressed out of a short barrel AR. However, a 10.5 inch 300blk with 110 gr rounds will hit velocities approaching what 556 will do out of a 10.5 inch barrel, and with a much heavier bullet.
Now, I personally don't have a need to shoot beyond 200 yards, so for me 300blk is superior. I would probably only choose 556 if I was primarily engaging targets out to 200-400 yards.

I also have the Squirrel Daddy jig and the Harbor Freight 3" mini abrasive disc chopsaw for cutting down 5.56 cases. I have Lyman reloading dies for .300 B/O. I wanted to experiment with the caliber but kinda lost interest when reloading components became both scarce and very expensive along with the pistol brace ruling flip flopping back and forth by the week/day. I have 8", 9" and a 10" barrels. I already had a few 5.56 AR pistols built up that I had to keep dissembling and taking the parts to work and away from my house every time those b*stards changed their minds daily. If Big Daddy Trump wins in November I might dig out all that crap and start using it. My other ARs are all in 5.56 and 7.62 x 51 (.308 Win).

I find that the 300BO feels softer shooting than 5.56. From the videos I have seen on ballistic gel, 300BO doesn't cause as much damage as 5.56 because the velocity is so much less. Also, one of the hog hunting ranches that I know of will not allow subsonic 300BO rounds for hog hunting because they are not effective enough. Still, it is fun to shoot and I've been told it is very quiet with subsonic rounds and a suppressor.

Velocity doesn’t max out in 12” on those. The short barrel max velocity mythology with 300 blk only applies to subsonic, because you can load them to 1050 fps in the shortest barrels, and there’s no point in going faster for subsonic. 300 blk is just like any other gun: the velocity keeps increasing as the barrel gets longer; it’s just less fps per inch than a narrow caliber like 5.56.

I always thought .300 Black was the US response to 7.62x39. Similar shape. The military had been looking for a round that would have similar knock down and kinetic power like that of the AK.
Pretty sure the story was in Iraq episode 2 Saga 1, the 5.56 was penetrating cover, vehicles and took more rounds for a kill. 7.62x39 removes chunks of matter.
